Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 375: Chapter 9 The People Standing at the Peak of the Human Race (Additional update for Lazy Cancer at 19.98 million rewards)_1

When Jake respectfully handed over his communication device, the matter no longer had much to do with Wen Yu.

Wen Yu’s own desire to return to Cathay wasn’t absolute. Kuangliu’s desire might have been slightly stronger. However, without Wen Yu, or more accurately, without Star, it would be difficult for Kuangliu to run back to Cathay. The journey would take him across wilds filled with mutant beasts. Speed wasn’t the issue; avoiding the beasts was the real problem.

As a divine beast, Star could potentially cross over half the Earth. Though difficult, it wasn’t an unimaginable feat.

What the duo should do next depended on the outcome of Kuangliu’s communication with Lin Haifeng. Of course, this process would require several steps to relay the communication, which would inevitably waste some time.

Meanwhile, Wen Yu was completely engrossed in the small booklet Jake had presented.

...

The booklet was finely printed with the title: ”Standing on the Top of the World.”

Wen Yu drew upon all his schooling to barely understand the name of this little booklet. The next page contained a long preface, written in English...

This was a bit embarrassing. Fortunately, the booklet was filled with pictures and text. After all, Wen Yu had received nine years of compulsory education, so he could barely decipher some of the ”is, am, are” parts with some guesswork.

The preface of the book mainly introduced some concepts about the origins and significance of the Sequences.

Afterward, Wen Yu turned to the next page. A large question mark appeared before his eyes, with some descriptions below:

”Sequence Number 1: Nationality: Unknown!”

”Gender: Unknown.”

”Name: Unknown.”

”Power Level: Unknown.”

All entries were marked ’Unknown,’ indicating that the militaries of various nations knew nothing at all about Sequence Number 1. This was rather disappointing.

Wen Yu also wanted to see what kind of monster this person, who was ranked above him, truly was.

The next page featured Wen Yu himself. A large, full-face photo of him was prominently displayed. Judging by the background, it seemed to have been candidly taken at an outpost; the clarity was quite good.

Below it, there was a large amount of descriptive text:

”Sequence Number 2: Nationality: Cathay! Independent!”

”Gender: Male.”

”Name: Wen Yu.”

”Power Level: Early Stage Level 5.”

The rest detailed some battle achievements, such as merits earned at the outpost. Of course, Wen Yu couldn’t understand much of it.

This Power Level must have been from about a month ago, he thought. Currently, based on physical fitness alone, he was definitely a Peak Level 5 professionist.

The third page was Kuangliu.

The fourth page, however, featured an unfamiliar middle-aged man.

The photo was taken from a dim angle, making it only faintly discernible that the location was a small church. A middle-aged man in black priest’s attire was seated on a lounge chair before the church entrance, engrossed in reading a massive book.

”Sequence Number 4: Nationality: France! Independent!”

”Gender: Male.”

”Name: Kasu.”

”Power Level: Early Stage Level 5.”

”Seven days ago, in the Hell treasure land, cooperated with Sequence Number 10 to kill two Early Stage Level 5 demon spawns. At that time, Sequence Number 10’s Power Level was only Middle Stage Level 4.”

Below this, many past achievements were listed, but the entry above was clearly the most recent. Only through this latest information could one roughly gauge Sequence Number 4’s current strength.

His strength is quite decent, Wen Yu mused.

Wen Yu quickly glanced through the Sequences on the following pages:

Sequence Number 5: Claire. Gender: Female. Nationality: America. Affiliation: Military!

Sequence Number 6: Unknown.

Sequence Number 7: Akad. Gender: Male. Nationality: Britain. Independent!

Sequence Number 8: Fang Bai. Gender: Male. Nationality: Cathay. Affiliation: Military!

Sequence Number 9: Michael. Gender: Male. Nationality: Germany. Affiliation: Military!

Sequence Number 10: Joshua. Gender: Male. Nationality: America. Independent!

After briefly memorizing the top ten powerful experts in the Sequence, Wen Yu flipped through the rest of the content.

The Dominator had only established 100 Sequence numbers in total. Among these 100 in the Human Race Sequence, 81 were documented. This meant there were 19 individuals about whom the militaries of various nations had no clues or information.

Moreover, the list also revealed something else.

”Yang Pengguang is dead. It looks like your old man won,” Wen Yu said, presumably having seen this information in the booklet.

Hearing this, Kuangliu nodded gently, his body slowly relaxing.

The reason Kuangliu had been eager to contact the military was precisely to ascertain the outcome of the war between Lin Haifeng and Peng Jun. Yang Pengguang’s death largely indicated the war’s direction.

Jake, who was nearby, interjected, ”Are you two referring to the recent incident involving the Demon Worship Sect in Cathay? As far as we know, Commander Lin handled it quite decisively. That turmoil didn’t have much impact on Cathay.”

News certainly travels fast... Wen Yu thought.

”I’m not done yet.”

Wen Yu smiled, pointed to Fang Bai’s entry for Sequence Number 8, and placed the booklet in front of Kuangliu.

”Someone else has taken your spot.”

Kuangliu glanced at it calmly, then his eyes narrowed slightly, and he let out an almost imperceptible sigh.

Kuangliu’s political acumen was quite sharp. Seeing Fang Bai had taken his place, he quickly deduced what had transpired.

Crucially, Kuangliu didn’t know that Fang Bai had only pretended to defect from the military. This had led Kuangliu to previously hunt Fang Bai with lethal intent! The clash of principles, the betrayal by a brother—only Kuangliu himself could truly comprehend the entanglement of these issues.

...

”By the way, is this booklet the latest edition?” Wen Yu asked Jake while flipping through it.

Jake nodded. ”This booklet was printed three days ago and only reached my hands yesterday.”

”Tsk, tsk. The power gap has widened quite a bit,” Wen Yu remarked. He sighed, set the booklet aside, and took a small sip from his glass.

Wen Yu and Kuangliu had been trapped in the Demon Town Tower for a month. They had no idea how much the world had changed during that time, nor whether their strength was still competitive or if they had fallen behind!

That was the crucial point!

The booklet clearly indicated one thing: only the top four in the Sequence had reached Level 5 or above. Sequence Number 5, Claire, was currently only at Peak Level 4! Further down, no one below Sequence Number 30 had even reached Peak Level 4; their physical fitness was generally around 400 points.

This was the most important piece of information Wen Yu had gleaned: his own strength still held an overwhelming advantage within the Human Race!

Undeniably, although the Demon Town Tower ordeal had been agonizing, the rewards were quite substantial. At least, strengthening up inside was much faster than it would have been outside!

Just as the few of them were idly chatting, the communicator in Kuangliu’s hand rang again.
