The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 956: Chapter 956: The Eyes of the People Are Clear as Snow

Song Ci insults people indirectly, without using vulgar words as a courtesy; if she stops being indirect, it means she feels there’s no need anymore.

Just like now.

Even the most ignorant commoners could tell that this Old Madam was berating that idler.

”Hey, are you the Prime Minister’s Mansion Old Madam? Is this how you insult people?” The idler grinned: ”Indeed, the Old Madam of the Prime Minister’s family, which wields power over the entire court, has such a posture that we lowly folk cannot compare.”

”Oh, you can recognize this old body, clearly your eyes aren’t blind. Since you know this old body is the Imperial Decree’s Old Madam of the Prime Minister’s family, why don’t you, a mere commoner, bow or kneel before this old body? Do you think the Imperial Decree granted by the Emperor is unworthy of this old body, or do you look down on the Song Minister’s Mansion?”

Song Ci’s smile appeared innocent, but her words were bloodless yet deadly.

Who would dare to admit to that?

The idler started getting a bit flustered, finding that these nobles, though supposedly maintaining their dignity, wouldn’t engage in petty arguments with them, correct?

Could he have encountered a fake noble?

”I, I didn’t say that, you can’t wrongly accuse me.” The idler stammered: ”I’m just speaking the truth. Is speaking the truth not allowed?”

”No one said it’s not allowed, but you claimed that the Prime Minister’s Mansion’s charitable acts are just for show, to gain fame?” Song Ci looked around, pointed at a disheveled beggar, and beckoned.

The beggar hesitated for a moment, then timidly approached.

”You also received buns and roasted pork, right? How was it, tasty? Were the buns well-made?”

The beggar quickly nodded: ”Delicious, it’s so delicious.”

Song Ci pointed at a few more people: ”What do you say?”

”Old Madam, I’ve never eaten such tasty buns, and they’re filled with meat.” Someone knelt down and bowed to Song Ci: ”Thank you, Old Madam.”

”Me too.”

”Me too.”

Many people knelt down and bowed.

Song Ci had them all stand up, then she looked at the idler and said: ”Facts speak louder than arguments. Whether the Prime Minister’s Mansion is just putting on a show is evident, because the commoners’ eyes are sharp. Oh, you better not say they were bribed by the Mansion to praise us, otherwise this old body will say you were instructed by someone to deliberately tarnish our Mansion’s reputation.”

”I, I...”

”Actually, even if it is merely for fame, this old body believes these commoners would welcome more such fame-seeking acts, after all, who wouldn’t be happy to have food?”

”True, we would love that.” Someone shouted: ”You troublemaker, better get lost quickly.”

The idler, extremely irritated, said: ”You all say gentlemen do not eat food given with contempt, aren’t you too spineless?”

A skinny woman stood up from the ground, spat, and said: ”Spine? Can spine fill our bellies? This humble woman fled famine this year. There was drought in my hometown, and while coming here, a child starved to death on the road. Now, you want me to have spine? Bah, can spine bring my child back? Sob, sob.”

”That’s right, there was a flood in my hometown too, and many died.”

”And me.”

Song Ci raised her hand slightly, looked at the idler with a smirk and said: ”They are truly refugees in need of help, what about you? I see you’re plump with a gluttonous look, speaking elegantly, are you truly a refugee who can’t find food? Probably you were indeed instructed by someone to purposely make trouble, weren’t you?”

The idler panicked, angrily said: ”I can’t fight against you nobles, isn’t it alright if I leave?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he slipped into the crowd, such behavior deserves serious contemplation.
