Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 365: Chapter 153: The End (End of Volume 3)_2

”Yes, sir!”

The two of them saluted Lin Haifeng in unison and then turned to leave.

...

「Three days later.」

Fang Bai stood in what used to be Peng Jun’s office at the Demon Capital Assembly Site, gazing out of the window at the scenery outside.

The clamor outside had long since quieted down. A day earlier, when the military’s main forces, led by Fang Bai and Vermilion Bird, arrived at the Demon Capital Assembly Site, they had encountered no significant resistance. The majority of the stationed troops at the Demon Capital Assembly Site were military personnel. At most, some high-ranking officers had been bought off by Peng Jun. Winning them over was simple. Besides, with Peng Jun and Yang Pengguang dead, the Demon Capital Assembly Site had few powerful experts left. Even the Cannibal Battalion, which Peng Jun himself had established, had vanished without a trace.

Behind Fang Bai, faint footsteps sounded.

”Mission accomplished. No traces of those Cannibals remain in the Demon Capital Assembly Site. We’ve killed some, but likely not all of them,” came the report.

”Let’s leave it at that then. Thanks for your efforts, Xiao Xue.”

Xiao Xue shook her head. She walked quietly over to Fang Bai, took his hand, and said gently, ”I knew you wouldn’t betray the military, Fang Bai. You’re the one who’s truly worked hard during this time.”

Fang Bai smiled and shook his head, merely tightening his grip on Xiao Xue’s hand.

”You’ll stay this time, won’t you?”

”Yes, I’m not leaving this time.”

”That’s great.”

...

Outside the Demon Capital Assembly Site, a pale-faced, middle-aged man in a grass-green robe watched the military troops moving in and out. A flicker of terror crossed his eyes. It’s over. The Demon Worship Sect is over. Peng Jun is finished too! At this thought, the Cannibal immediately activated Teleportation. He paid no mind to the energy consumption and, in a short time, teleported into a hidden cave.

The cave wasn’t large, but it was filled with other pale-faced Cannibals.

Seeing the green-robed man return, hundreds of pairs of eyes stared intently at him, desperate for an answer from their leader.

Unfortunately, the green-robed man could only shake his head helplessly.

”We failed...”

A hush fell over the cave. After a long moment, a voice finally broke the silence, ”So, what should we do now?”

The green-robed man’s face was grim as he gently shook his head. ”I’m sorry, everyone. We make too big of a target if we stay together!”

The moment he finished speaking, the green-robed man Teleported several times in quick succession and vanished from their sight.

Only these true ’forsaken ones’ remained, staring at each other in dismay.

Then, a figure slowly rose from among the Cannibals.

”I have an idea... We can’t stay in the country anymore. After this, Lin Haifeng will absolutely not let us go. There is only one path left for us now...”

”What path?”

Under hundreds of pairs of eyes, the figure slowly removed his hood.

”We could go to Treasure Island... There won’t be too many professionists there, and their strength can’t be that great. With our strength, we’re more than capable of surviving there! If you brothers trust me, I, Li Quan’an, wish to brave these difficult times together with you all, striving to survive in this damn world!”

The others pondered his words for a long time before someone finally spoke up, ”It’s worth a try. In Cathay, we’re like rats scurrying across the street, hunted by everyone. We can’t survive here. We might as well go and try our luck in Treasure Island!”

”Yes, let’s go to Treasure Island.”

Hearing the increasing murmurs of discussion and agreement from below, Li Quan’an allowed himself a faint smile.

Then, someone spoke up, ”For such a long journey, I think we should choose a leader. Li Quan’an seems like a good choice. He’s reliable, meticulous in his work, and his strength is considerable.”

”Yeah, I agree Li Quan’an would be good. He’s usually quite generous!”

”It doesn’t matter to me who leads.”

Listening to the discussions, Li Quan’an smiled faintly and waved his hand with the air of a leader. ”I haven’t been with the Demon Worship Sect for long, so for me to be the leader might...”

Before Li Quan’an could finish, several Cannibals below interjected, ”Brother Li, this is a critical moment! You were the first to step forward and show us a clear path. I believe you’d be a perfectly fine leader!”

”That’s right, Brother Li! Don’t refuse!”

These few voices of support swayed more and more people. When the majority of the Cannibals agreed that Li Quan’an would be a good leader, he no longer demurred.

After a simple meeting, the Cannibals set out for the coast under the cover of darkness.

...

The issue of the Demon Worship Sect was swiftly and thoroughly resolved through the joint efforts of Lin Haifeng and Sequence Number 1.

As the opening of the Demon Realm’s Gate drew nearer, the entire world—humans and mutant beasts under the leadership of divine beasts alike—entered an eerie period of calm, bracing for the even more violent storm to come.

...

In Mudanjiang City, Wang Zhigang was organizing his group, packing their belongings, large and small, to leave their hometown and head for the Yanjing Assembly Site. This was a suggestion from Wen Yu before he departed, and Yanjing had already sent word.

”Uncle Wang, can we see Brother Wen Yu when we go to Yanjing this time?”

Hearing Zheng Ye, Wang Zhigang nodded decisively. ”Definitely.”

”I just wonder if your Brother Wen Yu will be surprised to see that you’ve already become a Third-level Professionist.”

Hearing Wang Zhigang’s words, Zheng Ye’s eyes instantly brightened, as if he could already picture Wen Yu’s astonished expression. In Zheng Ye’s heart, Wen Yu was his idol and his goal.

At the very rear of the large migrating contingent, a man with a sallow complexion trudged along mechanically, caked in mud from head to toe. He incessantly mumbled something, like a madman.

...

In an ordinary residence within the outer city zone of the Yanjing Assembly Site, dozens of variously dressed professionists were feasting and drinking boisterously. Wanping, beaming as he sat at the head table, was frequently approached by guests offering toasts.

Wanping had arrived at the Yanjing Assembly Site early. Unfortunately, his lack of influential connections prevented him from finding any news of Wen Yu. Consequently, he had reverted to his old trade: becoming a gang leader and, in the process, establishing a vast intelligence network. With Wanping’s Level 4 strength, establishing a power base in the outer city zone was exceedingly simple!

Perhaps after the ’death’ of Wan’an’s dead soul, Wanping’s mind had cleared considerably, allowing him to recognize the disparity between himself and Wen Yu. Accumulating power—whether his own or his subordinates’—that was the most sensible choice! The current Wanping was in no rush. Truly, no rush at all.

...

Meanwhile, Wen Yu and Kuangliu were on the 85th floor of the Demon Town Tower, enduring the seemingly endless ”Horror Trial.”

”Please catch 50 mutant bees within 30 seconds. Start now!”

Gazing at the myriad flying insects filling the space, Wen Yu and Kuangliu exchanged a helpless glance.

”To get out of here, it’ll likely take at least a month.”

”Yeah, I’ve resigned myself to it. I just hope the old man has other contingency plans.”

”Fortunately, the rewards so far haven’t been too bad. Otherwise, wasting a whole month here would be truly unbearable.”

Wen Yu’s hands moved ceaselessly, his reflexes sharp as he snatched several mutant bees. In under thirty seconds, he and Kuangliu had cleared this level of the Demon Town Tower and were ascending to the next.
