The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Is this my arch-enemy?

Lin Qing was arranged to live in the small wooden and bamboo pavilion not far from Chunhui Hall. Aside from her own maid named Sang’er, Madam Song had also assigned two more maidservants to help her.

Initially, Madam Song intended to assign two more maids to attend to her, but Lin Qing preferred solitude and didn’t like having too many people around. Since she was already used to having only Sang’er by her side, she refused.

Lin Qing’s luggage was not much, with only a few garments. Apart from a medicine chest, there were only a few precious medical books, making her belongings quite minimalistic.

While Sang’er was arranging the luggage, Lin Qing sat on the Arhat bed by the window, resting her chin on her hand, daydreaming as she gazed at the green bamboo outside.

”Master, would you like to rest for a while?” Sang’er walked over and asked respectfully.

Lin Qing turned her head with a smile and said, ”No need, fetch me the medical book I was reading during the day, so I can continue reading. Then you can take a rest. When the Madam returns, we still have to go pay our respects.”

Sang’er replied, ”I’m not tired; I’ll make some tea for you.”

Lin Qing patted her head, ”Good girl, go rest.”

Sang’er nodded, turned, and left, returning shortly with a tray holding some clear tea and a plate of small snacks. She placed the tea and snacks on the small table by the bed, then retrieved the medical book and handed it to Lin Qing before sitting by her feet, leaning against the Arhat bed and dozing off with her head tilted.

Lin Qing, seeing this, was somewhat speechless, yet she didn’t tell her to leave. She simply stroked her hair and continued reading the medical book.

...

Madam Song, after seeing off her sister-in-law, looked at the prescription in her hand, pursed her lips slightly, and handed it to Nanny Fang.

”Nanny Fang, you should personally fetch the medicine and prepare it yourself.”

Nanny Fang took it and said, ”Madam, do you really want to use this prescription?”

Previously, in hopes of having another child, she tried many prescriptions, but to no avail. If this one doesn’t work either, wouldn’t it be another disappointment?

Madam Song nodded, ”There’s no harm in trying. They are all formulas for nourishing the body; they won’t cause harm. Doctor Lin also provided some medicinal dietary recipes to try later.”

”I’m just afraid...”

”I know what you mean; you fear it will all be in vain again. But it doesn’t matter if it’s useless; these years have already passed by. If it works, it’s an unexpected joy. Don’t you think so, Nanny?”

Nanny Fang smiled, ”Indeed, the old servant is not as understanding as Madam.”

Madam Song sighed lightly, ”Understanding? It’s just getting accustomed to disappointment over time.” She then changed the topic, saying, ”Go make some preparations; the Madam should be returning to the house soon.”

Nanny Fang curtseyed and left to make arrangements.

Meanwhile, Song Ci had just come out of a clothing shop and was about to take her granddaughters home when someone called out to her.

”Old sister, it really is you.”

Song Ci turned her head, and her maids stepped aside. An elderly lady, dressed in indigo clothes, wearing a golden hairpin, and a jade bead necklace, supportingly held a maid’s hand, smiled, and looked at her.

Another one she didn’t recognize.

Song Ci turned to look at Nanny Gong, who was ready to nudge her. But before that, Song Ci asked, ”Is this an unfriendly rival or a good acquaintance?”

Nanny Gong smiled gently and replied softly, ”A good acquaintance, the former Madam of the Minister of Public Works’ household.”

Relieved by the answer, Song Ci smiled broadly as she stepped forward, ”Old sister, isn’t it just me? What a coincidence! Are you in good health?”

Madam Wei: ”...”

Why does this greeting sound so oddly peculiar?
