Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Confirmed dead, cause of death... sudden organ failure... ruled out the suspicion of homicide, it’s been determined that Evan’s death has no relation to Principal Niss. Thank you for cooperating with our investigation, Principal Niss.”

Faced with the investigator’s conclusion, Principal Niss, the tentacle monster, merely nodded tremulously and then staggered out the door as if he had lost something precious.

This scene made the investigator smile knowingly—Principal Niss’s hobby was well known to everyone.

Once Niss left the room, he staggered back home, his expression suddenly changing.

”Indeed, this method works well, but the pace needs to slow down a bit to avoid others discovering any issues.”

A deep murmur emerged from Niss’s mouth, as memories belonging to Niss kept flooding in.

The whole process was quite simple, a mere identity switch tactic—Evan’s corpse could well be preserved by Wen Yu in the Netherworld.

As for the injuries on Evan’s body, it was even simpler. With Wen Yu’s methods, however Evan wanted to die, he would die that way! As for the missing soul part, that indeed posed some trouble, but soul-type powerful experts weren’t like cabbages, and given Evan’s not-so-high status, it could be glossed over.

This was the quick solution Wen Yu came up with—continually swapping identities to covertly search for clues related to the Origin Pool. Overall, although progress was somewhat slow, it was safe, and Wen Yu dared not behave recklessly within the Demon Palace.

A task is indeed precious, but life is worth even more. Yes, life is the most precious.

Thus, everything seemed to calm down.

...

However, this calm did not last long.

A week later, a delegation from the higher-ups went to inspect the research work at the Demon Realm’s Gate Institute. During the welcoming moment for the upper leader, Principal Niss suddenly fell ill and died in his office.

Identical to Evan’s manner of death, the entire institute was abuzz with rumors, suspecting whether the principal’s office had become a Cursed Land, and naturally, the inspection work ended unresolved.

They left in chaos, taking with them the source of it all.

Everything seemed so silent...

...

A month later, Demon Palace Basement Level 824.

The noisy night, chaotic city, this place called Nileth—a super city spanning the entire Demon Palace Basement Level 824!

At the same time, this was the most bottom city at the 1998th level of the Demon Palace. Further down, aside from some labs, were forbidden zones.

One Eared Crook Bar, accompanied by piercing heavy metal music, the bar door was quietly pushed open, and then, a tall bull demon stepped into the bar.

This bull demon was tall, appearing powerful and mightful, yet the glasses perched on his nose bridge and the sharp suit brought a gentlemanly demeanor to him.

As the bull demon walked into the bar, three formally dressed Ancient Demons immediately followed him inside.

Judging by the aura, compared to the burly bull demon, the three Ancient Demons behind appeared more like warriors—clearly, this was the scene of a boss going out with three bodyguards.

The noisy heavy metal music kept blaring, and this master and his servants swiftly blended into the crowd, seeming like a usual pleasure-seeking scene until the bull demon pushed through the crowd, heading straight to the bar.

”A Song of Scarlet, please.”

”Ding~~~”

Accompanied by the sound of magic crystals colliding with the tabletop, the bartender soon served a glass of crimson liquid, which the bull demon gulped down, and then, seemingly intoxicated, he casually scanned the surroundings.

The three bodyguards mingled into the crowd, continuously swaying their agile figures, seeming thoroughly immersed in the bustling scene. However, the strong perception ability told the bull demon that these three were diligently fulfilling their duty—protecting their employer, the Secretary General of Nileth...

After all, the recent days in Nileth were truly not peaceful.

However, the bull demon, as the one being protected, did not think so...

”Seems a bit too daring with the play.”

Suddenly, a light flashed in the bull demon’s eyes, his ears automatically filtering out the surrounding noise, capturing every heartbeat of the three Ancient Demon bodyguards.

Naturally, the bull demon was Wen Yu in disguise, who a month ago, had replaced a member of the inspection team under Niss’s identity and later came to Nileth—within this vast and thriving city, Wen Yu’s actions were akin to fish in water, shortly ascending to the high rank of ”Secretary General of Nileth”—the third-ranking official in Nileth.

However, the plan reached this point with some unforeseen deviations.

To obtain the position of Secretary General of Nileth, Wen Yu indeed took some risks—eight city hall officials died suddenly within a short time, causing Nileth to be on high alert, even though Wen Yu left no apparent loopholes, some savvy individuals noticed the strange aspect of these incidents and due to this, Nileth was on tenterhooks, appearing as usual but actually quite tense.

This indicated that Wen Yu had some exposure risk.

More troubling was that the entire Demon Palace tightly controlled the information about the forbidden areas below. Even being the third-ranked official of Nileth, he was scarcely informed about some secrets below, causing the search for the Origin Pool to enter a stalemate.

”Thus, a change in approach is needed...”

Wen Yu thought as he turned his head to the side.

There, a hunched figure, weary-looking Soot Skin Demon Fiend sat in the corner, gulping alcohol, oblivious to the distant gaze of the Grim Reaper.

”Agou... Director of Neil Lesgor Ancient Archives... a low-level civil servant whose position is about to be revoked...”

Recalling Agou’s identity, Wen Yu smiled and shook his head.

Some things, even if deeply hidden, always leave some clues. The bull demon’s status is high, the workload heavy, coupled with the current tense situation, Wen Yu couldn’t spend excessive time investigating those deeply buried archives.

But some people have the rightful position to manage those hidden historical records, like a director of an ancient archives.

Therefore, Wen Yu lightly snapped his fingers, and the lights went out.

The heavy metal music abruptly halted, causing the entire bar to panic, but the chaos didn’t last long. About three seconds later, the lights came back on; the tall frame of the bull demon had already collapsed on the floor, completely losing the breath of life.
