Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 601: Chapter 100: Preparing for Ice Fishing

”That’s amazing!”

Watching the video of Chen Wen taking a bath, Greg sighed and leaned back in his chair.

Chen Wen is really something!

That sense of relaxation doesn’t match wilderness survival at all!

Bathing in this weather, and not freezing.

Isn’t that a bit outrageous?

But compared to the surprised Greg.

Lin Jiawei remained calm.

He had seen an old man in a municipal city next to the capital, wearing swim trunks, jumping into a river in the snow, and it wasn’t just once or twice.

But this act by Chen Wen reminded Lin Jiawei of the feeling he had when watching Chen Wen survive before.

During this survival, Chen Wen had been so steady that he didn’t seem like himself.

This winter swim was a return to his usual style.

Seems like our contestant is really relaxed now!

Lin Jiawei sighed, not knowing whether this was good or bad.

But since he was about to get off work, he didn’t think much about it.

Passing by Vic’s area.

Lin Jiawei paused to watch for a while.

Vic had endured a full day of hardship and now finally...

Caught up with the moose.

This moose didn’t have much strength left.

After being shot twice, it completely lost the energy to flee.

The extensive blood loss also left the moose in a severely weakened state.

At this moment, the moose stood in a clearing in the forest with no energy left to escape.

Even standing, it felt unsteady.

Vic was the same way.

But he was slightly better off than the moose.

At this moment, Vic took out his weapon—a dagger—and slowly approached the moose.

He gripped the dagger tightly in his right hand, staring at the towering creature in front of him.

The moose panted heavily, its hot breath turning into white mist as it exhaled.

In the moose’s eyes, there was vigilance mixed with a hint of pleading.

Vic diverted his gaze.

He circled around to the moose’s back, thrust the dagger into the moose’s side chest, and made a deep cut.

Then he quickly backed away.

The moose, knowing it couldn’t escape, welcomed death.

After letting out a long, mournful cry, it collapsed with a thud.

Finally dead!

Excitement flashed in Vic’s eyes, but also caution.

The moose’s dying cry might attract some predators’ attention.

And at this moment, Vic was deep in the dense forest, entirely disoriented.

It was now completely dark.

Returning to the shelter was not really possible.

Now, Vic was presented with two choices.

Either leave the moose untouched, leave it to fate, and see if he could last until morning.

Or risk being discovered by predators, skin the moose, and wrap himself in its hide to get through the night.

Then take the moose back the next day.

Vic was a decisive and ruthless person.

Without hesitation, he took out the dagger and started skinning.

After fully stripping off the moose’s hide, Vic continued to butcher the moose and placed its chunks of meat in different corners of this forest, covering them with fallen branches and leaves.

After completing all this, he wrapped himself in the moose hide and climbed up a tree.

The thick moose hide was the best insulator against the cold.

Feeling the warmth, Vic let out a slow breath and, with his eyes half-closed, began to rest.

Seeing Vic like this, Lin Jiawei couldn’t help but shake his head.

Look at someone else’s contestant...

Really pitiful!

Compared to the hardship-ridden Vic, Chen Wen hunted animals at an incredible pace.

That gray bear, black bear, both were killed by Chen Wen in an extremely short time.

The only one that took a bit longer was that musk ox.

At this time, Vic’s assistant finally relaxed.

Glancing back at Lin Jiawei, he nodded and asked, ”Wanna grab a meal together?”

”Sure, no problem.”

Lin Jiawei agreed.

Over these few days, the relationships among contestants’ assistants had become quite close.

But Vic’s assistant asked one more thing, ”What did Chen Wen do today? Did he continue hunting?”

Lin Jiawei had nothing to hide: ”Not really, he just made a perch for the Eagle in the shelter, and took a cold bath in the Great Slave Lake.”

”Oh, huh?”

Vic’s assistant looked at Lin Jiawei in bewilderment, ”Bath?”

”Yeah, said there was a bit of a smell on him...”

Lin Jiawei replied, noticing Vic’s assistant’s resentful expression, he instinctively lowered his voice.

Finally, Vic’s assistant sighed deeply, ”Go ahead and eat by yourself, I’ll wait a bit longer.”

After Lin Jiawei left.

Vic’s assistant looked at Vic, hiding under the moose hide, smeared with foul grease, and couldn’t help but sigh.

What a difference, really big!

...

Thirty days.

First examination.

Chen Wen met with the program’s doctor, a doctor with a large waistline, who came to see Chen Wen.

He briefly checked Chen Wen’s condition and weighed him.

The doctor nodded: ”Qualified, weight down about ten kilograms.”

Ten kilograms lighter!

Chen Wen took a sharp breath, muttering to himself, ”I need to replenish properly later, to have lost so much this time, the most I’ve lost in survival before was about five kilograms.”

The doctor didn’t understand Chen Wen’s words and thought he was worried about his weight, so he comforted him, ”Don’t worry, before coming here, I measured many contestants’ weights, and yours is the second least reduced.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded.

After sending off the doctor, he rubbed his head.

While taking a bath yesterday, he also trimmed his hair with a hunting knife and shaved, feeling quite refreshed now.

”Mm, it’s time to prepare for ice fishing.”

Chen Wen said, excitement flashing in his eyes.

He’s heard of ice fishing before.

But this would be his first time trying it.

He felt quite eager.

”We’ll craft some fishing hooks today, and we can try ice fishing tomorrow!”

...

Meanwhile, on Vic’s side.

After struggling through a night on the tree, as soon as it dawned, Vic jumped down immediately.

He inspected the moose meat around him.

As expected, the moose chunks had been tampered with.

Last night, he had a sense of it.

But due to the darkness and unclear situations, Vic did not dare to come down to drive them away.

He could only close his eyes and pretend not to hear.

Now he inspected closely and quickly identified the animal meddling with his meat—Wolverine.

”Luckily it’s a Wolverine, didn’t eat much, otherwise... hey, what’s this?!”

Vic suddenly noticed a spot of ice on the chunk gnawed by the Wolverine.

He instinctively reached out and removed the icy patch.

Could it have rained last night?

No, even if there was precipitation, it should’ve been snow!

As Vic pondered, the icy patch melted in his hand, releasing an unbelievably foul odor.

Vic’s face turned green.

Damn!

Wolverine’s urine!

Vic had previously heard about Wolverines’ unique method of preserving food.

His lips twitched slightly, decisively leaving behind the chunks polluted by Wolverine.

”Let’s carry these uncontaminated pieces first.”

Vic sighed.

After roughly orienting himself, he started carrying the meat towards the shelter.

This journey took two hours.

Back at the shelter, Vic was already exhausted.

After undergoing the doctor’s examination.

He rekindled the fire, boiled some moose meat, and ate some to restore his strength.

Simultaneously, before darkness fell, he went to retrieve another batch of moose meat.

Anyway, with a reserve of moose meat, Vic finally settled down.

He clawed his way from the brink of elimination to above the passing line.

As for Chen Wen, on the thirty-first day of survival, he completed the crafting of the fish hooks and assembled the fishing line.

Ready to start ice fishing anytime.
