Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 610: Chapter 109: The Coyote’s Hidden Secret

Dragging the coyote back to the shelter, the old wolf also surrounded it.

Under the oppressive presence of the old wolf, this coyote finally settled down.

It now had its tail tucked between its legs, limbs hanging down, as if dead, being dangled by Chen Wen.

”Is this what’s been secretly watching the red fox?”

The old wolf, seemingly having never seen a coyote before, curiously remarked, ”Looks like a malnourished wolf cub.”

That wasn’t wrong.

North American grey wolves start at a weight of fifty kilograms when adult, with the largest reaching up to eighty kilograms.

While adult coyotes only weigh twenty to thirty kilograms at most.

This coyote was particularly skinny, indeed looking a bit like a grey wolf pup.

”This coyote should be a subspecies, looks quite a bit like you.”

Chen Wen spoke, observing the coyote.

As if sensing Chen Wen’s gaze, the coyote immediately showed a pleading look, seemingly begging for mercy.

This scene...

Chen Wen instinctively glanced at the red fox, which bashfully turned its eyes away.

This guy, still shy.

Chen Wen chuckled, turning his head towards the coyote.

Not being a special animal, it couldn’t communicate; taming it would be a bit difficult.

Requires time and effort.

If it were earlier, Chen Wen wouldn’t spend such time and effort for the taming entries.

After all, the quality of the taming entries wasn’t very high.

Not at all as good as the entries gifted by animal friends.

But now, Chen Wen wasn’t lacking in time, and had nowhere to expend his energy.

So Chen Wen contemplated taming the coyote.

He thought for a moment, then asked the red fox to fetch some raw meat from the storeroom.

At the same time, Chen Wen showed a gentle and compassionate expression, saying slowly to the coyote, ”Although you can’t understand me, I still have to tell you: Listen to me from now on, and there’ll be food. Got it?”

Feeling Chen Wen was speaking, the coyote displayed even more of a pleading expression.

Fine, for dealing with such non-special animals, physical gestures work best.

Chen Wen shook his head.

After the red fox brought the raw meat, Chen Wen dangled the raw meat in front of the coyote.

The coyote’s pleading expression changed.

It looked at the raw meat with greed, but also with confusion.

But what made it confused was yet to come.

After shaking the raw meat, Chen Wen placed the coyote on the ground.

He wasn’t worried at all that the coyote would run away, because opposite Chen Wen, the mighty old wolf was lying on the ground, curiously eyeing the coyote.

The coyote wouldn’t run; if it dared,

the old wolf, whose physical condition was gradually recovering, could easily pin it down.

The coyote felt its chances of escape were very slim.

Thus, it stayed trembling, with its tail tucked, between Chen Wen and the old wolf.

To be honest, it couldn’t be blamed for being timid.

Any creature would tremble facing the imposing presence of Chen Wen and the enormous old wolf.

But Chen Wen didn’t show malice towards the coyote; instead, he placed the raw meat in front of it.

”Eat.”

Chen Wen said, pointing at the raw meat.

A gesture suggesting the coyote to enjoy its meal.

What’s happening here?

The coyote was completely befuddled.

Did this terrifying bipedal creature capture it just to give it meat?

Then why not give me bear meat!

The coyote hesitated, tested a bit, and ultimately, unable to overcome its desire for meat, slowly stretched its slender snout towards the raw meat.

Chen Wen observed this and nodded slightly.

Eating the meat indicated it felt his goodwill.

After all, a system function in Chen Wen’s body also provided – [Friendliness].

[Friendliness: When facing animals, your goodwill is easier for them to sense]

This coyote indeed sensed Chen Wen’s friendliness.

But because of the overwhelming oppressiveness Chen Wen displayed while capturing it,

the [Friendliness] only stopped the coyote from trembling.

But it still greatly feared Chen Wen.

However, with Chen Wen’s persistent efforts, the coyote eventually gripped the raw meat in its mouth.

”Eat, just eat.”

Chen Wen instructed again, signaling the coyote to swallow the raw meat.

But to his surprise,

the coyote clasped the meat but didn’t swallow it immediately, instead continuing to gaze at Chen Wen with a pleading look.

Huh?

This time, it was Chen Wen’s turn to be puzzled.

He curiously stared at the coyote: ”Why aren’t you eating? Why not?”

The question directed at the nearby old wolf and red fox.

In response, the old wolf shook its head, not understanding the coyote’s intentions either.

The red fox was the same.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and asked the red fox to try communicating with the coyote.

But despite the red fox’s efforts, the coyote consistently ignored it, only looking at Chen Wen with pleading eyes, while tightly clutching that roughly one-pound piece of raw meat.

”Well, I can’t figure it out.”

Chen Wen sighed, slightly frustrated.

It wasn’t a special animal, and the [Whisper] was inactive.

He had no clue what was on this coyote’s mind.

Feeling helpless, the old wolf suddenly spoke: ”Does it want to go out?”

Go out?

On hearing the old wolf, Chen Wen noted that the coyote indeed had an intention of wanting to go out, but with the old wolf around, its legs were trembling too much to stand.

”Old wolf, step back a bit, and see what it really wants to do.”

At Chen Wen’s words, the old wolf and the red fox stepped aside.

They went to the edge of the camp, observing the situation here.

Chen Wen wasn’t too concerned about the coyote escaping; at his speed, the coyote might not even outrun him, even in the forest.

After the red fox and old wolf backed away, the coyote adjusted itself for a while.

A moment later, it finally stood up.

Nervously glancing at the old wolf, the coyote slowly began moving.

After walking about two meters, it stopped again.

It turned its head to look at Chen Wen.

Now Chen Wen understood.

It wanted him to follow it.

”Old wolf, watch the house, Red Shadow, you come with me to see what it means.”

Chen Wen said, waving his hand at the red fox.

Soon, the red fox followed up.

The coyote glanced at the red fox but seemed unbothered.

Seeing Chen Wen catching up, it continued to walk forward.

In the following time, Chen Wen and the red fox followed the coyote, weaving through the dense forest.

About an hour later, in the northeast direction of the shelter, the coyote slowly came to a halt.

Before Chen Wen was a vast rugged hillside.

”There are quite a few rocks here, hadn’t noticed this place before, hmm... why did it bring us here?”

Chen Wen was a bit perplexed.

But tying this to the raw meat the coyote carried without eating, he conceived a possibility.

And the coyote also placed the raw meat on the ground, howling a few times at the hillside.

This action further confirmed Chen Wen’s suspicion.

He exchanged glances with the red fox, it seemed to have a similar thought.

The man and the fox shared outstanding rapport.

They spoke simultaneously.

”Could this coyote still be raising pups!”

”It must be bringing food for its mate!”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen was exasperated: ”What are you thinking? Bringing food for its mate?”

The red fox sheepishly replied: ”Just guessing, I heard from the eagle, after its wife had babies, they would take turns bringing food back to the nest.”

It guessed right, just don’t guess next time.

Chen Wen shook his head, shifting his gaze to the hillside.

After calling for about half a minute,

Chen Wen suddenly noticed a few small shadows creeping out from behind a large boulder on the hillside.

They were coyote pups!
