Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 384: Chapter 18 Analysis_1

Kuangliu nodded. ”Interacting with her would indeed be the best approach. Claire will certainly be able to reach Sin City in three days. It will just be an inconvenience for Claus.”

Claus responded without showing any difficulty—or rather, he dared not show any. He kept nodding at Wen Yu and Kuangliu, saying, ”It’s my honor!”

***

After asking Claus for the direction of the former military camp and borrowing an item from him, Wen Yu left the Red Stone Hotel and headed towards the camp.

Combat Power Detector (A-Class item): Actively detects the target’s physical condition.

This was the item Claus had used to verify Wen Yu and Kuangliu’s identities.

Detection devices were common, the most prevalent being those that detected physical condition.

More advanced ones could even detect a target’s professionist information and the level of skills they possessed!

However, such items were quite scarce; at least, Wen Yu and Kuangliu didn’t have them.

As for even more advanced devices capable of detecting all of a target’s skills, Wen Yu had never even heard of such things—not even from Kuangliu or Lin Haifeng.

But these details weren’t important. To pull Wen Yu into a Dreamland and make him completely unable to distinguish it from reality would require a Power Level of at least Peak Level 4!

So, for Wen Yu, the Combat Power Detector he now held was sufficient.

***

The former military camp had been burned to ruins, with nothing of value left.

Furthermore, no survivors remained in the vicinity. It was a military restricted zone, and the large number of military deaths had long ago led nearby survivors to consider it an ominous place. After everything of value was taken from the camp, no one frequented the area anymore.

He searched the ruins for half a day but found no valuable information. Wen Yu decisively turned and began to wander aimlessly, while lines of information scrolled rapidly across his glasses.

”DING. Early Stage Level 3.”

”DING. Peak Level 1.”

”DING. Early Stage Level 1.”

All sorts of information flooded Wen Yu’s vision, but he found nothing useful.

Several hours later, Wen Yu returned to the Red Stone Hotel in disappointment, had a casual dinner, and went straight back to his room.

***

Night fell.

The bright moonlight gradually spilled onto the earth.

Wen Yu held a glass of red wine, savoring the moonlight outside. He summarized all the intelligence he had obtained that day, while ideas flickered in his mind.

Last night, the first Dreamland lasted the longest! But now I realize that Dreamland felt very unreal. The second and third Dreamlands differed little from reality! Or perhaps there was no difference at all, yet they were very brief.

So, it seems the more realistic the Dreamland environment the unknown entity creates, the shorter its duration. Therefore, I can almost confirm that I am currently in reality.

However, the most crucial point is...

What does the unknown entity want to do?

This was the core issue. Only by knowing the adversary’s objectives could countermeasures be devised; otherwise, every plan would be useless.

Wen Yu pondered the three Dreamlands from the previous night.

The first Dreamland seemed to be a simple nightmare. However, it had some unusual features: the giant light-figure that appeared at the end and the cat’s meow.

The second Dreamland seemed more like a prank.

The third Dreamland, however, conveyed many things that seemed useless on the surface but were, in fact, deeply meaningful.

As Wen Yu carefully recalled everything that happened in the third Dreamland, the confusion in his eyes deepened.

Are they trying to tell me something, or...

Wen Yu squinted, his mind racing.

After a while, Wen Yu swallowed the last sip of wine, lay down on the bed, relaxed his mind, and slowly drifted into sleep.

Since he couldn’t figure out the unknown entity’s goal, Wen Yu decided he would just have to try again. He couldn’t avoid sleeping forever. Besides, this entity might be a divine beast with Dream Ability that bore no malice.

To capture this divine beast, Wen Yu didn’t mind experiencing a few more Dreamlands.

Even if it harbored malice, Wen Yu wouldn’t mind confronting it in a Dreamland. He admitted his chances of defeat were high, but this was a risk he had to take!

In Wen Yu’s eyes, the risk was directly proportional to the potential rewards!

Then, he had a good night’s sleep.

***

Early the next morning, Wen Yu stared at the ceiling and yawned helplessly.

Last night, he had slept soundly and hadn’t dreamed at all. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, it was already daybreak.

As for whether he was in a dream now, Wen Yu truly wasn’t sure.

But when dreams and reality are indistinguishable, does it really matter?

Such philosophical questions had always been taboo for Wen Yu—he hadn’t forgotten that he was a reborner...

After getting up and freshening up, Wen Yu ate breakfast and then went to find Claus.

”By the way, I forgot to ask you something yesterday. Where is Yang Hong now? Also, what is his combat style like?”

Claus was in his office, listening to a subordinate’s report on the previous day’s earnings. Upon hearing Wen Yu’s question, he immediately replied, ”Yang Hong is at No. XX, XX Street in the South District; it’s said to be his family’s old house. He is a Summoner. Based on my observations, Yang Hong probably doesn’t possess Illusion or Dream Ability.”

Wen Yu nodded and turned to leave.

Originally, Wen Yu and Kuangliu’s objective had been to contact the American military, so finding Yang Hong had seemed pointless. But now that these Dreamland incidents had occurred, Wen Yu felt compelled to visit Yang Hong.

At least, as Sin City’s most powerful leader and professionist in the public eye, Yang Hong should know something about this matter.

***

When Wen Yu arrived alone in the southern district of Sin City, Yang Hong had already been informed and had dispatched one of his key subordinates to welcome him.

This was a tall, powerfully built black man in the Middle Stage of Level 4. The shining steel armor he wore made him look imposing.

According to Claus, the entirety of Sin City was effectively Yang Hong and Annie’s territory; the stated divisions into districts like South, East, North, or West were largely nominal. Yang Hong might have received news as soon as Wen Yu made contact with Claus. After all, Wen Yu hadn’t intentionally concealed his identity, and Jake, captain of the Special Ops Team, had also met Wen Yu and Kuangliu in person.

So, Yang Hong’s reaction was not surprising.

Following the black man along a winding route, it didn’t take long for Wen Yu to arrive at the entrance of Yang Hong’s residence.
