Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Regarding the last hunt, Chen Wen’s goal was very clear.

That is big prey, all big prey!

Like reindeer and moose.

As for grizzly bears and black bears, they are not within his consideration.

Because with the change in weather, snow deepens, and it’s hard to find the hibernation grounds of grizzly bears and black bears.

Also, in places with extremely deep snow, Chen Wen cannot use his speed advantage to tangle with grizzly bears.

So he didn’t consider hunting grizzly bears.

Therefore, upon arriving in the forest.

Chen Wen set the eagle flying to search for deer herds.

In this weather, moose spend most of their time deep in the forest, not easy to find.

But North American reindeer are different, they prefer open areas in such weather.

Relying on his understanding of reindeer, Chen Wen had the eagle watch those open areas.

As per Chen Wen’s instructions, after flying for a while, the eagle indeed found reindeer in a large open area.

This herd of reindeer was very large, and the eagle roughly estimated about sixty heads.

A formidable sight, the ground they passed was marked with numerous deep pits in the snow.

After determining the direction and location of the reindeer’s movement, the eagle immediately turned and flew toward Chen Wen.

Conveying all the intelligence about the reindeer to Chen Wen.

Upon hearing the news brought back by the eagle, Chen Wen immediately sat cross-legged in the snow and used branches to map out the current situation in the snow.

”This herd of reindeer came from further north, it seems they should be feeding and looking for more groups, you just mentioned the terrain and their route, I estimate they might come here.”

Chen Wen softly traced a line in the snow with a wooden stick, representing the reindeer’s path: ”They should be heading for the mountain ridge, looking for food and a tribe that can accept them.”

The eagle squinted silently, unable to make such a precise judgment.

The old wolf pawed at the snow beside them, without expressing any opinion.

Making predictions at this time, frankly, is quite a risky behavior.

They couldn’t be sure that Chen Wen’s prediction was the route the reindeer would take.

Seeing the two animals silent, Chen Wen decided for them: ”Since you all remain silent, I’ll take it as your consent!”

”Eagle, you keep an eye on the deer group, the old wolf and I will directly go to the mountain and see if we can ambush them there, taking them by surprise!”

Chen Wen made a decision, and the two animals quickly executed.

The eagle, puzzled, spiraled up intending to verify if the reindeer would head to the open mountain ridge as Chen Wen predicted.

While the old wolf followed Chen Wen to the predetermined spot for ambush.

...

In the high sky.

As the eagle’s wings tore through the air, its keen eyes constantly observed the deer herd.

Ahead of the reindeer group, the leading reindeer both guided and surveyed the direction to proceed.

The snow was extraordinarily deep along the journey, the deer group showing signs of fatigue.

Thus the leading reindeer decided to follow the genetic instinct.

They needed to lead the herd to areas richer in food, in the high mountain region.

There, the snow was comparatively shallow, and they could find their favorite food—reindeer lichen, also known as reindeer moss.

After briefly assessing the terrain, the leading reindeer emitted series of calls, announcing the decision to all reindeer.

Soon, under their guidance.

The reindeer leisurely headed towards the mountain Chen Wen envisioned.

The eagle watched as the moose shifted direction slowly, unable to help but let out a couple of screeches.

”This is too outrageous! They truly headed up the mountain slope as Chen Wen thought!”

The eagle swirling in the air, suddenly dove down.

It gently landed on a tree, examining the reindeer herd continually.

Selecting the most suitable prey for hunting.

...

Over at Chen Wen’s side.

He tapped the wooden boards, advancing quickly on the snow.

Unsure of the reindeer’s speed, he moved at his own fastest pace.

About two hours later.

Chen Wen finally reached the mountain slope before the reindeer, preparing an ambush along the ridge.

”Seems we arrived not too late, the reindeer aren’t here yet.”

Chen Wen placed the long spear and stone spear in the most accessible spot while watching the situation down the mountain.

In the forest beyond, the silhouettes of the reindeer were faintly visible.

At that time, the eagle also flew overhead at the mountain ridge.

Circling persistently, apparently searching for Chen Wen.

Chen Wen emerged from cover, blew a loud whistle to catch the eagle’s attention.

”Finally found you!”

The eagle flapped its wings, landing next to Chen Wen.

Saying excitedly: ”How did you manage this? These reindeer are just as you said!”

The old wolf also seemed curious.

Chen Wen smiled: ”Simple prediction, really. Every winter the reindeer migrate south, it’s costly on their journey, whenever they encounter a ridge, they go up, since their favorite reindeer moss grows there, plus the slopes have less snow, it makes finding food easier.”

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s analysis.

The two animals were thoroughly convinced.

”Human wisdom is truly terrifying!”

This was the old wolf in awe.

”Hey, if I had Chen Wen’s wisdom, I could surely be the king of the sky!”

The eagle couldn’t help but dream a little.

Chen Wen smiled subtly, thinking the golden eagle and the snowy owl might just sort the eagle out.

...

After chatting with the animals for a while, the deer herd gradually arrived at the mountain slope and began to climb along the ridge.

It must be said, the reindeer’s physical prowess is quite outstanding.

At a rather steep slope, the reindeer lined up, approaching from below, with a strong push from their hind legs, easily hopping up.

These reindeer moved neither fast nor slow, seeming quite leisurely.

However, they remained unaware that as they climbed, Chen Wen had locked his target.

”Look, the ones at the front are not suitable.”

Chen Wen indicated, pointing at the robust reindeer: ”They appear to have a lot of meat, but their speed and reaction are swift, making them difficult to hunt!”

”But the ones behind, look, especially that one!”

Chen Wen pointed at the reindeer climbing the slope.

This reindeer, whether weakened by age or other reasons.

It clearly struggled as it climbed!

On that particularly steep slope, it took six attempts to barely make it up.

”It’s the one!”

With bright eyes, Chen Wen determined the fate of this reindeer.

Beside him, the old wolf squinted, brimming with killing intent, and the eagle scraped its sharp claws against the snowy ground ready for action.

Soon, the reindeer herd arrived slowly at the mountain slope under Chen Wen’s fierce gaze.

As they reached the slope, they began trampling over it.

With their unique eyes and sense of smell, reindeer could locate their favorite food beneath the snow.

Therefore, they used their hooves and heads to clear the snow, revealing the ground beneath where they sought their food.

On the slope, snow was relentlessly swept aside by the reindeer herd as they climbed ever upwards, searching for food.

From his ambush, Chen Wen’s mouth twisted into a grin.

The opportunity was here!
