Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The investigation team had grabbed hold of Wen Yu’s little tail, then left M City without delay.

Fast and furious, clean and efficient—only pity was, One-Meter-Two never noticed the strange, cloudlike creature hidden up in the sky above their heads—it was only natural they couldn’t; first, they had no Soul Perception, second, there’s no way they’d waste Origin Energy on such a trivial matter.

So, less than five minutes after One-Meter-Two left, the whole matter had already been passed into Wen Yu’s hands.

The Cloud Puppet Clan man hadn’t heard the detailed conversation clearly—he wouldn’t be dumb enough to get up close and snoop on a Level 11 powerful expert’s intel—but Amida’s time reversal, that he saw with perfect clarity.

Starting from the very source, trying to dig out every last secret about Wen Yu—and back then, Wen Yu had been green and not very guarded, just thinking Rebirth was a huge opportunity gifted by Heaven, never imagining how many twists and turns were hidden inside.

Loose lips back then had become today’s loopholes... exposure was only natural.

”Just didn’t expect the timing to line up this well—happens to be at Level 7, happens that these Treasure Land Protectors have investigated this far...”

Wen Yu thought for a moment and understood there was a powerful patron at work; he didn’t see through all the twists and turns inside, but as for what he was facing now and what he ought to do, Wen Yu had long since made his plans.

So Wen Yu stood up, ran through his current power one last time in his head, then left the secret chamber, passed through a teleportation node, and arrived at a certain place within the tiered battle ground.

District 7, Continent Number 0339.

Beautiful scenery, lonely smoke in the vast desert...

A perfectly acceptable burial ground.

Maybe for himself, maybe for someone else.

...

One-Meter-Two and his group entered the tiered battle ground through a teleportation gate near Yanjing.

That’s right—they walked. The tiered battle ground had no treasure land, so naturally there were no Treasure Land Protectors; likewise, those Treasure Land Protectors had no authority to freely come and go in the tiered battle ground—they could only cross into the tiered battle ground’s main city through official channels, like ordinary migrants.

Of course, it’s not like they had no advantages at all—for example, the tiered battle ground’s main control system.

Just like any computer system, its developers will always leave all kinds of back doors; when the Dominator built the tiered battle ground’s main city and even the Eternal Sky City, he left hidden back doors in the main control systems of these places—these main cities, I say I’m giving them to you, and you can naturally use them as you like, but if you really treat them as your own little toys, that only proves you’re too young...

The Treasure Land Protectors didn’t have the Dominator’s level of power and authority; they couldn’t fully Control the tiered battle ground’s main control system—but using this thing to find a person was simplicity itself.

The three of them, under the strange gazes of nearby Earth creatures, swaggered straight toward the central control tower of the tiered battle ground’s main city, and at the door, they were of course stopped by the Mountain Puppet Tribe guards stationed there.

”Treasure Land Protector Number 7, by order of the Dominator, here to visit Sequence Number 1—Lord Wen Yu.”

A proper, by-the-book reason; they didn’t dare act too arrogant, and their manner couldn’t be called overbearing. Wen Yu, meanwhile, had already given the Mountain Kui group advance notice; facing One-Meter-Two and his two companions, the Mountain Puppet Tribe only lowered their heads, bent at the waist, bowed respectfully, then replied.

”The master is not here.”

”Then where is he?”

”District 7, Continent Number 0339.”

The guard told the truth. One-Meter-Two pondered for a moment, still half-doubting.

”I need to inspect the tiered battle ground’s main control system.”

”You may.”

The guard nodded in agreement.

...

Ten minutes later, when the Mountain Kui led the three of them out of the central control tower, all three—One-Meter-Two and his companions—had expressionless faces, but a gleam was gradually lighting up in their eyes.

The answer given by the main control system was identical to the Mountain Puppet Tribe’s, so they naturally reached a conclusion—Sequence Number 1 Wen Yu’s trip to District 7, Continent Number 0339, was for the purpose stated by the guard: to relax and take a stroll; he was entirely unaware of his exposure.

In One-Meter-Two’s mind, Wen Yu should not know about this matter—maybe he wasn’t even very clear on the mystery of his own Rebirth; he might not even understand that his identity and the Dominator’s stance were born to be opposed!

Discrepancies in intel are the precondition for any conspiracy to work.

So for One-Meter-Two, what came next was simple. Since they bore the title of Guardian, the Treasure Land Protectors’ official stance was proof they stood on Earth’s side; before the Dominator spoke, they were merely observers in this world, outsiders—they were obliged to maintain a detached identity. Add to that the fact that Sequence Number 1 is still Sequence Number 1: if they seized the Dominator’s appointed Sequence Number 1 in front of everyone, wouldn’t that be a slap to the Dominator’s face? They couldn’t even kill him! No matter how grave Wen Yu’s mistakes, no matter how deeply his identity cut to the bottom line, he was still that world-Invincible Sequence Number 1. And the name Sequence Number 1, whatever secrets it holds, is in the present a shield of protection. They could only choose to capture him, then wait for the Dominator to return and decide Wen Yu’s fate!

Just like the police before the end times, arresting people depends on evidence; if you don’t have evidence, even if someone’s a murderer you can’t detain them without cause.

The logic is the same, and this is also the greatest flaw and weakness of the Order Faction—they have too many concerns.

And a desolate continent with no people, only magnificent landscapes, really was the perfect battlefield—everyone’s happy, even if things get massive, without direct eyewitnesses you can always patch the story up afterward.

...

District 7, Continent Number 0339, a barren, empty desert.

Right now, Wen Yu was sitting on a sand dune, watching the Sun slowly rise until it hung overhead; in the distance, yellow sand began to billow, and at the end of that blowing sand, three figures of different heights slowly appeared.

”Lord Sequence Number 1.”

Before the people came close, the voice already carried over from afar.

”That’s me. And you are?”

”I am Treasure Land Protector Number 7. You can just call me Number 7.”

One-Meter-Two did not slow his steps; even though he was still far from Wen Yu, his voice sounded as if it were right in Wen Yu’s ear.

Wen Yu only narrowed his eyes and sized One-Meter-Two up twice, then shifted his gaze back to the horizon. His tone was mild as he asked, ”What do you want with me?”

”The Dominator wishes to see you, my lord. I wonder if you have time now?”

One-Meter-Two’s voice was respectful, devoid of any emotional fluctuation; he was merely stating a fact.

”Oh~~~”

Wen Yu dragged the sound out, then changed tack.

”Is this about Rebirth? Why don’t you start by telling me just what you’ve managed to find out.”

The moment the words left his mouth, the atmosphere froze.

At this point, Wen Yu no longer had any need to play nice with them.
