Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 388: Chapter 22 Brilliant_1

Not long after Yang Hong left, Claus quietly came over, bent down next to Wen Yu’s ear, and spoke softly.

”Annie and Claire will be arriving soon. Lord Kuangliu wanted to ask your opinion.”

Wen Yu pondered for a moment, then shook his head.

”I have no opinion. The banquet should proceed as usual.”

”Understood.”

After Claus finished, he quickly walked out of the banquet hall. The importance of Annie and Claire was enough for Claus, the host, to personally welcome them.

...

Annie had a military background, a fact Kuangliu had confirmed.

In fact, Annie had joined the military system relatively late. When the military deployed a garrison to Las Vegas, Annie was the first to make contact with them.

It had to be said, Annie was quite shrewd. She not only successfully integrated into the military system but also became close friends with the American military’s strongest, Claire.

At least in the eyes of outsiders, the relationship between Claire and Annie seemed very good. This time, when Claire came to Las Vegas, the first place she went was not the Red Stone Hotel, but Annie’s residence.

Therefore, it wasn’t strange when Annie and Claire walked into the venue together.

...

When Claus led Annie and Claire into the banquet hall, Wen Yu’s eyes suddenly brightened.

The two women were quite exceptional in appearance. Even Wen Yu, who wasn’t particularly lecherous, felt a surge of hormones.

Claire was not wearing her usual tight-fitting leather battle suit, nor did she have that obtrusive large metal box on her back. Instead, she wore a pure black, form-fitting long dress. Her perfect waistline and voluptuous chest attracted the eyes of most men in the room. Her captivatingly sensual posture made countless people gulp.

And Annie, beside Claire, was even more stunning!

Dressed in a vibrant red gown that complemented her perfect face and figure, she was like a rose in full bloom, constantly radiating allure. The slightly upturned corners of her lips held an enticing smile, and her entire being exuded an overwhelming feminine charm.

Wen Yu, sitting in the corner, silently put on his glasses.

”DING! Peak Level 3!”

Seeing this message, Wen Yu wasn’t too surprised.

Although Annie’s strength was only at Peak Level 3, her appearance made her actual power level seem less important.

After all, this was an era that valued looks.

And it was obvious that Annie knew how to use her natural advantages well.

Annie first exchanged greetings with Claire, then had a few words with Claus, accepted a wine glass from a nearby Servant, and finally walked elegantly towards the corner.

That was where Wen Yu was seated.

...

”Hi, beautiful.”

Wen Yu lifted his wine glass towards the approaching Annie and nodded.

Annie moved gracefully and sat elegantly on the couch next to Wen Yu. She spoke in a slightly husky voice, ”I’ve heard from Lady Claire that you, Sequence Number 2, are extremely powerful. Today, I can see that you are truly extraordinary.”

It had to be said, although Wen Yu had heard such compliments many times, it felt different coming from a beautiful woman.

Wen Yu simply nodded without saying anything further.

After a while, Annie leaned closer, her beautiful face coming right up to Wen Yu’s as she said, ”Claus mentioned that you wanted to ask me something. What is it?”

Her intoxicating scent made Wen Yu slightly dizzy, and his thoughts seemed to slow. After a pause, Wen Yu finally said, ”I wanted to ask about the deaths of the Las Vegas soldiers.”

Annie gently shook her head. ”There are no results. Those two groups of soldiers just died in the camp. Even when Claire arrived later, she couldn’t find anything. You can ask Claire to confirm.”

”Hmm.”

Wen Yu nodded gently, ”By the way, have you heard about a mutant beast here that has Dream Ability?”

Annie shook her head gently.

”I haven’t heard about that, but I did get some information before. It seems Yang Hong experienced something similar to a dream.”

Hearing this, Wen Yu felt helpless...

Things had come full circle.

Just as Wen Yu was thinking, Annie suddenly spoke to him.

”By the way, my lord, I’ve often heard Claire speak of your great strength and how terrifying your soul pets are. Would you mind telling me about yourself?”

There was a touch of curiosity in Annie’s clear eyes, which made her seem lively and cute. Coupled with her scent, Wen Yu suddenly felt that being with this woman was rather relaxing. Wen Yu then took a small sip of the drink in his cup and slowly said, ”That’s a long story.”

...

Wen Yu and Annie were engaged in an enjoyable conversation, and this scene did not go unnoticed by Claire.

A hint of worry and deep thought flickered in Claire’s eyes, as if she were contemplating a particularly difficult problem. Then, she sighed lightly, and determination quickly solidified her gaze.

With the arrival of the heavyweight guests, Claire and Annie, Claus concluded his somewhat unbefitting welcoming duties and stood in the center of the banquet hall. He took the microphone a Servant handed him and cleared his throat lightly.

”Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the dinner party hosted by the Red Stone Hotel. Now, please welcome tonight’s initiator—the super powerful expert from Cathay, Sequence Number 3, Lin Kuangliu!”

Thunderous applause filled the room. Then, Kuangliu slowly walked out from a corner at the back, dressed in a well-fitting suit that highlighted his heroic and distinguished bearing. At this moment, Kuangliu’s striking appearance made even Wen Yu feel a touch envious.

Annie, who was sitting next to him, seemed to notice Wen Yu’s change of mood and said softly, ”I actually prefer more casual clothes than this formal dress. If it weren’t for Claire insisting on it, I’d be wearing my own clothes now.”

”Oh?”

Wen Yu raised an eyebrow, ”This isn’t your dress?”

”It’s a gift from Claire. Do you think it’s pretty?”

Annie lightly tugged at the hem of her skirt, revealing half of her fair, slender calf.

The sight of her fair skin made Wen Yu swallow hard.

This woman was not only beautiful but also alluring. Being with her made Wen Yu feel relaxed and joyful.

Wen Yu nodded slightly, acknowledging Annie’s beauty.

Meanwhile, on stage, Kuangliu delivered a brief speech with the usual platitudes about eating and drinking well, officially signaling the start of the banquet.

Melodious music filled the air as Wen Yu and Annie sat in a corner, engrossed in conversation. It was as if they had forgotten the world, or perhaps, the world had forgotten them...

”That time in the Demon Suppression Tower Treasure Land was truly a nightmare...”

Gazing at Annie’s face, now close to his own, Wen Yu regaled her with amusing stories of his journey since the apocalypse, occasionally making her burst into laughter.

Annie also sometimes mentioned some happenings in Las Vegas, which Wen Yu listened to attentively.

At one point, a thought suddenly struck Wen Yu—This woman is truly wonderful.

...

The melodious music flowed like silver pearls, casting a dreamy hue over the banquet hall. Annie was animatedly recounting embarrassing childhood stories when Wen Yu abruptly extended his hand and said, ”Shall we dance?”

His sudden invitation interrupted Annie’s lively chatter. Annie hesitated, glancing at the dance floor before winking cheekily at Wen Yu. ”My nickname is the Nightclub Queen, you know. Besides, can you even do this kind of dance?”

Wen Yu revealed a contemplative expression for a moment, then gently shook his head.

”That’s true, I’ve never learned before... but...”

Before she could react, Wen Yu somewhat roughly pulled Annie to her feet. He guided her to the center of the dance floor with an arm around her, then leaned in, his voice an aggressive whisper by her ear.

”I’m Sequence Number 2, you know. Something this simple? I can learn it just by watching!”

The next second, the music swelled. Wen Yu, holding Annie by the waist, began to dance with practiced steps. Annie’s red dress swirled around them like a spectacularly blooming rose.

...

Kuangliu slowly walked over to Claire. She stood with a wine glass in hand, her eyes fixed on Annie and Wen Yu in the center of the dance floor, her expression unreadable.

”Your friend... she’s quite something,” Kuangliu said softly, his voice just loud enough for the two of them to hear.

Claire shook her head but said nothing.

”Afraid?”

Claire nodded, her tone solemn as she said, ”If he goes berserk, both of us will die here! I’m very sure, and so are you, that his power surpasses ours combined!”

Kuangliu nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on Claire’s eyes. After a moment, he said with a sigh, ”The arrow is nocked; it must be fired! Besides, wasn’t the plan already made? You want Sequence Number 2, and we want the Night Daemon Smilodon. The plan is perfect. Even if it’s exposed in the end, we can still extricate ourselves from the situation.”

Kuangliu finished speaking and stared intently into Claire’s eyes. ”Act cautiously. Don’t reveal anything. Even the slightest mistake means the plan fails, and that’s a small matter. The enmity of Sequence Number 2 is something your American military cannot afford! Don’t forget, this is happening on your soil!”

Claire’s gaze seemed distant. After a moment, she shook her head helplessly.

”I never really wanted to be the military’s top expert. Taking on this role means encountering all sorts of darkness. I’m afraid... I’m truly afraid I’ll become someone like you. Someone who can betray even a friend without a second thought.”

”Heh.”

Kuangliu shook his head and said with feeling, ”Remember one thing, Wen Yu is not my friend! He’s merely an uncontrollable factor, beyond the military’s command!”

”Previously, we had no way to control him. But now we have a method, and the success rate is quite high. Why shouldn’t we try?”

”So, using him to gain favorable conditions for our Cathay military—that’s what I should do! And it’s what I, as the supreme expert of the Cathay military, must do!”

His words left both Kuangliu and Claire in silence.

After a long pause, Kuangliu respectfully extended his right hand to Claire. ”Come, relax. How about a dance? My status and strength should be qualification enough to invite you, don’t you think?”

Claire nodded gently, set down her wine glass, and glided onto the dance floor with Kuangliu.
