Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 350: Chapter 21: Fishing, But for Crocodiles

Hunting Nile crocodiles is actually not uncommon.

You can find many related videos just by searching on most video platforms.

This is because the Nile crocodile population is stable and is not considered an endangered species globally.

Especially in the countries of Africa.

For foreign exchange, some countries allow the commercial hunting of Nile crocodiles.

Of course, the ones hunted are the larger Nile crocodiles.

Hunting these large Nile crocodiles not only doesn’t impact the stability of the Nile crocodile population, but also makes life for indigenous and native peoples along the river safer.

After all, the Nile crocodile is a ferocious carnivore with a considerable number of recorded attacks on humans.

Many locals, after having a limb bitten off by a Nile crocodile, often spend the rest of their lives in pain and inconvenience.

The local government naturally doesn’t have a good attitude towards these large Nile crocodiles.

Nor do the local residents.

However, when hunting Nile crocodiles, video bloggers often use modern weapons.

Such as shotguns and compound bows.

These weapons can easily penetrate the thick armor of a Nile crocodile.

But there are not many who hunt using close-quarters cold weapons.

Therefore, when Chen Wen’s words spread, it caught the attention of almost everyone in the show’s camp.

Even some monitors who were watching other contestants couldn’t help but split their screens.

One side was Chen Wen’s footage, and the other was the footage of the contestant they were responsible for monitoring.

Abel was even excited, holding a bag of air-filled potato chips, crunching away.

...

”To lure the Nile crocodile, you need bait.”

After returning to the camp, Chen Wen began preparing for the Nile crocodile hunt.

”For bait, I plan to use the Egyptian Catfish entrails thrown around the camp yesterday, as well as a whole roasted Egyptian Catfish.”

As Chen Wen spoke, he used a stick to take out a roasted Egyptian Catfish.

The entrails he carried directly by hand.

Due to the temperature, the Egyptian Catfish entrails had already started to emit a slight odor.

The fishy smell mixed with the stink made Chen Wen squint his eyes: ”Goodness, this stuff is really pungent! In the wild, the stink is also a scent that can attract beasts, let’s see how many Nile crocodiles it can lure.”

Taking these things to the riverbank, Chen Wen began preparing the items needed for hunting.

”This time, I didn’t bring a rope. Actually, if I had one, it could be tied with the bait using a slipknot to lure the crocodile to bite the bait and then tie up the crocodile’s mouth. This method is used by crocodile hunters in many places.”

”For instance, in shows like ’Crocodile Kingdom’ and ’Swamp Hunters’ that used to air on the educational channel, the hunters would use loops to secure the mouths of alligators, making them shut up, preventing them from causing injury.”

”The destructive power of a crocodile is almost entirely concentrated in its mouth. Once you can make it shut, hunting crocodiles becomes very simple.”

As Chen Wen spoke, he took out his reed rope, giving the online viewers a glance.

”But unfortunately, my rope is too thin and short, making it hard to tie up a crocodile’s mouth, especially considering the greater strength of a Nile crocodile, this rope is even harder to control. So, this time, I’ll have to take risks and cannot use the rope.”

Despite calling it a risk, Chen Wen did not seem to have any sense of nervousness.

After all, with various skills under his belt, if he were to get bitten by a Nile crocodile on land,

Chen Wen felt he would have to see a neurologist next.

”Since there’s no rope to control the Nile crocodile, this time I plan to use the bait to lure it far onto the shore.”

Chen Wen gestured around ten meters from the shore: ”Here, at this distance, as soon as the Nile crocodile comes over, it’s dead meat!”

Quite confident!

Watching the screen, the contestant assistants were all awed by his aura.

Although hunting Nile crocodiles on the shore isn’t difficult, as long as you grasp the distance and the fore-motion of the Nile crocodile’s actions, the hunt can be completed.

But currently, videos of close-quarters cold weapon hunting of Nile crocodiles are almost impossible to find.

Sufficient to illustrate how high the risk of this activity is.

Yet Chen Wen stood there calmly, holding a long spear in his left hand and gesturing with his right.

Not like he was hunting a Nile crocodile, but more like he was planning to pierce a clumsy turtle with the long spear.

If he fails, that’s fine.

But if he’s successful, the many assistants thinking about their own contestants facing this guy couldn’t help but shake their heads.

Look at Brad’s assistant over there,

he’s already opened the flight booking app.

...

Back to Chen Wen.

Preparations complete.

He began attracting the Nile crocodile.

There were quite a few Nile crocodiles in the river.

After placing most of the entrails and the catfish in the bait area, Chen Wen picked up the long spear and the remaining fish entrails and walked to the riverbank.

”Everyone can look at the water surface, those things that look like jagged logs sticking out of the water are the backs of Nile crocodiles.”

As he spoke, Chen Wen remembered a video he once watched on QQ Space.

Two goats discussing if the things in the river were logs or crocodiles, in a Central Plains accent version.

Back then, Chen Wen had laughed uncontrollably.

But little did he know then, he’d one day stand in front of those so-called log fragments.

Even intending to kill it.

”Nile crocodiles in the water often have parts of their backs and heads exposed because they need to breathe, absorb heat, and observe their surroundings.”

Chen Wen said, standing casually by the river, tossing the smelly catfish entrails into the water.

With a splash.

As the entrails hit the water, a strong fishy smell spread along the water flow.

Besides, the sound of the entrails hitting the water made these sensitive hunters realize that a feast had arrived.

Watching the group of Nile crocodiles floating on the water slowly sink, Chen Wen remained alert and explained their behavior: ”Floating crocodiles on the water surface are not aggressive in the short term. At this time, they are more like conducting pre-hunt reconnaissance.”

”But when the floating crocodiles slowly sink, like the group I’m facing now, that’s when you need to be careful!”

”Sinking often indicates they are entering a hunting mode. At this time, if you’re an ordinary person, I suggest immediately moving away from the water, maintaining vigilance.”

”But if you’re a crocodile hunter like me.”

Chen Wen, holding a javelin, advanced instead of retreating: ”I suggest stirring up this group of hungry and ruthless hunters a bit more, adding fuel to the fire, making them more excited.”

After gauging that the level of excitement was about right.

Chen Wen slowly retreated to behind the bait.

He planned to wait here like a crouching tiger, and once a crocodile was lured onto the shore, he’d launch an immediate surprise attack.

Using the javelin to pierce the crocodile’s vital point.

Let it die on the spot!
