Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 316: Chapter 5: Reunion

Next, Chen Wen saw quite a few exotic animals, and even some invasive species.

”This is the red-eared slider turtle that the local forestry bureau caught, also known as the Brazilian turtle. It’s probably released by superstitious old ladies. Luckily, the forestry comrades stopped it in time and sent it here.”

Sun introduced a rather large Brazilian turtle and said, ”For invasive species like this, they are either humanely handled or sent back to their place of origin. But sending them back isn’t really necessary, so most of the time, they are humanely handled. The director is kind-hearted and feels that keeping one is the same as keeping ten. After some coordination with the forestry comrades, most invasive species are kept here until they naturally pass away.”

”This Brazilian turtle has been kept for over two years now.”

Chen Wen looked at the Brazilian turtle lounging comfortably in the bathtub and couldn’t help but nod.

”Up ahead is the free-range area, please change your clothes here.”

Sun led Chen Wen to change clothes: ”The free-range area is one of the few revenue-generating sections of the zoo, with poultry like chickens and ducks, and quite a few sika deer. These animals can be sold, and they are also a food source for some of the park’s animals.”

With that, Sun led Chen Wen into the free-range area.

The north side of the free-range area was a vast forest, with open grasslands in the middle.

In the center was a feeding trough for the animals, where other staff were placing food.

Seeing the two approaching, one staff member asked in surprise, ”Sun? Who is this?”

”A visitor, the animals delivered a few days ago are his.”

Sun said with a smile, ”Chen Wen, this is one of our zookeepers, Mr. Liu.”

”Hello, Mr. Liu.”

Chen Wen greeted with a smile.

Mr. Liu suddenly realized: ”So you’re the owner of those animals, hello.”

After a few pleasantries.

Sun continued to lead Chen Wen forward.

Chen Wen also looked at the free-ranging animals, and they were well-raised and very healthy.

”Beyond the free-range area is the glass house prepared especially for your animals.”

Sun said, ”The animals you boarded here are either good at flying or skilled at leaping and climbing, so the director put them all together in the glass house.”

”So far, they haven’t shown any signs of discomfort, let’s go take a look together.”

Chen Wen was pleased.

The two strolled up to a glass house, opened the door, and were hit by a wave of warmth.

”Even though these animals can adapt to winter, the director worried that the northeast weather would freeze them, so he turned on the heat.”

Sun explained.

At that moment, the animals dwelling in the glass house sensed the commotion.

The Golden Eagle and the Snowy Owl perched at the highest point.

Seeing a familiar face, they became excited.

The Golden Eagle suddenly spread its wings and darted toward Chen Wen.

Chen Wen quickly reacted, giving Sun a pull to avoid him being tackled by the eagle.

”Chen Wen! Haha, finally I see you! By the way, is your human society always so comfortable?”

That unique ”uncle” voice of the Golden Eagle instantly brought Chen Wen back to the Yukon.

The Snowy Owl was also quite content, fluffing its wings: ”This place is nice, but not very free; those humans won’t let us fly out.”

While speaking, the Snowy Owl deliberately looked at Sun.

Seemingly pointing at him.

Sun was now awkwardly rubbing the spot where Chen Wen had grabbed him: ”Thanks, but your grip is really strong!”

”Sorry, I was worried you’d be hit by the eagle, acted in a hurry, you’re not hurt, right?”

Chen Wen asked.

Sun shook his head: ”No, you pulled me just in time; if I had reacted slower, I might have been bruised.”

While talking, Sun noticed all the animals inside the glass house had woken up.

”Chen Wen!”

A loud call came from the Canadian Lynx, slightly excited.

A shadow flew towards him, and Chen Wen stretched out his arms to hold the Canadian Lynx.

”Whoa! You’ve gained weight!”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say.

Sun, beside him, chuckled, ”This guy is greedy, eats a lot here, I remember it well.”

Besides the Canadian Lynx, there was the long-time-no-see Bobcat.

Before ending his trip in the Yukon, Chen Wen secretly went to the Sonora Desert to bring the Bobcat back.

When Chen Wen appeared in the familiar valley.

The Bobcat sunbathing suddenly stood up.

No communication or exchange.

Chen Wen just extended his hand, and the Bobcat happily leapt onto his shoulder.

”Human, long time no see.”

The Bobcat’s expression was calm, but its voice trembled a bit.

”Long time no see!”

Chen Wen cheerfully put down the Canadian Lynx and hugged the Bobcat.

The Canadian Lynx felt a little jealous but did not dare to speak.

”It seems some interesting things happened here before I arrived.”

Seeing the Lynx’s sheepish look, Chen Wen said with a smile.

Sun seemed to have witnessed the scene, he explained, ”The two Lynxes actually had a fight before you arrived, and the Bobcat, with its rich experience and more ferocious nature, gave the Canadian Lynx a good beating.”

”But that was just once, afterward, the Canadian Lynx didn’t provoke the Bobcat anymore.”

Chen Wen nodded slightly, knowing that these intelligent creatures wouldn’t fight to the death, and they also recognized each other as companions.

A simple fight was for establishing rank.

The Bobcat is truly a fierce character capable of standing up against coyotes and even daring to attack humans.

Not something for Lynxes to mess with.

For now, the Snowy Owl seemed to dominate over the Golden Eagle, and the Bobcat over the Lynx.

These two are like leaders among the animals.

”Human! Here I come!”

With a shout, a gray fluff ball suddenly crashed into Chen Wen’s line of sight.

As soon as Chen Wen reacted, the gray fluff ball banged into his head.

He spread his hands, catching the fluff ball in his arms.

”What’s this?”

Looking at the fluff ball, Chen Wen was a bit puzzled.

When did I encounter such a creature?

”Ahem, this is your Scops Owl.”

Sun looked at the round and chubby Scops Owl, feeling a bit embarrassed: ”It’s very personable and quite likable. The director loves feeding it, and after some extra feeding, it ended up like this.”

Chen Wen and the Scops Owl stared at each other, one human and one bird, big eyes to small eyes.

”Oh boy, you need to lose some weight.”

Weighing the Scops Owl, Chen Wen couldn’t help but say, ”It’s a miracle you can still fly now.”

Sun heard this and silently agreed.

”Human, is that something you say upon meeting someone?”

The Scops Owl was displeased.

What’s wrong with being fat?

Did I eat your food?

Chen Wen reached out and gently rubbed the Scops Owl’s head, which quickly improved its mood.

Lastly was the Rough-legged Hawk.

The Rough-legged Hawk seemed to hold a lower status among the birds.

It was quite afraid of the Golden Eagle and the Snowy Owl but still bravely flew over.

”Hey, you’ve put on weight too!”

Chen Wen laughed.

He extended his arm, allowing the Rough-legged Hawk to perch on his sleeve.

However, the Rough-legged Hawk’s weight gain was normal and totally different from the Scops Owl’s roundness.

Thus, the special animals Chen Wen had previously tamed were all gathered together.

Chen Wen was satisfied to see his healthy and lively animal friends, increasingly fond of this zoo, and growing an appreciation for the unseen director.

”I’ll notify the director, you go ahead and reunite with your animals first.”

Sun suggested, pointing to the door behind him: ”To exit, go this way, bye-bye.”

”Bye-bye.”
