Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 398: Chapter 29 Awakening_2

This was the difference between having a skill and not having one! It was also the reason this plan wasn’t afraid of Wen Yu’s soul pet—with the soul pet present, it would, at most, only make the plan take a bit longer. Even if Cyclops and Star detected Annie’s plan, they would have no way to deal with her. Annie had always been by Wen Yu’s side; Wen Yu would never stand idly by if Annie were threatened!

And when Wen Yu officially met Anna, the third phase arrived. At this stage, Wen Yu, on his own, could not escape Anna’s spiritual control. With all his memories replaced, strictly speaking, Wen Yu was no longer himself once the plan reached this point. All his past memories were false; his perspectives on life, the world, and his values had all been artificially molded. Having reached this stage, the original Wen Yu was, in fact, already dead.

More accurately, if Anna had completely blocked the Night Daemon Smilodon’s passage to and from the Netherworld, and if Wen Yu had not learned of the Night Daemon Smilodon’s plan in advance, he would have already been dead.

When Wen Yu, carrying Palpitation and Mad Medley, walked into the depths of the Red Stone Hotel and saw the Night Daemon Smilodon, things took a turn.

The Night Daemon Smilodon’s black body trembled continuously, as if it were enduring immense pain. Expressionless, Wen Yu walked up to the Night Daemon Smilodon and gently picked it up.

The Night Daemon Smilodon weakly opened its eyes. Its green eyes showed even more cracks, as if they were about to shatter. Then, the Night Daemon Smilodon saw the pendant on Wen Yu’s chest: the Pendant of Forgetfulness that Yang Hong had given to Wen Yu.

The next second, Little White, the small Soul Beast, suddenly floated to Wen Yu’s chest. Its round body split open, revealing a large gap from which a small white tooth was clearly visible. Then, it bit the Pendant of Forgetfulness to pieces.

A massive torrent of memory fragments and Wen Yu’s own spiritual imprint poured out from the shattered Pendant of Forgetfulness.

Then, his memories began to resurface. The sensation of his soul being torn apart made Wen Yu cry out in agony.

After a while, when everything calmed down, Wen Yu opened his eyes.

”MEOW...”

A feeble sound emerged. The Night Daemon Smilodon quietly regarded Wen Yu, clear puzzlement in its eyes.

Wen Yu sat in a daze for a moment, then slowly gave the Night Daemon Smilodon a thumbs up. ”The plan was a success, but you didn’t tell me that memory replacement would be so painful...”

”MEOW.”

”Can’t be helped. This Great One was severely injured for your sake, so it’s no big deal that you’re suffering some minor injuries now, MEOW~”

”For me?” Wen Yu raised an eyebrow.

”Exactly! Earth Will wanted to meet you, so I crafted the Dreamland for you. But the Dominator found out, MEOW~ That old bastard nearly blew my head up! But This Great One is so brave and resourceful that even with my battered body, I managed to turn defeat into victory...”

After the Night Daemon Smilodon finished speaking, it gently licked its paw and put on an air of smug accomplishment. Alas...

”Hey, the corner of your eye is bleeding. Do you need me to treat it for you?”

Memories flashed through Wen Yu’s mind. Coupled with his recent experiences, he slowly pieced together the entirety of what had happened.

The collaboration between Anna and the U.S. military had a very low chance of success from the start. They had completely underestimated the power of a divine beast species. As a resurrected super divine beast species and the Realm Lord of the Netherworld, the Night Daemon Smilodon possessed strength completely beyond Anna’s imagination!

To prevent the military from sending more powerful experts into the Netherworld, the Night Daemon Smilodon feigned weakness and pretended to fall for their deceptions, allowing Anna to achieve one victory after another. Simultaneously, it secretly cultivated Yang Hong, the strongest individual in the Las Vegas Assembly Site, to achieve its goal: seizing the medium on Annie that connected the Netherworld to the real world.

Then, the Night Daemon Smilodon silently awaited Anna’s move, intending to counterattack at the last moment, eliminate the threat Anna posed, and seize the entire Netherworld with lightning speed!

Unfortunately, when Wen Yu arrived in Las Vegas, unexpected complications arose. Earth Will wanted to communicate with Wen Yu through the Night Daemon Smilodon. Among the known divine beast species, the Night Daemon Smilodon was perhaps the only one with this ability. As an agent of Earth Will, the Night Daemon Smilodon couldn’t refuse the request. However, before they could exchange more than a few words, the Dominator discovered them. The two sides then clashed violently within the spiritual world constructed by the Night Daemon Smilodon. This battle tore the entire space apart and, incidentally, inflicted grievous injuries upon the Night Daemon Smilodon!

This also meant that the Night Daemon Smilodon had lost the ability to counterattack. Exhausting its last ounce of strength, it conveyed the truth and its plan to Wen Yu. Then, the Night Daemon Smilodon retreated deep within the Red Stone Hotel in the Netherworld, guarding its final bastion and awaiting Wen Yu’s arrival.

The moment Wen Yu and the Night Daemon Smilodon met, Anna’s plan was officially bankrupt. Simultaneously, it was the moment Wen Yu and the Night Daemon Smilodon’s own plan was set into motion.

「Outside the Red Stone Hotel, in the Netherworld.」

Ever since Wen Yu had entered, Anna had been anxiously staring at the door of the Red Stone Hotel. Unfortunately, not a single sound emerged.

Anna didn’t know what was happening inside, nor did she know the status of the battle between Wen Yu and the Night Daemon Smilodon.

Time slowly passed, until a figure slowly emerged from inside the Red Stone Hotel.

Seeing this figure, and the black cat cradled in its hands, Anna let out a sigh of relief. She took two steps forward with a smile, asking, ”Was it a success, my dear?”
