The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Doubts Arise, Teaching Sun Again

Madam Wei stepped forward, holding both of Song Ci’s hands, and tremblingly bent her knees.

”Old Sister, your illness really scared me to death. Now that I know you’re well, I truly had two big bowls of white noodles to thank the Bodhisattva for her blessing.”

Song Ci thought, what is there to thank? Your Old Sister has already gone to serve the Buddha in the Western Heaven.

”It was all a false alarm. You are considerate.” Song Ci smiled and said, ”I also thought I was surely going to die, with one foot already past the gates of hell, and it seemed like someone called me back, and I just woke up.”

Hearing this in broad daylight, Madam Wei felt a chill over her body and pulled a corner of her mouth, saying, ”It seems the Old Sister is blessed with thick fortune. In my opinion, it’s because you can’t bear to leave Yuer and the others, and you need to see him married with children.”

”Hmm.”

Seeing her lack of interest, Madam Wei said, ”Old Sister, could it be you’re still angry with me? I didn’t know that young Lady Zheng was so shameless. I was also deceived by her; it was not my intention to harm Yu’er. You know I’ve always treated Yu’er like my own son, how could I harm him?”

Aha, the two of them have an untold story?

Song Ci pretended to be magnanimous and said, ”Let’s not talk about past matters.”

”Yes, yes, Old Sister. I now have my eyes wide open to find a good girl for Yuer. What do you think about meeting her?” Madam Wei tentatively asked.

Meeting, does that mean matchmaking?

Hearing this, did she previously introduce a girl to her family’s fourth son, and then it fell through?

Song Ci searched her memories and it seemed there was such a thing, and they were quite unhappy at the time.

”It really must be a good one. Next month my eldest daughter-in-law is having a birthday, why not bring her over for the celebration?” Song Ci said.

Hearing this, Madam Wei’s eyes curved with a smile, ”That would be fine; I’ll be waiting for the invitation.”

Song Ci nodded with a smile, exchanged some pleasantries, and bid farewell to Madam Wei, then held onto Nanny Gong’s hand as she walked toward the carriage.

”Nanny Gong, what is the matter with that young Lady Zheng Madam Wei mentioned? I can’t quite recall.”

Nanny Gong gave her a sidelong glance and said, ”Has Madam forgotten? That young Lady Zheng is the niece of the Junior Minister of the Guanglu Temple, Zhong Quanzhou’s wife. Madam Wei had met her and inquired about her character, intending to match her with the Fourth Master. Madam was also satisfied with the girl but unexpectedly, that young Lady Zheng had long had an affair and was pregnant by Zhong’s eldest son, and so...”

Song Ci was shocked — such a dramatic twist.

Nanny Gong looked at her and continued, ”When Madam heard about this, she was angry with Madam Wei and stopped talking to her for some time. I thought you were still angry with her and wouldn’t even acknowledge her today.”

Song Ci chuckled, ”People always have times when they misjudge others, and since nothing came of it, why let it cause a lifetime of estrangement between two families?”

”Madam is generous.” Nanny Gong complimented, but looked deeply at Song Ci, her gaze heavy.

Song Ci boarded the carriage, looked at her two granddaughters not far away, and waved, ”Come sit with me. Zhou’er can sit at the back.”

Song Ruqi and the others were somewhat surprised, but they did not object and followed her into the carriage.

Song Ci retrieved a small box from a low cabinet inside the carriage and handed it to Song Ruwei.

Song Ruwei was taken aback, opened it, and was astonished to find a hairpin inside: ”Grandmother, what is this?”

”Keep it.” Song Ci looked at her and with a smile said, ”This hairpin, you keep it, as a reminder to yourself. Little girl, true grace doesn’t always require magnanimity to show it. You liked this hairpin a lot, but you let it go gracefully to earn the name of helping others. In the future, if someone takes a liking to your husband and wants to share him with you, will you generously help them as well?”

Song Ruwei’s face turned pale.
