The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 97: Chapter 97 I, Song Ci, am the older sister

The more Song Ci thought about it, the more convinced she was that her suspicions might be right. Otherwise, how could a family face misfortune, especially someone like Song Zhiyuan, the Prime Minister? The most likely reason for trouble would be the Emperor’s suspicion, involvement in the succession struggle, or rebellion.

If Song Ruqi really became a Prince Consort in the future establishment of the Crown Prince, could Song Zhiyuan remain unbiased? Could he not help his son-in-law? If the son-in-law becomes the Crown Prince, it would be fine, but if not, while he remains in a high position, could the Crown Prince trust him?

What a joke, not guarding against you overthrowing this Crown Prince and supporting someone else? That would be foolish.

”No, you must call the eldest son to my courtyard to talk. I need to remind him,” Song Ci said, looking at Nanny Gong.

Nanny Gong, seeing her solemn expression, said, ”Are you worried that the Prime Minister might be confused for a moment? The Prime Minister, after all, is the Cabinet Minister of the current dynasty, he should have a plan in mind.”

”It’s not that I doubt his ability. To reach this position at such a young age, it takes some intelligence and skills. But Nanny Gong, when someone has been progressing smoothly for years, it’s inevitable to feel complacent. I always need to ask him what he’s thinking. After all, the whole family is here,” Song Ci said with a bitter smile. ”In fact, being in a high position is like walking on thin ice; it’s cold at the top.”

Moreover, she had made a deal with the original owner. If things didn’t go well, how could she return to the modern age in the future? Although she couldn’t fully trust that old lady’s words, at the very least, there’s a pie in front of her. Being able to smell it would be nice.

Nanny Gong said, ”You’re absolutely right.”

”Madam, Madam, a servant has reported that Madam Wei has already entered the mansion and is near the second gate,” Hong Zao came in and bowed.

”Ah, I forgot this old lady was coming; quickly, assist me in changing clothes,” Song Ci glanced down at her particularly comfortable but unsuitable attire for receiving guests.

Nanny Gong helped her up and walked into the inner room.

...

The Grand Madam was accompanying Madam Wei, walking toward Chunhui Hall, chatting while observing a girl about seventeen or eighteen years old who was supporting her.

The girl was dignified and beautiful, with a graceful figure and a pair of extraordinarily clear apricot eyes, though there seemed to be a faint, inerasable worry between her brows.

Earlier, upon meeting for the first time, Madam Wei introduced her as an orphan of her maternal family’s cousin, named Wang Qiuman, whom she took in last winter and who just finished her mourning period this year.

Madam Wei, being a shrewd elder, noticed the Grand Madam’s gaze, so she laughed and patted the girl’s hand beside her, saying, ”This child, Man’er, is very filial. When I said I wanted to visit my old sister, feeling too lonely, and with the arms of an old person being thin, I asked her to accompany me, and she supported me as we came.”

Hearing the praise, Wang Qiuman only gave a shy smile and lowered her head.

”Being brought up by the Grand Madam herself, she must be very good,” the Grand Madam praised with a smile.

Madam Wei sighed, ”This child and I are fatefully connected, so I naturally have to put in every effort.”

While speaking, they arrived at Chunhui Hall.

Some maid reported into the main hall, got permission, and lifted the curtain to let Madam Wei and her party enter the room.

”Old sister, I’m here to bother you,” Madam Wei laughed heartily.

Song Ci was sitting on the Taishi Chair. Upon hearing someone call her ”old sister,” she shivered involuntarily.

Just imagine, what would it feel like for an old lady who could be your grandmother to call you ”old sister”?

Song Ci silently repeated in her heart a hundred times: I am an old lady, then smiled warmly, raising her hand, ”I have waited for you, old lady, for a long time. Hong You, bring tea, find a seat.”
