Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 318: Chapter 7: Interlude

Chen Wen and Jiang Xue only exchanged a few simple words.

Contrary to Sun’s expectations, the two didn’t have many topics to discuss about animal care.

”By the way, how much have the animals eaten these days? I’ll transfer the money to you later.”

Looking at the situation of this zoo, Chen Wen felt that the zoo’s financial situation seemed not so good.

But Jiang Xue shook her head: ”No need, they haven’t eaten much anyway...”

Chen Wen remained silent, just quietly watching the barn owl bury its head into the pile of bugs.

”Ahem, okay, Sun, send Mr. Chen a copy of the bill later.”

Jiang Xue awkwardly tapped the barn owl’s head with her fingertip.

Causing the barn owl, who was enjoying its meal, to feel a bit displeased.

”Alright, but I haven’t found a way to relocate the animals yet.”

Feeling somewhat helpless, Chen Wen said, ”I’ll have to trouble you to take care of them for a while longer. I’ll transfer the money in advance. You know, I’m often not at home due to my work. If anything is missing, you can call this number.”

Chen Wen left Yan Bian’s phone number.

The relationship between Yan Bian and him was relatively close, and they had already discussed this matter.

Helping to cover the animals’ meal expenses, Yan Bian was quite willing.

Jiang Xue jotted down the number and nodded: ”Then I won’t bother you, Mr. Chen. You can enjoy the time with the animals.”

After speaking, Jiang Xue placed the bugs on the ground and said goodbye to the barn owl: ”Bye-bye, Little Grey Ji.”

The barn owl raised its head, made a sound, seemingly saying goodbye.

Once Jiang Xue finished her tasks, she waved to Chen Wen and let Sun push her out.

After watching them go away, Chen Wen finally relaxed and sat down.

”Little Grey Ji, that’s an interesting name.”

Chen Wen murmured, pondering how to help the barn owl lose weight.

After a while, Sun came in.

”How was it? What do you think of our director?”

Sun asked with a smile.

Chen Wen nodded: ”A very nice person. You can see it from the animals’ attitude towards her.”

Sun slightly nodded.

However, Chen Wen had a doubt, unsure whether to ask.

But the observant Sun noticed this.

He smiled and said, ”Director Jiang’s leg isn’t disabled, she just can’t stand or walk for long periods. She’s fine with daily activities.”

Chen Wen nodded slightly, deciding not to ask further.

”Alright, then you stay here and play with the animals. I need to take a patrol around. We’ll have iron pot stewed goose for lunch at the reception building.”

Sun laughingly said, ”The geese are raised by us, and the potatoes are stocked from nearby villages, ensuring authentic flavor.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen looked excited: ”Okay, okay, every winter I see the Northeast’s special iron pot stew online. This year, I can finally make it a reality.”

...

After Sun left, Chen Wen had a simple chat with the animals.

The gist was that he’d find a more suitable place in the coming days and move them there.

The animals all agreed.

Only the barn owl mentioned this place was nice too and hoped Jiang Xue could come along.

Chen Wen expressed that this was unlikely, leaving the barn owl a bit disappointed.

”Besides moving, I plan to leave for a while next year, when spring is near.”

Chen Wen said, ”I plan to visit central Africa for about a month, which is around thirty days.”

Upon hearing this, the snowy owl immediately asked, ”Is there anything I can help with?”

Chen Wen shook his head: ”That won’t be necessary; the place I’m going to is quite hot...”

Upon hearing this, the bobcat immediately looked over.

It’s fearless of hot places.

Chen Wen shook his head again: ”I’m also going to a dangerous place this time; there are many large predators there, like leopards, cheetahs, lions, and even more dangerous crocodiles and hippos.”

The animals didn’t understand what these names meant, so Chen Wen found some pictures to show them.

This even made the bobcat a bit nervous.

”So dangerous!”

The bobcat said, ”It’ll be hard to survive going alone, right?”

”It’s not that difficult. Humans have ways to avoid wild animals.”

Chen Wen said, ”And this time I have companions, won’t be surviving alone like before.”

The animals, though nervous, couldn’t offer any assistance under such conditions.

They could only advise Chen Wen to be careful.

Chen Wen stayed a while longer, then cooperated with the keeper to feed some food before leaving.

He walked along the zoo path to where he previously saw the golden pheasant.

By now, many people had gathered here.

Sun was also present.

Chen Wen went forward and asked, ”What’s this...”

”Oh, the forestry colleagues are here, intending to take them south for release.”

Upon seeing Chen Wen, Sun explained, ”They are loading the vehicles now.”

Just then, Chen Wen suddenly heard the forestry colleague responsible for catching the golden pheasant exclaim.

He looked closely and saw that the golden pheasant cornered seemed very frightened.

It had just pecked the forestry colleague’s hand, drawing blood.

This fella’s beak is really sharp!

Chen Wen thought to himself.

Seeing the forestry colleague appeared inexperienced with handling birds, he stepped forward: ”Let me help you.”

Speaking as he moved forward.

[Friendliness] triggered.

He softened his movements, reached out his hand.

The golden pheasant tilted its head, watching Chen Wen’s hand slowly approach.

This time, it didn’t show any particularly excited behavior.

Seeing this, Chen Wen took a step forward, gently touching the golden pheasant’s feathers.

The people around were a bit surprised watching this scene.

”Is he your rookie? Quite skilled!”

Rubbing his hand, the forestry colleague said with some surprise: ”But he does look quite familiar.”

Before Sun spoke, Chen Wen already caught the anxious golden pheasant in his hand.

After placing the golden pheasant into the cage, Chen Wen chuckled: ”I have a common face; it’s normal to look familiar.”

”Thank you.”

The forestry colleague smiled, loading the golden pheasants onto the vehicle.

Before leaving, he shared some cigarettes, chatting leisurely with Sun: ”You can relax this year; this batch of animals can catch the last package wave.”

”Indeed, but the park will feel lonely again.”

Sun shook his head.

Seemingly a bit reluctant about the animals that were about to leave.

The forestry colleague laughed and said, ”Your director is so stubborn; if it were semi-open, it wouldn’t be so lonely.”

”No talking now; he’s coming.”

Having said that, the forestry colleague smiled at Chen Wen, hopped into the vehicle, and drove out of the zoo with a foot on the accelerator.

When Chen Wen and Sun turned around, they saw Jiang Xue being pushed over by a middle-aged man.

Beside him was Liu Yu, smiling.

”Who is this?”

Chen Wen asked Sun in a low voice.

Sun whispered: ”Director Jiang’s father, Jiang Lin, a leader from the Animal Protection Association.”

Chen Wen realized.

After the three approached, Liu Yu cheerfully asked, ”How is it, Chen, did I find you a good place?”

Chen Wen praised generously: ”Such a responsible zoo is rare nationwide, and Director Jiang is especially kind-hearted, taking excellent care of the animals.”

His words made Jiang Xue slightly embarrassed.

”Jiang Xue has been interested in animals since childhood. I took advantage of my position to let her have fun here.”

Jiang Lin said, ”Come on, let’s treat our guest to authentic Northeast cuisine.”
