The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Song Ci’s Disappointment

Song Ci had mixed in the entertainment circle before, so she knew well about struggles. Zhao Mingyao had intentionally wanted to compete with her granddaughters for the hairpin, trying to make it difficult for them.

She wasn’t foolish and didn’t directly snatch it back. Firstly, because of her status, and secondly, if an old senior stepped in for kids’ disputes, it would spread out and be a disgrace to the Prime Minister’s Mansion.

However, she couldn’t just let Zhao Mingyao take it away either. Otherwise, in the future, should the Prime Minister’s daughters let others have their way everywhere? So, she skillfully used the rules of etiquette to dig a pit and lure Zhao Mingyao into jumping in.

With so many people here, you just mentioned your mother’s understanding of rules and etiquette, didn’t you? I’m holding you in such high regard, so if you insist on stealing, it will only show that you and your mother lack manners and respect for rules. Let’s see if you and your mother care about your reputation.

Zhao Mingyao was infuriated but couldn’t openly argue against Song Ci’s words. She was brash but not foolish; agreeing with Song Ci would imply that the etiquette and manners she and her mother upheld were inadequate.

But this didn’t mean she would let the little brat have it so easily. She sarcastically said, ”A gentleman does not seize what others like. Of course, I understand this. The young ladies of your residence are indeed fortunate, with their great-grandmother doting on them, even helping with buying a little trinket.”

”Naturally, I do dote on my granddaughters. Doesn’t Mingyang Bo’s great-grandmother dote on the County Lord?” Song Ci chuckled, acting as if she hadn’t noticed the sarcasm.

Zhao Mingyao’s face turned somewhat unpleasant. Her grandmother only doted on those born out of wedlock; how could she spare any affection for her, a mere girl? Even her several half-sisters could receive some favors.

Now, Song Ci was deliberately poking at the thorn in her heart.

”Grandmother, Wei’er has a hairpin. If the County Lord really wants this hairpin, Wei’er would be willing to give it up.” Song Wei held the hairpin in both hands and handed it to Zhao Mingyao.

”Third Sister, you clearly fancied that hairpin very much, and you fell in love with it at first sight.” Song Ruqi could hardly believe it. Grandmother had just helped her win this hairpin, and now she wanted to give it away. Whose face was this supposed to slap?

Song Ruwei smiled, ”Second Sister, Wei’er also wants to be a gentleman for once and help others fulfill their desires.”

Help others fulfill their desires, my foot. You’re only eight years old; what are you pretending to be mature and selfless for?

Song Ruqi was fuming.

Song Ci’s eyes half-closed, ”Wei’er, tell the truth. Do you really not want this hairpin? If you want it, it’s yours.”

Her tone was somewhat earnest.

Song Ruwei paused, glanced down at the exquisite hairpin in her hand, gently bit her lip, and shook her head, ”Grandmother, Wei’er doesn’t particularly like it.”

A hint of disappointment flashed in Song Ci’s eyes, uncertain whether it was because this eight-year-old child was too sensible or because her words were insincere.

Song Ruwei’s heart skipped a beat, feeling slightly panicked.

Zhao Mingyao just wanted to trouble Song Ruqi, not truly wanting the hairpin. Seeing Song Ruwei pretending to be magnanimous, she expressed disdain, ”No need, a gentleman does not seize what others like. Keep it for yourself. Grand Madam, I take my leave.”

She gave a formal bow to Song Ci and left with her maids.

Song Ruwei grew more flustered, the hairpin in her hand felt scorching, as if she had done something wrong.

Song Ci took the hairpin from her hand and handed it to the shop assistant, ”Wrap it up.”

The shop assistant nervously took it, saying a few pleasing words with a smile.

”Now that everything’s bought, let’s go to Yi Pin Xiang for lunch. I heard it’s particularly delicious there.” Song Ci acted as if she hadn’t noticed her little granddaughter’s anxious expression and smiled as she turned around.

The group followed and left; this minor squabble, insignificant as it was, quickly spread through the gossip of those with intentions.
