Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Wen Yu finally understood what Bai meant by ”sending us to the target destination.”

In his perception, the mouth of the Devourer expanded to its extreme, its enormous jaws opening, revealing an oral cavity at least five times the size of the small island!

With unparalleled explosive force, the agile figure charged straight at the island, and in just an instant, the hideous giant mouth had touched the island.

Wen Yu watched this scene in astonishment. Then his gaze shifted to where Bai was and saw that all of Leoja’s limbs were tightly locked onto the ground, while Bai, Ye Nan, and the Avengers quickly grasped the spikes on Leoja to brace themselves for the impending impact.

Wen Yu couldn’t even utter a single curse before he felt a tremor beneath his feet. The next second, a rapid sense of weightlessness hit him, and Wen Yu only felt his body being lifted into the air, then complete darkness descended overhead.

...

The Devourer cleanly devoured the small island, then twisted its body and shot into the distance, as effortlessly as if it had eaten a peanut. However, Wen Yu, who was swallowed into the Devourer’s belly, was not in such a pleasant situation.

The rapid descent caused some discomfort for Wen Yu, and his mouth and nose were filled with the smell of gunpowder. The Devourer’s breath was quite heavy, and the environment inside its mouth was rather harsh. The continuously secreted mucus around its oral cavity was highly corrosive. Wen Yu could even see the small island he had just set foot on being continuously corroded and digested in this mucus, eventually turning into the mucus itself.

However, this bit of harsh environment naturally did not cause much impact on Wen Yu. As he sorted through the events that had just occurred in his mind, Wen Yu understood Bai’s intention—having this guy take them to the target destination was far easier than fighting their way there.

Once he figured this out, Wen Yu couldn’t be bothered to teach the Devourer a small lesson. Darkness energy surged from his hand, winding around the top of the Devourer’s mouth like a hook, and then tightened, fixing Wen Yu in place within the Devourer’s mouth.

His perception ability continuously emanated, and Wen Yu only felt as though the depths of the Devourer’s body were like an invisible black hole, constantly emitting a strong gravitational pull, but this did not cause much interference to Wen Yu. However, with the strength of Leoja, Bai, and the others, they probably couldn’t withstand this pull. Naturally, the entire team was now only Wen Yu within the Devourer’s mouth.

The team was temporarily separated, but Bai had already accounted for this, so it wasn’t a major issue.

After his eyes briefly adjusted to the dark environment, when fuzzy images once again came into view, Wen Yu realized that the Devourer’s oral cavity wasn’t entirely pitch black. A faint red light emanated from within, which Wen Yu estimated to be the glow from the Devourer’s own membrane. Excluding the poor air quality and the ubiquitous mucus, the scene here could indeed be considered beautiful and magnificent.

Based on the inertia feedback coming from his body, Wen Yu could speculate on the direction the Devourer was moving—in general, heading towards the core of the cross-section. As Wen Yu further adapted to this environment, he gradually discovered some interesting aspects.

This Devourer’s flesh and bone structure was different from any creature Wen Yu had seen before. His perception ability rapidly expanded, easily penetrating the Devourer’s membrane and reaching out to the outside world. Molten lava entered Wen Yu’s perception range, and from time to time, he could even sense the presence of other creatures living there—like riding an underwater sightseeing submarine.

Relaxed, leisurely, it was far better than the first half of the journey.

Without needing to engage in life-and-death battles with those strange creatures, Wen Yu naturally enjoyed the leisure. After a while, Wen Yu decided to abandon the hook, landing on his feet, stepping on the lower mouth of the Devourer, and walking step by step toward the depths of the Devourer’s body.

Finding Bai comes first before anything else—this was Wen Yu’s initial objective for action.

...

The Jade Pendant in his hand emitted a faint glow, this radiance forming an arrow-shaped light shadow, guiding Wen Yu towards Bai’s direction—right within the depths of the Devourer’s body.

While spreading out his perception, sensing the Devourer’s movement route, Wen Yu slowly walked inside this giant creature’s body. The mucus under his feet formed small puddles, and after a simple experiment, Wen Yu found that the corrosive power of the mucus was entirely within his tolerance range, so he no longer paid it any mind.

There was nothing but emptiness around him, and as Wen Yu got closer to the Devourer’s abdomen, the pull also gradually weakened. But proportionately, the corrosiveness of the Devourer’s secreted mucus grew stronger. Strangely enough, the Devourer’s body structure was akin to a long cylindrical tube, devoid of any elements other than external skin, nothing but mucus everywhere. Wen Yu couldn’t see a single blood vessel, bone, or organ. His pace quickened, and after walking for about ten minutes, arriving at about two-thirds of the Devourer’s body, he halted in front of a vast lake.

The ”lake” was large, completely blocking Wen Yu’s path forward. The water inside was very clear, but the pungent smell entering his nostrils made Wen Yu furrow his brows deeply—this place must be the Devourer’s ’digestive system.’

Setting aside the corrosiveness, the properties similar to gastric juices were downright nauseating for Wen Yu, and he had no desire at all to step into them. Fortunately, the Jade Pendant in his hand was emitting unprecedented light, indicating that Bai should be nearby.

Wen Yu looked around until a faint glow suddenly appeared in a certain place, and squinting his eyes, he hurriedly flew forward.

...

When Wen Yu found Bai, Bai was lying at the edge of the lake, with both calves completely gone, as if corroded by some acidic liquid. He was guzzling down medicinal potion, his body shimmering with a faint white light, which formed a defensive barrier, continuously neutralizing the corrosive air around him.

Ye Nan stood behind Bai, his clothes completely corroded. However, the concept of the undying body proved quite effective, as the slight acidity did not affect Ye Nan. Of the six Avengers left, only three remained, with Leoja at the head of the three who were panting heavily around Bai. It seemed these guys had accidentally fallen into the lake and had only barely managed to climb out.

Seeing Wen Yu approach, Bai nodded at Wen Yu with a pale face, and only after his legs grew back did Bai stand up and say to Wen Yu, ”We just accidentally fell into the Devourer’s gastric juice, losing three of us.”

Bai’s expression was indifferent, as this loss was likely within their expectations.
