Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 370: Chapter 5 3-Minute ’World’_1

”Um...” Wen Yu began, looking hesitant.

Seeing Wen Yu’s expression and Cyclops’s impatient eyes, the sophisticated Old Sam instantly understood. He first glanced at the German Shepherd lying outside, then at the magic crystals in Wen Yu’s hand, before saying hesitantly, ”It won’t be life-threatening, right?”

”No, absolutely not. Dog Bro may be ugly, but he’s very gentle.”

Cyclops simply adjusted his vocal cord structure and uttered a lewd sentence, then, ignoring Old Sam’s shocked expression, darted out.

In an instant, the German Shepherd’s wail of pain echoed out.

Wen Yu, with a helpless expression, looked at the distressed Old Sam and silently took out five more Third-level magic crystals. At the same time, he comforted him, ”Maybe he’ll leave you a puppy. My battle pet is quite strong; his offspring will be quite powerful. Don’t dwell on it...”

Wen Yu patted Old Sam on the shoulder, feeling utterly helpless regarding Cyclops.

A month in the Demon Town Tower had nearly driven Cyclops mad.

「...」

After a simple dinner, Wen Yu, holding Star, went straight into their room.

The room was small, with only two single beds, one of which was Old Sam’s.

After a quick wash, Wen Yu lay motionless on the bed and soon fell asleep.

「...」

First thing the next morning, Wen Yu and Kuangliu quickly washed up. After breakfast, Old Sam decided to take them to Las Vegas.

Old Sam’s small wooden cabin wasn’t far from the Las Vegas Assembly Site, which was the fundamental reason he could live there alone with just a dog.

It had been over five months since the apocalypse began. The territories of humans and mutant beasts had long been clearly demarcated: humans wouldn’t casually venture far from their assembly sites, and large-scale mutant creatures wouldn’t attack human assembly sites either.

Don’t assume that mutant creatures go out of their way to cause trouble for humans. Mutant creatures’ Perception Ability regarding danger is much stronger than that of humans. Moreover, the instinct to not easily approach humans has long been deeply ingrained within mutant beasts. After all, humans have been the dominators of Earth for so long; they still possess that much deterrent power.

Furthermore, the advancement of mutant beasts not only doesn’t cause them to lose their sanity but actually enhances their intelligence. Coupled with the fact that the wilderness has already formed its own food chain for mutant creatures, few high-level mutant beasts are willing to interact with humans unless absolutely necessary.

「...」

The roar of an engine constantly thundered. From behind the small wooden cabin, Old Sam drove out a large, modified off-road vehicle.

The car body was gleaming, exceptionally well-maintained. However, from another perspective, its gleam also meant the vehicle had been stored away for a long time.

Old Sam explained with a chuckle, ”Gas prices in town are quite high these days. My Second Baby hasn’t been out in a long time.”

His ’Second Baby’ referred to the old man’s vehicle.

Indeed, if Kuangliu hadn’t reimbursed him for the gas, Old Sam’s Second Baby wouldn’t be making an appearance today.

And his First Baby, naturally, was his German Shepherd.

The Third-level German Shepherd was currently circling Cyclops relentlessly, its fawning expression so obvious it seemed almost tangible, even to Wen Yu.

Cyclops, on the other hand, in his miniature state, remained as still as a stone sculpture, completely ignoring the German Shepherd’s fawning. His seemingly solemn expression actually concealed a great deal of helplessness.

”Let’s go, get in the car!”

Wen Yu, with Star perched on his head, waved at Cyclops. Cyclops immediately perked up and, in a streak of grey light, darted onto Wen Yu.

As the car slowly started, Cyclops glanced sorrowfully at the German Shepherd left behind to guard the house, then turned his head and let out a long sigh.

This little vixen, she’s too damn clingy... The old saying is right: ’There are no barren fields, only exhausted oxen.’ Dog Bro, in all my glory, was almost done in by a German Shepherd... Boss, I nearly walked into the tomb of marriage! I need comfort...

”Scram!”

Wen Yu angrily gave Cyclops a rap on the head.

Last night, the ’battle’ between Cyclops and the German Shepherd could only be described as earth-shattering. Initially, the German Shepherd’s pleas for mercy were incessant, but then the situation gradually changed...

Early the next morning, Wen Yu saw a numb-looking Cyclops standing by the door, with the German Shepherd relentlessly trotting behind him, whimpering softly.

This scene made Star collapse with laughter, and even Old Sam was left with an expression of utter helplessness.

「...」

The journey to the Las Vegas Assembly Site wasn’t particularly long. However, plants grew rampantly along the way, so even though it was almost November, the verdure of the land had yet to fade.

It had to be said that this greenery was perhaps the only good thing the apocalypse had brought.

Unfortunately, this rampant plant growth created numerous inconveniences for vehicles. According to Old Sam, on the current roads, anything other than off-road vehicles—cars with low chassis—was completely unable to traverse them. Even with an off-road vehicle, Old Sam frequently had to get out and clear the weeds tangled in the tires.

Meanwhile, Wen Yu and Kuangliu were in the vehicle, discussing their strategy for after entering the Las Vegas Assembly Site.

Yesterday, the two had already gathered a lot of information and inquired in detail about the distribution of power within the Las Vegas Assembly Site.

The Las Vegas Assembly Site could currently be described with a single word: chaotic.

With the military no longer managing affairs, the entire Las Vegas Assembly Site had become a massive battlefield—a battlefield for human civil war.

All sorts of unsavory characters were recruiting people and seizing territory, each aspiring to become the overlord of Sin City.

This was inevitable. With the collapse of law and order, existing powers were bound to face a reshuffle. This was tantamount to a reorganization of social strata; anyone with a bit of ambition would inevitably strive to rise to the top.

And after three long months of struggle, three key players had emerged, each amassing a large group of supporters and their own territory: Mama-san Annie, Lord Klaus, and Yang Hong!

Mama-san Annie of the East Zone—the city’s biggest madam, involved in ’special services.’

Ordinarily, a madam could never possess the power to dominate an entire zone. However, this woman was exceptionally resourceful. She directly roped in the military’s Special Ops Team as her enforcers, which allowed her to completely rule the East Zone.

Lord Klaus of the West Zone—owner of the Red Stone Hotel, the city’s largest Cave of Gold. This was, in fact, Klaus’s enterprise. Of course, the breeding farm Old Sam managed also belonged to Klaus’s territory. He had a large group of enforcers under him, all quite capable.

Yang Hong, leader of the North and South Zones—the Ultimate Independent! With his strength alone, he controlled the order in half of Sin City!

This was the current power distribution in Sin City—a peculiar tripartite ’dominion.’
