Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 391: Chapter 25 Taking the Initiative_1

Night fell.

Wen Yu was in his room, quietly watching the night outside.

Cyclops and Star were playing on the big bed.

Everything seemed to be as usual.

At least in the eyes of others, everything was normal.

However, through their spiritual connection, Wen Yu was communicating rapidly with his two soul pets.

”Listen carefully to what I’m about to say. You two, just act normal, do whatever you’d usually do. Don’t show any surprise. I strongly suspect we’re under surveillance right now.”

”This is a trap. From the very first dream I had, I fell into it!”

”I’m still not sure who set this trap for me. But one thing is certain: Annie is the main culprit. Whether Kuangliu and Claire, or the American and Cathay militaries are involved, remains unknown.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Cyclops, while chewing on one of Star’s small horns, initiated the spiritual communication.

”Boss, can’t we just take them out?”

”No. The Night Daemon Smilodon, Las Vegas’s divine beast, is caught in their trap. We have to save it. When I made contact with the Night Daemon Smilodon just now, it told me its plan.”

”So, I have a mission for you...”

「...」

Wen Yu lay quietly on the bed, constantly communicating with the Moonlight pendant on his chest.

The name of this Moonlight pendant was quite apt—Forget.

To forget what one wished to forget.

And Wen Yu’s choice was to forget the truth...

Just as Yang Hong had once done.

The scene of his communication with the Night Daemon Smilodon, the images of truth the Night Daemon Smilodon had conveyed, and a fragment of his own Spiritual Fluctuation—Wen Yu poured all of it into Forget.

Then, Wen Yu felt his mind go blank. What surfaced in his memory was not the cause and effect of the whole affair, but a beautiful face—Annie...

”Annie.”

Wen Yu murmured, his voice filled with a faint longing and yearning. Then, he slowly drifted off to sleep.

Beside him, Cyclops and Star seemed oblivious; only deep within their eyes could one vaguely discern a trace of worry. This plan is too risky... and this trap is too bizarre...

Las Vegas is a pool of murky water, its depths unfathomable!

「...」

Wen Yu had a dream.

In the dream, Wen Yu was a child born in Las Vegas, growing up strong under his parents’ loving care.

He also had a childhood sweetheart...

She was an exceptionally beautiful and gentle girl named Annie...

Elementary school, middle school, university—they were always together. So, naturally, they became a couple.

They understood each other, loved each other, warmed and relied on each other, and then built a family of their own.

Everything was perfect.

Unfortunately, the apocalypse descended!

When the zombies, baring fangs and claws, charged at them, Annie forcefully pushed Wen Yu away, sacrificing herself to their sharp teeth and claws.

Pain and despair washed over Wen Yu like a tidal wave.

At that moment, a colossal, shadowy figure suddenly appeared before Wen Yu.

”Do you want to resurrect your lover?”

Wen Yu, his voice cracking with despair, shouted, ”Yes, I want to!”

”Then, are you willing, even if it means sacrificing everything?”

”I am willing! I! Am! Willing!”

”As you wish...”

The next second, Wen Yu abruptly awoke.

「...」

”HUFF! HUFF! HUFF!”

Wen Yu panted heavily, cold sweat pouring from his forehead and drenching his cheeks.

”Boss, what’s wrong?”

”Boss!”

Star and Cyclops were also startled awake by Wen Yu. A trace of pain and sympathy flashed in their eyes, but they remained silent.

Wen Yu’s eyes seemed unfocused as he looked around blankly.

Outside, the sky was beginning to show the first light of dawn.

Suddenly, Wen Yu’s eyes lit up. As if possessed, he began muttering incessantly. He quickly dressed, rushed into the bathroom to wash up, then grabbed Cyclops and Star and bolted towards the entrance of the Red Stone Hotel!

「...」

Annie’s residence was far from the Red Stone Hotel.

As soon as Wen Yu exited the hotel, he grabbed the first-floor lobby manager and demanded a ride to Annie’s residence.

The lobby manager on the first floor naturally recognized Wen Yu and strictly carried out his request.

Soon, a luxurious stretch Lincoln was parked in front of the Red Stone Hotel. The lobby manager respectfully opened the car door for Wen Yu. After Wen Yu entered the car, it slowly started and then sped off into the distance.

「...」

Kuangliu stood at his room’s window, watching the car drive off into the distance, and sighed softly.

What a pity. Such formidable combat strength, yet it cannot be utilized by the military...

Then, Kuangliu picked up the communicator from the table and dialed a number.

After a moment, a voice came from the other end.

”What’s wrong?”

”Wen Yu is heading to Annie’s manor. Make sure you’re well hidden.”

”Understood. It seems the plan is proceeding smoothly.”

Hearing the relaxed tone of the woman’s voice on the other end, Kuangliu’s brow furrowed deeply.

”Don’t relax. The spiritual imprint isn’t deep enough yet. Be careful during this time, and do not reveal any connection to Annie! That way, even if the plan fails, we can plausibly deny any involvement. Also, remind Annie, repeatedly: do not reveal any trace of our participation!”

The voice on the other end was silent for a long time before finally responding slowly, ”Understood.”

Hearing this, Kuangliu finally hung up, went into the bathroom, and began to wash up.

For Kuangliu, this was merely the beginning of a new day.

「...」

Annie’s manor was located on the outskirts of the city.

Although Annie’s own strength was low, she had a military background, so the manor’s security was beyond question.

The vast manor was teeming with fully armed soldiers. Among them were members of the Special Ops Team originally stationed in Las Vegas, as well as personnel Claire had brought.

As the car reached the entrance, the driver turned to Wen Yu and said, ”Sir, this is as far as we can go. This is actually a military restricted zone; our vehicle cannot enter.”

Hearing this, Wen Yu silently nodded, got out of the car, and walked towards the manor’s main gate.

「...」

The guard at the gate was a military serviceman who, of course, recognized Wen Yu.

Upon seeing Wen Yu approach, the guard first gave Wen Yu a standard military salute, then asked, ”Sir, is there something I can help you with?”

”I’ve come to see Annie.”

A hint of tension undercurrented Wen Yu’s otherwise calm tone. Moreover, the constant darting of his pupils revealed his far from tranquil mental state.

However, these subtleties were lost on a mere soldier guarding the gate.

”Please wait a moment.”

The guard said to Wen Yu, then returned to the guardhouse and used a communicator to contact those inside.

After a while, the guard emerged from the guardhouse, smiled, and nodded at Wen Yu.

”Sir, please follow me.”

「...」

The manor grounds were extensive, and its decor was quite beautiful.

Before long, the soldier leading the way stopped. He pointed towards an elegant house ahead and said to Wen Yu,

”Sir, Lady Annie is inside. I will not accompany you further.”

Wen Yu nodded. ”Thank you.”

With that, Wen Yu quickened his pace and headed towards the house before him.

「...」

Pushing open the main door, he was met with a sea of flowers.

The room was filled with unmutated or slightly mutated flowers, creating a scene as enchanting and beautiful as a fairyland.

At the same time, a melodious piano tune drifted to his ears, its rhythm crisp and clear, mingled with the faint, alluring scent of flowers and perhaps perfume.

Gently setting down Cyclops and Star, who were in his arms, Wen Yu whispered, ”Wait for me here.”

Then, treading lightly, Wen Yu moved towards the source of the piano music.

As if possessed, Wen Yu remained completely oblivious to the caution and murderous intent in the eyes of Cyclops and Star, who trailed behind him.

「...」

In a room on the second floor, Wen Yu saw Annie again.

Dressed in a long white gown, Annie exuded a purity reminiscent of a lotus flower. As her slender fingers danced rapidly over the piano keys, melodious music filled the air. Music and beauty, the scent of flowers and the breathtaking view—a warm current spread through his chest.

At that moment, Wen Yu was utterly intoxicated...

It was as if he were immersed in a soft sea of flowers, as if he had forgotten the entire world, as if... he were sliding into an abyss!

After a moment, the piano music abruptly ceased.

”Did you like it?”

Wen Yu, his eyes glazed over, nodded lightly.

”What’s its name?”

”A Maiden’s Prayer.”

”Oh, by the way, what brings you here?”

Looking at Annie’s smiling face, radiating warmth, the scene before Wen Yu’s eyes suddenly overlapped with the warmth from his dream...

Taking gentle steps, Wen Yu slowly approached Annie and then lightly took her soft, seemingly boneless hands.

”I missed you...”

Memories, or perhaps dreamlike visions, surged forth. From the depths of Wen Yu’s mind, countless scenes of his time with Annie uncontrollably surfaced. Instantly, these memories ensnared him like a vast net.

Wen Yu’s gaze grew increasingly hazy, increasingly vacant. Then, a potent surge of emotion welled up in his eyes.

The next second, Wen Yu embraced Annie tightly, as if wanting to merge her into his very being.

”We’ll never be apart again, okay?”

”Mmm...”

A soft sound escaped Annie’s lips, hidden from Wen Yu’s view. A flicker of struggle and pain crossed her eyes, but this barely perceptible emotional tremor quickly faded...

Then, Wen Yu tightly clasped Annie’s waist, and their lips met.

Shreds of the white gown scattered like petals.

The most primitive desire erupted, instantly engulfing Wen Yu’s senses and will...

Then, everything unfolded naturally—in the piano room, in the bedroom, on the balcony...

The sounds of flesh and spirit intertwining echoed endlessly.

He experienced her warmth...

She experienced his firmness...
