Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

At the very instant the teleportation started, Wen Yu immediately activated the Heaven-covering Robe’s Concealment effect. Although the teleportation was abrupt and fast, it didn’t cause Wen Yu any trouble.

Even if he was teleported into a crowded grand plaza, Wen Yu wouldn’t risk being discovered, let alone now in this empty steel corridor.

He quickly glanced around. This steel corridor had a simple, plain design, but the various strange items embedded in the walls told Wen Yu that the security here was indeed extremely tight.

”So I’ve probably entered some restricted area...”

”And this mission... looks like a real pain...”

Only after entering this place did Wen Yu realize just how complicated this operation was.

Infiltration was only the first step. After that he still had to locate the Origin Pool—how to find it? Bai already said it: just play it by ear... If he was lucky, he might get teleported straight into the Origin Pool; if he was unlucky, he’d have to rely on his own methods.

And the African Grand Chieftain’s luck was clearly not that good...

Coming to that simple conclusion, Wen Yu’s figure slowly floated up and flew straight off in one direction.

...

Evan was a bit unlucky today.

His experiment had gone wrong, and the project he’d been painstakingly working on for over half a year was declared a total failure. Not only that, with the experiment’s failure, the lab he had originally been solely in charge of was shut down from above, and for some reason, someone decided that a mere Level 1 researcher like him should damn well be assigned to his old rival—Niss’s lab as Niss’s assistant!

Imagining how he’d have to face that tentacle freak Niss from now on... Evan couldn’t help feeling a chill rise from the bottom of his heart...

Mad, Niss has been eyeing my looks for more than a day or two. This time I’m really screwed.

However, Evan still underestimated how unlucky he could get.

On his way back to the dorm, all sorts of thoughts kept circling in Evan’s mind. He was pondering how to guard against Niss’s ”sexual~harassment” when an even bigger tragedy descended on his head.

The scene before his eyes suddenly turned hazy and unreal, and just as Evan felt that something was off, a tall, skinny figure appeared right in front of him.

Fair, clean skin, slightly off from the Soot Skin Demon Fiend aesthetic, a face that didn’t quite match, and a black long robe that seemed to brew some kind of terrifying aura.

With his thoughts in a mess, Evan reacted a bit slowly. He opened his mouth wide and blankly asked:

”Who are you?”

...

”Who are you?”

Facing Evan’s somewhat dumb question, Wen Yu fell silent.

The Soot Skin Demon Fiend in front of Wen Yu, despite being Level 8 in strength, didn’t have a warrior’s caution at all.

A drab, ashy long robe with all sorts of strange gunk stuck to it, slightly vacant eyes, and compared to normal Soot Skin Demon Fiends, his head seemed a bit oversized.

But none of that mattered. What mattered was that after waiting an hour, Wen Yu had finally gotten his prey on the hook.

Wen Yu didn’t answer the ”who am I” question. He simply stretched out his palm and pressed it straight onto the big head of the Soot Skin Demon Fiend. Only then did Evan finally realize what was happening.

”Help! Assassin!”

Panicking like a little chick...

Alright, Wen Yu could now be sure this guy definitely wasn’t a warrior.

Evan’s cry for help received no response. The moment Wen Yu’s palm touched Evan’s skull, Evan’s body seemed to lose all strength and collapsed straight to the ground. His life aura dispersed in an instant, yet the Soul’s radiance blooming from the corpse was glaringly obvious to Wen Yu’s eyes.

Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill activated.

The scattered Light of the soul was completely Absorbed into Wen Yu’s hand. As the Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill took effect, strands of discarded emotions and feelings and other such impurities were Converted into Creation Energy; the pure Soul Power strengthened Wen Yu’s Soul Strength. More importantly, he extracted the memories from Evan’s Soul.

These memories were Evan’s entire life.

...

Wen Yu didn’t rush to pull out Evan’s memories. He just looked at Evan’s body, then activated Truth and Illusion. Reality Shift. Wen Yu’s body slowly shrank, his skin slowly darkened, and in no time at all he had completely become Evan’s likeness.

Staring at the long robe on Evan’s corpse that was giving off a weird smell, Wen Yu fell briefly silent, then changed the Heaven-covering Robe’s style to match Evan’s robe, and afterward, the Netherworld was withdrawn.

From the outside, it looked like Evan had just stood there a bit dazed, and then reappeared in the corridor—Wen Yu didn’t know if there were any surveillance devices here, but doing it this way, yeah, should be enough to fool most monitoring systems, right?

After finishing all that, Wen Yu had completed the identity replacement step. Then, while Absorbing Evan’s memories, he mimicked Evan’s walking style and headed outward.

...

Relying on his powerful Soul Strength, Wen Yu Absorbed Evan’s memories very quickly. By the time he’d just stepped out of the corridor, Evan’s memories had already been completely digested and absorbed.

Not only did he gain Evan’s living habits, habitual gestures, hobbies, and knowledge, but also Evan’s residence, workplace, and most importantly—what this place actually was.

”Space Laboratory, huh...”

This place was called the Space Laboratory, a super-sized lab located on the negative 657th floor of the Demon Palace. All of the Demon Realm’s spatial technologies were developed and produced here for military use. Of course, where this was didn’t matter that much to Wen Yu; what mattered was that he finally understood the general layout of the Demon Palace.

The Demon Palace used space compression technology. Although it didn’t look that big from the outside, the interior space scale was truly astonishing!

floors above, 999 floors below, with a total area not even inferior to the Demon Realm itself! The 999th floor above was the residence of the Demon Lord—that was common knowledge.

Wen Yu was relieved he hadn’t become the chosen one...

As for the Origin Pool’s location... Evan had no clue. He hadn’t even heard the name Origin Pool!

This guy had lived his whole life in the Demon Palace. In Evan’s worldview, the world was just this layered steel fortress. And unfortunately, while Evan’s level here was decent, in the context of the entire Demon Palace he was so small it couldn’t get any smaller. There were many secrets he didn’t understand and had no right to know.

After quickly sorting out the intel useful to him, Wen Yu pondered for a moment and decided to stay here for a while under Evan’s identity, and see if he could get in touch with higher-level secrets.

And during that brief moment of thought, Evan’s dorm was already in sight.
