The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Female Doctor Lin Qing

Madam Gu is somewhat jealous of her sister-in-law, as men in the Great Qing often have many wives and concubines, even the Duke Zhongyong has two concubines and maidservants, yet Gu Xiangyi does not.

This sister-in-law has been married for nearly twenty years, and her husband, Song Zhiyuan, hasn’t taken a single concubine. Even when she was pregnant and gave birth, he didn’t bring in a maidservant to serve him in bed.

In the past, it was understandable that Song Zhiyuan, with no power or influence, wouldn’t dare to take concubines because of the power of the Duke Zhongyong Mansion. But later, as Song Zhiyuan’s position grew, he remained consistent.

Now, having risen to the high rank of Prime Minister’s Mansion, he still remains devoted to Gu Xiangyi alone. How could that not make others jealous?

Not only is Madam Gu herself envious, but many women in the capital are jealous of her as well.

But jealousy aside, from a perspective of interest, they are pleased with the arrangement. After all, with Song Zhiyuan not having other women compete for favor, Gu Xiangyi’s status isn’t threatened, nor is there a threat to the familial ties with the Duke Zhongyong Mansion. Even if there were other women, they might not affect her status, but the more people there are, the more problems arise, right?

Therefore, if Song Zhiyuan truly had such thoughts, it would be better for Gu Xiangyi to straightforwardly elevate a maidservant herself, holding her life contract, and thus the maid couldn’t cause any trouble.

”Dear sister-in-law, it’s not that I want to sow discord between you and your husband, I’m just afraid you might get stuck in a stubborn point and give those vulgar women the opportunity. If you bring someone in yourself, you’ll know their background and be able to control them.” Madam Gu advised earnestly.

Madam Song smiled: ”I know you mean well, but the Prime Minister really doesn’t want it, I even suggested a few days ago for Furong to serve him, but he refused.”

Seeing this, Madam Gu didn’t say much more, ”You’re about to become a grandmother yourself, just keep it in mind.”

Madam Song nodded.

”Madam Fang, please go and invite Doctor Lin here to talk.”

Madam Fang responded with a smile and left.

Shortly after, Madam Fang led in a slender woman in her late twenties, dressed in clothes of delicate silk color.

She had a graceful face, her hair braided and coiled up, adorned with a jade comb and two simple pearl silver hairpins, her eyes like water, clear and shining.

This was the female doctor, Lin Jing.

Lin Qing gracefully bowed to Madam Song and the others, her voice crisp, her manners neither servile nor supercilious.

”Divine Doctor Lin, please sit and have some tea.” Madam Song smiled as she called for tea to be served.

Lin Qing sat on a nearby stool and said: ”I wouldn’t dare call myself a Divine Doctor; Madam can just call me Doctor Lin or by my name.”

”Doctor Lin.” Madam Song readily adapted, and said: ”I suppose my sister-in-law has already told you what the duties of a house doctor in our mansion are? We already have a physician, but for us women, there are always certain things inconvenient to explain to a male doctor. The main reason we invited you is to take care of our Old Madam’s health. I heard Doctor Lin is also excellent at medicinal diets?”

Lin Qing laughed and said: ”I wouldn’t say excellent, since learning pharmacology, I’ve been able to prepare medicinal diets. Serving the Old Madam wouldn’t be an issue, but in your prestigious mansion, I would only serve for three years. If there are any changes, I will notify you in advance. If Madam agrees with my conditions, I will do my utmost to care for your Old Madam.”

”Of course.” Madam Song sipped her tea with a smile, paused a moment, and said, ”Doctor Lin, since the birth of my son, I’ve not conceived again in thirteen years. In your opinion, is there any chance I could become pregnant again at my age?”
