Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 606: Chapter 105: Coyote

Chen Wen crushed some of the dried red mushrooms and fed them to the ground squirrel.

He sat nearby to rest, waiting for the ground squirrel toxin detector to take effect, while watching the old wolf and the eagle continue to hunt animals on the island.

This island is quite large, about the size of two football fields, with plenty of trees and vegetation.

After waiting for a while.

The ground squirrel was still lively.

Chen Wen did not kill the ground squirrel but released it back into its burrow.

To be honest, the ground squirrel was somewhat confused.

Its hibernation was disturbed, caught by a strange large animal, fed some tasty treats and then released back.

This bizarre experience...

Never again!

The ground squirrel thought, trembling slightly in its burrow.

...

In the next seven or eight days, Chen Wen’s life became more routine.

Ice fishing one day, exploring the surrounding islands with the eagle and a random animal the next.

This went on for seven days.

During those seven days, Chen Wen collected two types of mushrooms, one being the previously found red mushroom, which he did not eat out of caution.

The other was a new type of boletus, which Chen Wen also stored.

Waiting to eat later.

On the morning of the eighth day.

This should have been the day to explore the island with the eagle.

But Chen Wen changed his plan.

He called on the wolf mink, took his weapons, and planned to explore around the camp.

”Last night, I did some thinking.”

Facing the camera, Chen Wen explained his plan: ”Over the past few days, I have neglected to patrol around the camp. Last night, I heard some animal sounds, so today I plan to patrol around the camp with the wolf mink to prevent any animals from occupying this area after the grizzly bear’s death.”

”Although this place is not particularly rich, it still has some decent resources for the animals, so we can’t ignore this.”

That being said.

But the fundamental reason for Chen Wen’s patrol was the news brought back by the red fox yesterday.

While guarding the bear meat, it sensed a very dangerous presence.

However, when the old wolf was about to take over the watch, the animal lurking in the dark did not show its head.

That animal seemed to have left the area.

But the red fox was very clear that the animal would not leave so easily, as it had already set its sights on the bear meat!

Hence, Chen Wen’s patrol today.

Bringing the wolf mink to the forest clearing where the grizzly bear’s body was, Chen Wen had the wolf mink search for the threat the red fox had mentioned.

...

When Chen Wen and the red fox were searching for threats.

Closer to him was Hua Yun.

Hua Yun lay in the shelter, organizing bows and arrows.

”These days my shelter is completely built, but the food reserves are decreasing rapidly, barely enough for seven or eight days even if rationed.”

”It’s time to find more food!”

Hua Yun spoke with excitement flashing in her eyes.

Hunting is Hua Yun’s favorite activity.

This time Hua Yun’s hunting target was set to the south.

A few days ago, while exploring the south, Hua Yun discovered a herd of musk oxen.

It wouldn’t matter much if it were just musk oxen, as she felt she lacked the skills to hunt musk oxen from a herd.

What attracted Hua Yun’s interest was the large pack of North American gray wolves following the musk oxen!

Though this wolf pack appeared somewhat... dispirited, they are genuinely capable of hunting musk oxen.

Therefore, Hua Yun planned to make use of the wolf pack, attempting to snatch some musk ox meat from them.

Or even some wolf meat.

Today was her first attempt.

Upon seeing Hua Yun’s actions, the show’s crew, Luo Yao was not surprised.

After Hua Yun discovered the musk ox and wolf packs, Luo Yao had anticipated today’s situation.

To be honest, for Hua Yun to get this opportunity.

Luo Yao felt she had to thank Chen Wen.

Due to the proximity of their survival areas, by comparing videos, Luo Yao easily saw that this group of musk oxen and North American gray wolves was the same one Chen Wen had encountered.

”Quite the coincidence.”

Watching from the side, Lin Jiawei smiled and said, ”The musk oxen that Chen Wen attacked before had now escaped to Hua Yun’s area.”

Luo Yao smiled and said, ”It’s quite normal. Before the rise of wilderness survival with this advanced technology, the competitors were often very close, with some even purposefully driving their prey towards their survival areas to avoid them getting pushed to a rival’s area.”

”This time, Hua Yun indeed benefited from Chen Wen’s actions. Without Chen Wen’s aggressive hunting, the musk ox herd would have likely gone elsewhere, and the wolf pack wouldn’t have fled their territory to migrate elsewhere.”

At this point, Luo Yao sighed inwardly.

Chen Wen’s aggressive hunting style was truly shocking.

Even the musk ox and wolf herds were intimidated enough to flee the area they had lived in.

Truly...

Powerful!

...

Relying on the signals left before, Hua Yun quickly found the resting area of the musk oxen.

They were now resting on a relatively steep hillside.

Due to the sparse trees on the slope, Hua Yun dared not move recklessly and could only observe from afar.

At the same time, a pack of hunters was also watching the musk oxen from the high ground of the slope.

It was the same North American gray wolf pack, once the old wolf’s group.

At this moment, following a change in leadership, a strong North American gray wolf had temporarily united the pack.

Yet the morale of the pack was extremely low.

The death of the leader and comrades, hunger, and the cold were putting survival pressure on this pack of North American gray wolves.

They were worried.

Worried about surviving this winter.

Thus, the new leader urgently needed a hunt to restore the pack’s confidence.

During this time, the new leader had been pressuring the musk oxen, driving them to this steep slope.

The musk oxen were large and clumsy.

If they continued downwards, with the slope almost seventy degrees, a slight misstep could be fatal!

Thus, the musk oxen dared not move forward.

But with the wolves blocking them from behind, and demoralized from Chen Wen’s hunting, the musk oxen dared not engage the wolves rashly.

Thus, the two sides reached a stalemate.

The wolves were smart, planning to maintain the standoff until hunger compelled the musk oxen into restlessness, then target the old and weak.

But the musk oxen were not foolish either.

Eyeing a chance to break through the wolves’ blockade themselves.

Thus, both sides were on the brink.

This was the opportunity Hua Yun sought.

To snatch food from the wolves’ hands.

Touching the hunting bow, Hua Yun’s expression was resolute.

This time she was determined to leverage the bow and arrow’s advantage to the fullest!

...

Back to Chen Wen.

At the spot where the grizzly bear ”lay resting,” the wolf mink indeed found some peculiar scents.

”Look, here is what it left behind.”

The wolf mink stopped in front of some excrement.

Seeing the blackened excrement, Chen Wen frowned slightly: ”A carnivore.”

The excrement was black, with bits of bone and animal fur.

A typical carnivore’s excrement.

It wasn’t too large, but not small either; seemingly bigger than the wolf mink.

A coyote?

Or a larger wolf mink?

Chen Wen had a suspect in mind.

Then he turned to the wolf mink: ”Try to track it down, see if you can find it.”

Upon hearing this, the wolf mink let out a low howl and began searching.
