The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 992: Chapter 992: No Chance of Saving Face Anymore

Song Ci was also taken aback by Madam Ji’s ’straightforwardness.’

So, not only did you want to snatch a second daughter-in-law, but you also want to promote your own daughter too.

Song Ci’s gaze fell on the two Miss Ji’s; one had a round and jade-like face, a cherry-like mouth, the kind of blessed face many elderly believed would bring prosperity to her husband and sons. The other was slender, with almond-shaped eyes, but her cheekbones were quite high, showing a touch of meanness, despite her face being filled with smiles towards Song Ci.

Everyone was curious about how Song Ci would react, whether she would, given her temper, directly retort.

Princess Anping was somewhat annoyed; just based on those two willow-like figures, they dared to consider matching with a boy from the Song Family?

Just as she was about to speak, Song Ci smiled and said, ”Madam Ji is truly generous, willing to let such beautiful young girls be my maid.”

Madam Ji’s smile froze: ”No, it’s not...”

”But even if you are willing, I dare not. Which family would dare to treat a noble lady with a clean reputation as a maid? No matter how short-staffed one is, they wouldn’t. So, you should stop saying things like this in the future. The young ladies are precious and delicate, and having them serve me, an old lady, as maids would be a waste of their talents. I’ll just accept your kindness.”

Everyone present understood that Song Ci, by offering such a way out, was already giving face; ordinarily, one should follow the line and not further disgrace oneself.

But they underestimated the thick skin of Madam Ji, who, still smiling, said, ”Not as a maid, then how about as a granddaughter-in-law?”

Everyone: ”...”

Wow, the level of shamelessness!

Princess Consort Ji’s face turned pale, and she scolded, ”Enough, stop this at once, even joking should have limits, don’t make Old Madam Song embarrassed.”

No, I’m not embarrassed, facing you all I’ll never be embarrassed!

Song Ci said, ”Dowager, please don’t frighten these young ones, they just need to be taught slowly if they don’t understand. Besides, what’s there for me to be embarrassed about? At my age, haven’t I seen enough of such forced sales? It’s all the same principle, living openly, and it just passes by.”

Princess Consort Ji thought, what kind of openness, you’re just insulting people in a roundabout way without using foul language.

At this point, there was no way to save face, might as well break it directly.

”You are indeed a sensible person, haven’t you mentioned that your grandson hasn’t been engaged yet? If any young lady here catches his eye, shall I arrange a match?” Princess Consort Ji said with her chest out.

Princess Anping playfully said, ”Lady, what you’re saying made all these young ladies’ faces redden like shrimp. If they all shy away and run off, leaving no one to guess a few beautiful lanterns for me, I won’t agree.”

Song Ci glanced around, indeed, after what Princess Consort Ji said, all the young ladies’ faces turned red.

”A grown man should marry, a grown woman should wed, it’s bound to happen, what’s there to be shy about? The Dowager can speak straightforwardly.” Princess Consort Ji stared at Song Ci, with a stubborn determination.

There’s nothing like someone who has no shame!

Song Ci chuckled and said, ”It’s said marriage is a big matter, determined by the parents’ will. As a grandmother, why should I meddle in my grandchildren’s affairs? Their parents will handle the marriages of these few boys. But, if you must ask me, even if I fancy someone, it doesn’t count, it’s up to the boys to fancy. A harmonious couple must find each other agreeable.”

Isn’t this equivalent to saying nothing?

Song Ci then gestured vaguely and said, ”Every young lady here is wonderful, all brought up carefully by the Madams, even if I fancy them, doesn’t mean I can take them. As the saying goes, ’a family with a daughter is chased by a hundred suitors’, we, as the groom’s family, can only be one among the hundred. If we wish to seek a girl’s hand, we must sincerely; this depends on the boys’ abilities.”
