Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 607: Chapter 106: Muskox vs. Wolves

The Wolf Mink’s sense of smell remained reliable.

Before long, it found the second trace of unfamiliar animals in the dense forest.

”Here!”

The Wolf Mink gestured for Chen Wen to look at the bush under a large tree.

Chen Wen glanced over and noticed frozen ice near the tree roots, with traces that were quite subtle.

”That thing’s urine, looks like it passed here not long ago, huh? Is this fur?”

Inspecting the somewhat withered bush, Chen Wen plucked out some gray fur.

After a brief check, Chen Wen confirmed the creature watching the red fox.

”Coyote, looks like a mature coyote, hmm, indeed a bit troublesome.”

Chen Wen shook his head.

If left unchecked, this coyote would definitely find a chance to steal some bear meat.

With the Wolf Mink and old wolf guarding the bear meat, it certainly wouldn’t dare to approach.

But red foxes were different.

The red fox’s fighting ability was far inferior to the coyote’s; if the red fox were ambushed by the coyote, it would either be injured or killed!

”Troublesome, isn’t it?”

The Wolf Mink bared its teeth: ”Shall I go take care of it?”

”Not so fast.”

Chen Wen stopped the Wolf Mink, saying, ”Coyotes are extremely alert and cunning animals. If you attack and fail, this guy will either flee, never to come back, or become our enemy and ambush the red fox. In short, it’s troublesome. It’s better to find a chance to kill it outright!”

For the safety of his camp and the animals, Chen Wen placed great importance.

Therefore, this suddenly appearing coyote must be completely dealt with.

He pondered for a moment and temporarily formulated a plan.

However, this plan was somewhat risky, and it depended on whether the red fox agreed.

The plan naturally was to use the red fox to lure the coyote out.

After thinking it over, Chen Wen immediately returned to camp to discuss the matter with the red fox.

...

While Chen Wen was devising a plan to kill the coyote.

Over at Hua Yun’s side.

The musk oxen also made a move.

Facing the blockade of the wolf pack, this herd of musk oxen decided to actively break the stalemate, tearing a gap in the blockade to escape.

Soon, under the leadership of the musk ox herd leader.

They formed a stance previously used to resist wolf packs, with the male musk oxen in front, the others behind, gathered together, and slowly approached the wolves.

Seeing this scene, the wolves emitted various howling sounds.

Some wolves growled softly, while others howled long and loudly.

In short, after a burst of eerie cries, the wolf pack surrounded the approaching musk oxen slowly.

The musk ox leader, the big musk ox, used its old method.

It slightly stepped out of formation and suddenly charged toward the nearest gray wolf.

Facing the musk ox’s sudden attack, the North American gray wolf seemed to have been prepared.

It turned swiftly, dodging the big musk ox’s assault.

And the big musk ox didn’t intend to pursue.

After easily chasing away that North American gray wolf, it stopped where it was, waiting for the herd to catch up.

Seeing this, the wolves let out another cacophony of cries.

And the big musk ox, relentlessly, continued to open a path for its herd with its strong physique.

The wolf pack didn’t dare to confront head-on; they split into two groups: one restrained the male musk ox’s attention in front,

while the other circled to the side, looking for a suitable target.

Soon, a relatively young musk ox caught the wolf pack’s attention.

This musk ox appeared strong, but the keenly perceptive gray wolves detected that its body seemed slightly weak.

It looked as if it were sick.

After a series of howls, the wolf pack focused on this musk ox.

They weren’t worried about disease from the meat, as their digestion was exceptionally robust.

With the target locked, the wolf pack began their action.

The wolves in front suddenly relinquished their predation, clearing a path.

The big musk ox saw the path clear and sped away unhesitatingly.

The musk oxen in the back followed quickly.

But since the male musk oxen were at the very front, being strong, they ran fast, soon distancing themselves from the musk oxen behind.

The musk oxen in the back chased for a while but couldn’t catch up, ultimately consisting of the old, weak, and sick.

Having given up on the strong male musk oxen, the wolf pack immediately attacked the musk oxen at the rear.

They howled, suddenly approaching, and when the musk oxen tried to stop for a confrontation, quickly sidestepped.

Distracting!

Under the wolf pack’s distracting maneuvers, the musk oxen’s formation became increasingly chaotic.

In the chaos, the musk ox targeted by the wolves gradually fell to the last.

Led by the new wolf leader, the strong North American gray wolves finally revealed their sharp claws and teeth.

Accompanied by fierce cries.

The wolf pack swarmed in, launching an attack on the sick musk ox.

Seeing their companion under attack, the musk oxen didn’t gather to retaliate.

Instead, they abandoned the sick musk ox, just as they had the old ox earlier.

In fact, stopping and confronting the wolf pack again might have been a chance to repel them.

But the big musk ox had been terrified by Chen Wen’s previous hunting, now afraid to linger.

With heavy, disordered footsteps.

The fortunate musk oxen that escaped sped away, distancing themselves from the wolf pack.

About a few hundred meters away, the herd stopped, staring at the musk ox left behind.

No one knew what they felt.

After a silent moment, the big musk ox led the remaining herd away to find more musk oxen and form a new group.

....

The abandoned musk ox felt utterly hopeless.

It struggled under the wolf pack’s siege.

When the wolves in front charged, it lowered its head to respond.

But the wolves behind took advantage of its lowered head, launching an attack.

Claws and teeth aimed at its body, each attack drawing blood.

When the musk ox shook to deal with the wolves behind,

the wolves in front pounced again.

No chance of survival!

The sick musk ox mournfully cried, life rapidly slipping away.

Hua Yun was also seeking an opportunity at this time.

She approached the slope’s gentle side, slowly ascending from there.

But she dared not expose herself.

After all, Hua Yun lacked the ability and courage to face the entire wolf pack alone.

Just then.

Feeling life rapidly slipping away, the musk ox was unwilling to die so easily.

It suddenly let out a furious and extreme low growl, making one last stand.

The musk ox turned quickly, ignoring the wolves behind, and charged toward the steep slope.

This musk ox planned to use the slope to shake off the wolves behind.

The North American gray wolves seemed to sense the musk ox’s intention.

They released the musk ox but closely followed.

Soon, the musk ox arrived at the steep slope.

With no intention of slowing down, it charged headlong down the slope.

Such a fierce musk ox!

Everyone witnessing this was moved.

The musk ox managed to stabilize at first, but as it reached the upper part of the slope, the steepness and its body’s inertia accelerated uncontrollably.

The musk ox’s steps became chaotic, eventually tumbling down the slope, bringing rocks with it.

A rumbling sound echoed through the slope.

The wolf pack, seeing this, excitedly howled.

They followed along the side slope, intending to encircle the musk ox that had fallen to the cliff below.

On the side slope, Hua Yun, witnessing this, promptly hid in the forest below the cliff.

She concealed herself, planning to ambush the wolf pack.
