The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 976: Chapter 976: Bringing Dan-ge’er to Hug the 999-Gold Backer

The Empress Dowager Wang returned to the palace, and with a head full of thoughts she wanted to vent, she sent for Palace Attendants to bring Song Ci over, claiming that she missed her and wanted to have a chat, and to bring along her grandson, too.

Such glory, no other family had; the principle of tightly holding on to connections with great wealth and power was paramount. Song Ci tidied herself up and went to the palace with her son Dan.

After going through greetings and bows, as it had been two or three months since the two old friends last met, Song Ci personally held Dan in her arms to greet the Empress Dowager.

One’s own body can be understood by oneself; she was old, it was the age of needing a cane. Who knows how long one can live? Since Dan was raised by her side, she definitely wanted to find more powerful connections for him.

The Empress Dowager was the first such powerful connection.

Indeed, Song Ci believed that the Empress Dowager Wang, living in a pampered environment, with the Imperial Physician inquiring about her well-being multiple times a day, was surely going to live longer than herself. Allowing Dan to create more of a presence in her proximity would ensure that when she passed, the child would not be left unprotected.

Song Ci’s love for her grandson was deeply strategic.

And here she was, holding her son, using her high-pitched voice to greet and inquire after Empress Dowager Wang, making her cackle with laughter.

”Let me have a good look,” the Empress Dowager Wang laughed as she beckoned.

Song Ci walked in front of the phoenix throne and directly placed the child in her embrace.

Empress Dowager Wang: ”...”

Palace Attendants: ”...”

So bold!

You’re far too direct.

”The longer you look, the more bragging rights he’ll have when he’s older.”

The Empress Dowager Wang laughed and asked, ”What do you mean by that?”

Song Ci said, ”Just think about it, this little boy hasn’t been alive very long, yet here he is being embraced by the world’s most noble Empress Dowager, receiving her blessings—wouldn’t he brag about it for a lifetime?”

The Empress Dowager Wang laughed even more heartily, looked down at the child, and saw his refined features, with a rosy red mouth and a fair complexion. His eyes were lively, so she praised, ”This boy is quite well-made.”

”Exactly, and no wonder, considering who raised him.” Song Ci boasted, head held high, ”I, as his grandmother, take him out to bask in the sun every day, hence he has developed such a good complexion.”

”Look at you, so pleased with yourself.” The Empress Dowager Wang chided her, and then said to Lian Qiao, ”Go and fetch the prepared gift for the boy.”

Lian Qiao chuckled, clapped her hands twice lightly, and a Palace Maid brought over a tray, upon which lay a gold and jade necklace, very petite and exquisite.

Song Ci accepted the child, allowing the Empress Dowager Wang to adorn Dan with the necklace, and said with a smile, ”Thank you for Empress Dowager’s gift. Later we’ll have the boy kowtow to you for it.”

At that moment, Eunuch Hai approached with a smile and reported, ”To report to the Empress Dowager, the Emperor has heard that Madam Song has brought the sixth young lord into the palace, and has sent Eunuch Zhou to bring the boy over for a meeting.”

”Let Eunuch Zhou approach.”

Eunuch Zhou quickly arrived, knelt on the ground to greet, and then, with a beaming face, explained the situation.

”Is the Emperor discussing matters with Prime Minister Song?”

Eunuch Zhou replied, ”Responding to the Empress Dowager, the Emperor and Prime Minister Song are currently discussing matters in the Imperial Study. Upon hearing that Madam Song brought the sixth young lord into the palace, he sent this servant to request their presence.”

The Empress Dowager Wang said, ”Since the Emperor wishes to see him, then go ahead, Lian Qiao, you accompany this Nanny to take the boy over, don’t let him get frightened, considering it’s unfamiliar territory.”

This was a sign of great care.

Lian Qiao acknowledged the request with a smile.

Song Ci instructed Madam Deng to carry Dan, and also directed Palace Nanny to join them. This was to prevent Madam Deng from becoming flustered on her first entrance into the palace and potentially making a mistake before the Emperor, which would be unacceptable.
