Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 379: Chapter 13 Black Cat_1

Wen Yu shook his head.

Talking to Claus about these things was like trying to explain rocket science to a toddler; utterly pointless.

Wolves, by nature, are intelligent creatures. A mutant wolf at Peak Third-level has intelligence not far removed from a human’s. Initially, when this mutant wolf stepped out of the iron cage, Wen Yu immediately saw its eyes.

A terrifying killing intent flared within the crimson of its eyes, which momentarily intimidated Wen Yu despite his Peak Level 5 strength.

From that gaze, Wen Yu discerned many things...

Humiliation, pain, and a savage desperation born from the certainty of death!

Wen Yu had seen such a look before—it was in Cyclops’s eyes after Simba had toyed with him, forcing him into a desperate counterattack!

One party, with a playful attitude, treated it as a game whose outcome they believed was already decided, while the other was engaged in a fight of utter desperation, having burned all their bridges!

And the result did not surprise Wen Yu.

The mutant wolf lay on the ground, covered in wounds, blood streaming relentlessly from its nose and mouth.

Meanwhile, the Overlord was raising both hands, accepting the cheers from the audience...

The killing intent in the mutant wolf’s eyes reached its peak!

The next second...

The mutant wolf’s lower body abruptly exploded into a cloud of blood, the force of the blast propelling its enormous wolf head to clamp down on the Overlord’s head!

A sickening CRACK resounded as blood splattered everywhere. In less than a second, the Overlord’s shiny black head was bitten clean off, blood spraying in all directions. After delivering this final blow, the mutant wolf collapsed and breathed its last.

Mutual destruction...

Wen Yu swirled his wine glass, smiled at Claus, and said, ”See? What did I tell you?”

Meanwhile, Claus, his eyes wide with shock, clapped his hands and laughed boisterously, ”Excellent! Fucking perfect! A draw, so the house takes all! Perfect! I’ve hit the jackpot!”

Watching the cheerful Claus, Wen Yu sighed helplessly. ”Damned capitalism...”

Claus, his face alight with elation, took his leave from Wen Yu, likely rushing off to count his winnings. Before departing, he handed Wen Yu a card, explaining that it could be used for any expenses at the Red Stone Hotel, all of which would be charged to Claus’s account.

Wen Yu readily accepted it.

Savoring his wine, Wen Yu watched one arena match after another, yawning from boredom.

After the battle between the Overlord and the mutant wolf, the subsequent fights were mere trifles. The strongest competitors were two Early Stage Third-level professionists engaged in a regular match—the kind where fatalities were forbidden.

Although the scene looked fierce to outsiders—flashing swords and occasional sprays of blood—Wen Yu could tell that the two on stage were merely going through the motions. For them, it was just a job.

After several more tedious fights, Wen Yu felt he was just wasting his life. He yawned disinterestedly, then rose and headed out.

The battles in the skill competition arena had not yet concluded. The announcer continued with the program, ”Next up, let’s give a warm welcome to our Red Stone Arena’s veteran who has fought a hundred battles and suffered a hundred defeats, but never gives up—our ultimate fighter, Karl! And his opponent, this month’s most dazzling newcomer, Andy!”

The roaring applause, mingled with sporadic boos, made Wen Yu glance over his shoulder.

Unfortunately, they were just two average Third-level professionists. To Wen Yu, there was nothing worth seeing.

He casually waved the card in his hand and said to a nearby waitress in broken English, ”Take me to your best room. And prepare dinner to be sent there.”

The waitress gave Wen Yu a suggestive smile. ”Lord Klaus has already prepared it for you. Is there anything else you require, sir?”

Wen Yu looked her up and down, then shook his head decisively. ”No, thank you.”

「...」

「Outside, darkness was gradually falling.」

The Las Vegas Assembly Site at night was like a ghostly, desolate domain. Yet, amidst this profound silence, the Red Stone Hotel stood out like a beacon, the brightest star in all of Las Vegas.

Powerful professionists approaching the Red Stone Hotel could hear raucous sounds emanating from underground—the Red Stone Arena was located beneath the hotel.

In a dark and gloomy alley beside the Red Stone Hotel, a gentle night breeze stirred. Then, a shadowy figure slowly emerged from the depths of the darkness.

As if out of nowhere, this indistinct shadow appeared in the empty alley.

It was a black cat...

Its glossy fur shimmered with a mysterious luminescence. In its emerald-green eyes, two crescent-moon marks were visible, along with a profound depth that mirrored an endless starry sky.

Then, the black cat, with elegant strides, slipped directly into... the sewer.

The sewer system was a labyrinthine network. The black cat moved as if it frequented these tunnels, its form flickering rapidly, and it reached its destination in no time.

That place was a connection to the drainage system of the Red Stone Hotel kitchen.

Foul sewage gushed continuously. A flicker of human-like disgust crossed the black cat’s eyes. Then, a light flashed over its body, and its entire form instantly transformed into a beam of violet light, phasing through the drainage pipe and into the Red Stone Hotel.

Neither Wen Yu nor even Claus knew that the Las Vegas Assembly Site, now renamed Sin City, hadn’t earned its new name simply because of the rampant crime. There was another reason.

And Sin City, at night, did not belong to humans...

「...」

「At that moment, Wen Yu was enjoying a lavish dinner in the luxury suite of the Red Stone Hotel.」

Star and Cyclops were rolling around on a soft bed, making strange noises.

In this seemingly harmonious scene, Wen Yu abruptly felt a chill run through his body.

The chill came and went quickly, vanishing in an instant as if it were an illusion. Wen Yu slowly raised his head, a puzzled expression on his face as he looked out the window.

Outside the window, there was nothing.

”Did you guys sense anything?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, Star and Cyclops, still on the bed, both shook their heads.

Frowning, Wen Yu chewed on his food while mumbling unclearly, ”Something feels off, but I can’t quite figure it out...”

”I know, I know, Boss! You must want to mate!” Cyclops declared, eyes wide and serious.

”Get lost!”

”I know! I know!”

Wen Yu fixed Star with a ”stern” look, threatening, ”If you say something useless, I’ll put you in confinement for three hours!”

Star gulped hard, looking guilty, and managed to stammer out a single sentence.
