Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 811: Chapter 181: The Second Favor!

”The cost of power... ”

After listening to Wen Yu’s account, Lin Haifeng on the other end of the line pondered for a long time, and Wen Yu could even hear the sound of a fingertip tapping on the table—a small habit of Lin Haifeng’s when he was deep in thought.

After a while, Lin Haifeng spoke once more.

”Let me give you a heads-up, Tang Haofei has changed a bit since he came back this time... Something’s off about his personality, though I can’t pinpoint more than that; it needs observing. Be careful yourself regarding this matter.”

A kind reminder!

Although Wen Yu didn’t know what Lin Haifeng had seen in Tang Haofei, he knew that Lin Haifeng’s words were well-meaning.

So, Wen Yu conceded with rare politeness.

”If I can help with Old Tang’s situation, I will.”

”No need for now. There’s more I haven’t figured out yet. Well, let’s leave it at that. I wish you all the best on your trip to India.”

With that, Lin Haifeng ended the communication.

...

His previously good mood was completely disrupted by the situation with Tang Haofei.

Recalling the conversation between the Golden Armor and the Dominator in his mind: ”The cost of power... irreversible... ”

It was like a thorn lodged in Wen Yu’s heart.

He exhaled a long breath, quickly casting these issues from his mind—what was he worrying about something even the Dominator couldn’t solve?

Slowly standing up, looking at the snow-covered ground before him, Wen Yu’s disturbed mood improved considerably.

He glanced at his three soul pets, beckoning them with a wave.

”Let’s go, set off to... ”

”Beep beep beep... ”

Once again, the communicator in his hand rang. Wen Yu looked at the number in surprise, then frowned.

”It’s Tang Haofei again... ”

...

”Old Tang? What’s wrong again?”

”Wen Yu, there’s one more thing. I need your help. This time, I’ll owe you a favor!”

Tang Haofei’s voice was slightly anxious. Before Wen Yu could speak, Tang Haofei continued.

”When you arrive in New Delhi, you might have to wait for ten days or so. Someone will contact you via your communicator, telling you what to do next. Don’t worry; it won’t be troublesome.”

”Tang... ”

Before Wen Yu could finish, he was cut off by a busy signal on the other end. He immediately called back.

However...

”Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off...”

Slowly lowering the communicator in his hand, Wen Yu frowned, thinking of the peculiar sense of weakness in Tang Haofei’s soul he had perceived before.

After a moment, Wen Yu shook his head with a wry smile.

”I can’t figure it out, can’t see through it...”

That was the honest reflection of Wen Yu on everything happening to Tang Haofei.

So, everything returned to the starting point—what was he worrying about things the Dominator couldn’t solve?

It’s hard to say whether this attitude is good or bad. However, since worrying is pointless, why not live a little easier?

This was Wen Yu’s true thought, and it was his true nature.

Directing Star to grow larger, Wen Yu then held Cyclops and Victor as they stood on Star’s back.

The giant dragon soared, wings spread wide, and under Wen Yu’s guidance, Star flew swiftly toward the southwest.

India, one of the four ancient civilizations, the largest country in South Asia, and also the second most populous country before the apocalypse—even after the apocalypse, it remained the same.

After the emergence of the Exchange Stone Pillar and the professionist system, population issues became a point that couldn’t be ignored—just like before the apocalypse, there was an old saying in Cathay: the population is the primary productive force. This saying became a stark reality after the world changed.

When ordinary people could gain tremendous power through the Exchange Stone Pillar (at least enough to resist conventional firearms), the population, or rather the number of professionists, instantly became an important benchmark for measuring the overall national strength after the apocalypse—a large population base signified a strong foundation and a fertile ground to cultivate powerful experts!

In other words, with a base of a billion people, India had no shortage of strong experts, and similarly, its combat capabilities were not weak—this was also a key reason why India was able to stand firm against the demon plague.

Now, the Indian battlefield had become the largest in the world, with the most participants and the most intense battles. It was also an extremely brutal and bloody giant meat grinder.

When the Demon Tribe’s attack on the Yanjing Assembly Site proved unsuccessful, most of the Demon Tribe forces in Asia were redeployed to the Indian battlefield. In response to this pressure, India, adhering to the spirit of international cooperation, decisively appealed to the Earth Community for aid—they needed equipment, magic crystals, military forces, combatants, and powerful experts. In short, India did not refuse anything that could help resist the demon plague.

This led to an interesting phenomenon. Now, India was filled with Independents from various regions and countries, or organized military units.

Of course, due to geopolitical reasons, outside of native Indians, the most numerous were Cathay nationals.

Walking along the dirty and chaotic streets of New Delhi, Wang Chenglin moved swiftly, quickly dodging past beggars and *sellers on the roadside. His body moved as if boneless, weaving through the dense crowds. In no time, he slipped into a secluded alleyway.

He lightly pressed his index finger on his watch, and the earpiece implanted in his ear emitted a twinkling activation sound, after which communication connected.

”Code 5523.”

”Please hold on.”

A clear female voice rang out, and after a while, a voice came into Wang Chenglin’s ear.

”This is the Special Operations Command, Code 5523, issuing the latest mission orders. Scheduled reinforcements have already departed for New Delhi. Meeting point is XXX, XXX.”

”Code 5523 received.”

”Beep.”

The communication was disconnected.

Wang Chenglin nonchalantly tapped his watch, then stood upright.

”Come out, since you’ve been following me for so long.”

Fluent Hindi flowed from Wang Chenglin’s mouth, and in response, there was the sound of crisp applause.

”What can I say? As expected of a Cathay spy?”

Two figures appeared on either side of the alleyway, walking in from the distance.

Dressed in coarse linen garments, even by post-apocalyptic standards, their attire was terrible to behold. But despite their simple clothing, Wang Chenglin dared not underestimate the four figures approaching him.

Peak Level 5 professionists, all four of them!

Based on the situation, they must have been tracking him for quite some time...

Muscles on his body began to tremble, as if a dormant beast was about to awaken, but Wang Chenglin feigned indifference as he asked, ”Rebels? I don’t have any grudge against you. What do you want with me?”

”Not much, we just want...”

Before the words were finished, Wang Chenglin had already made his move.

Blades of cold light shot from his hands, and in the next second, without even looking at the result of his attack, Wang Chenglin sprang upwards like a spring, aiming for the space above his head. One against four, with similar physical attributes, taking them on wasn’t feasible, but he could at least try to escape, couldn’t he?

However, the suddenly blackened canopy sealed off Wang Chenglin’s retreat completely.

In the next moment, he just caught a shimmer in front of him, and then stinging pain surged through his body. In just an instant, both his hands and legs had completely lost feeling.

”Sequence Number 83...”

Gazing at the tall figure holding his body, Wang Chenglin’s mouth curled in bitterness.

A gentle voice came to his ear: ”Don’t be afraid, sir. I just want to get some information from you. You know, our intelligence system has been completely worn out by those Brahmins and Kshatriyas. So... you understand. Lastly, let me stress this, I don’t want to escalate this minor issue into a diplomatic incident.”

”What information?”

”That child, Rahal, you know where he is, right? We want his exact location.”

”He’s under the protection of the government forces.”

A very smooth lie slipped from his lips, causing Sequence Number 83 to chuckle.

”Never mind, sir, I think it would be best for you to pay us a visit. Perhaps after a few bowls of Ganges water, you’ll truly understand our sincerity.”
