Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 392: Chapter 26: The Earth Community Plan, Lin Haifeng’s Ambition, and the Unprecedented Colossal Entity!_1

As the storm began to subside, Wen Yu held Annie in his arms, her small body curled up like a kitten. A warm smile played upon his lips.

It had been a long, long time since he last felt this kind of warmth...

When was the last time?

Perhaps when he was young, in Mudanjiang City...

Where was Mudanjiang City?

He had forgotten...

As these thoughts passed through his mind, he glanced down at the beautiful woman sleeping soundly beside him, her skin glistening with sweat. He gently kissed the corner of Annie’s mouth, and then slowly drifted into a dream.

...

It was a beautiful dream...

Wen Yu dreamt of an ordinary yet warm daily life with Annie.

They had created a complete home on this warm piece of land, where Cyclops gnawed on endless bones each day and Star soared in the estate’s sky above.

They also had a pair of twins who were stunningly beautiful. The little darlings always enjoyed pulling Cyclops’s ears.

However, the demon plague arrived...

The ferocious and terrifying Demon Army tore everything apart. Wen Yu tried to resist but could only helplessly watch as his soul pets were killed in battle. Even Annie and their two precious children were torn to pieces by the Demon Tribe!

Despair once again enveloped Wen Yu.

A giant figure made of light suddenly appeared before Wen Yu.

”Do you want to save everything you love, no matter the cost?”

”I am willing...”

Wen Yu looked at the gigantic figure in the sky with a desperate longing in his eyes.

His will shattered at those simple words—”I am willing”—and then he slipped into the abyss...

...

Wen Yu sat upright with a start, gasping for breath.

Awoken by a nightmare again...

Shivering, he slid out of bed and took big gulps of the warm water placed beside him.

After a moment, Wen Yu calmed himself and listened carefully to the sounds in the room.

In the room next door, two familiar snores could be heard—those were Cyclops and Star.

The two beasts must have been taken care of by Annie, who had gotten up early.

In the kitchen, the aroma of food wafted out, accompanied by a familiar presence.

It was Annie...

Tiptoeing, Wen Yu quietly walked into the kitchen and immediately saw Annie’s familiar figure.

Her beautiful eyes had a serious and dedicated look as she arranged the aromatic dishes on the dining table.

”COUGH, COUGH.” Wen Yu coughed lightly, startling Annie, who was cooking.

”Woken up? Let’s eat. Taste my cooking.”

A soft, warm smile emerged on her face, causing Wen Yu’s heart to swell.

It was exactly the same, just like in his dream, exactly the same...

It made Wen Yu unable to distinguish between illusion and reality!

And I—Wen Yu—will protect this smile, no matter the cost!

...

As if they were an old married couple, they ate lunch together, cleaned the room together, appreciated the flowers and scenery together, and then fell asleep in each other’s arms.

At this moment, Wen Yu seemed to forget about time, forget where he was, and forget many things he once thought were important...

In Wen Yu’s heart, it seemed like having Annie’s company was enough.

Meanwhile, Cyclops and Star, who shared the same roof, merely looked on.

Caught in the trap, Wen Yu paid no heed to Cyclops and Star’s feelings. Then, at a certain moment, Cyclops and Star vanished into the darkness as if they had never been. Only their occasional footprints remained. Wen Yu seemed to have forgotten his two soul pets entirely, continuing to admire the flowers and the moon with Annie, completely immersed in this strange world of emotions.

「Time slipped away, and three days had passed!」

...

Wen Yu sat by the window, his eyes visibly blank. Only when Annie appeared did a hint of life return to them.

At that moment, Wen Yu and Annie were sitting at the dining table in the kitchen. Wen Yu mechanically wielded his knife and fork, mangling the steak on his plate.

Seeing this, Annie sighed softly. She gently took the knife and fork from Wen Yu and began to feed him the steak.

”Dear, do you remember when we were children, playing around in the yard?”

On hearing Annie’s question, Wen Yu smiled and nodded.

”Yes, I remember. I accidentally made you cry, and my father gave me a beating for it. You cried and tried to stop him; your nose was even running.”

A beautiful smile spread across Wen Yu’s face, but paired with his dull eyes, it looked utterly unsettling.

”Unfortunately, my parents and yours were killed by zombies at the very beginning of the apocalypse.”

As Annie spoke, she seemed to truly believe it, tears welling in her eyes. Wen Yu gently held her.

”You still have me...”

Annie’s tears quickly turned to laughter. ”Yes,” she said, ”I still have you...”

They held each other warmly, an intimate atmosphere filling the room.

After a moment, Annie was the first to break the warm silence.

”Where are Cyclops and Star?”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yu was taken aback.

”Cyclops and Star? Who are they... How strange. I remember they were important to me, but I can’t seem to recall them.”

Wen Yu frowned in confusion, seemingly falling into a maelstrom of thought. At the same time, deep within his vacant eyes, a glimmer of light slowly began to shine.

And then...

A pair of soft hands gently encircled Wen Yu’s waist.

”If you can’t remember, then don’t try. Last time you went to kill the Night Daemon Smilodon, you both ended up badly injured, and you lost many of your memories. But I believe that if we work together, we can definitely get those memories back!”
