The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 964: Chapter 964: I’m Not That Ruthless!

”Madam, Young Master Shang has sent someone over with a gift.” Chun Fen walked in holding a list of presents to report.

Song Ci put down the rattle in her hand, stopping the nanny’s attempt to carry Dan off. ”Just let him lie here, looking at a list won’t take much effort.”

Madam Deng responded with a smile, standing aside and watching the child.

Song Ci took the gift list that Chun Fen handed over and asked, ”Who came?”

Chun Fen replied, ”It’s a maid, said to be Mrs. Shang’s steward. She’s having tea in the gatehouse now.”

The Song Mansion is the Prime Minister’s Mansion, not everyone is qualified to enter or see the masters within the second gate, especially not someone from mere merchant family lineage. Let’s not mention that it’s just a steward maid who came; even if Shang Mei Niang herself had come, she might not have been allowed past the second gate.

There’s no helping it, the hierarchy is just that strict. Otherwise, why would some merchants rather part with a family fortune to send their children onto the path of the imperial exam?

It’s said that Mrs. Jiang was able to marry into the Song Family only because the Song Family was not prominent at the time. Otherwise, she might not have had the chance. Of course, Song Zhicheng himself had set his heart on her from the beginning.

Song Ci looked at the long gift list in her hand, skimmed it, and handed it to Nanny Gong, saying, ”Check if there’s anything against regulations, pick a few and keep them, the rest send back, just a simple effort.”

Nanny Gong took it, quickly looked through it, and said, ”This merchant knows his boundaries, didn’t send nourishing ingredients or herbs, mostly antiques, paintings, jewelry, and the like. Merchants do their business, I hear there are also sea ships. The gifts sent must be good things. Aren’t you going to take a look?”

”Tsk, saying that in front of the child makes me sound like a miser. Don’t corrupt the child.” Song Ci glared at her, picked up Dan, and said, ”But, our little Dan is a good child, he should learn to recognize treasures from a young age. Go pick some things that are pretty and fun, bring them so Dan can take a look.”

Everyone smiled softly.

Nanny Gong also pursed her lips in a smile, went personally to select, while someone was sent to talk to that steward maid.

In no time, Nanny Gong led in several sturdy maids carrying precious items, having them set out one by one, like a small exhibition.

”Good little Dan, let’s see how your Nanny Gong’s taste is.” Song Ci carrying the child got down from the Arhat bed, went over to the items, and took a look.

There was a multicolored crystal tree as long as an arm, and a table screen with double-sided embroidery of a hundred butterflies amidst flowers, with clever use of colors and skillful embroidery, truly outstanding.

Besides that, there were also paintings by renowned artists and a set of exquisite gold-thread head ornaments, but, what was this?

Song Ci put Dan in Madam Deng’s arms, picked up that last object. Was it a cane?

She looked carefully at the cane, made of sandalwood, engraved with exquisite pine and crane motifs, bearing a good meaning, but Song Ci’s expression grew increasingly serious.

She weighed the cane, tried the feel of it, and even walked a few steps with it, her mood wasn’t very happy, she turned her head with a face full of grievance to look at Nanny Gong.

”Nanny Gong, have I really reached the age where I need something like this?”

Wah, she wanted to cry, inwardly feeling she’s still a young girl, but reality requires her to use a cane like an elderly person.

What a gift, it’s all here to break her heart, suddenly it’s no longer pleasing.

”Take it away, it’s annoying to look at.” Song Ci wanted to throw the cane back into Nanny Gong’s hands.

Nanny Gong casually said, ”You once mentioned, every time you want to smack Old Master, there’s no handy object. If there were a cane, it would be quite good, you could just swing it over.”

Song Ci: ”???”

You’ve imagined things, I’m not that ferocious!
