Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 341: Chapter 9: Drone to the Rescue

Upon seeing the ripples on the water’s surface, Chen Wen made a snap decision and immediately crouched down, hiding behind the reeds.

The entries [Hiding] and [Night Shadow] were instantly triggered.

It was as if a divine force had made him less visible, greatly reducing his presence.

Except for his scent, the surrounding creatures couldn’t sense his existence at all.

And coincidentally, the smell around the hippos was quite strong.

Friends who’ve been to the zoo know that hippos are quite smelly creatures.

Under such an overpowering scent, Chen Wen’s smell was insignificant.

Therefore, Chen Wen managed to stealthily lurk among the reeds.

When the Nile crocodile that spotted Chen Wen emerged again, it was surprised to find its prey had vanished.

The Nile crocodile was baffled and, after wandering around for a while,

it returned to shore, gaping and in a daze.

For them, failing to catch prey was as common as a daily routine; they were used to it.

Seeing the Nile crocodile leave, Chen Wen breathed a sigh of relief among the reeds.

”Wow, this place is truly dangerous. While I was just in a daze, I almost got spotted by the Nile crocodile and the hippos.”

Chen Wen couldn’t help but say, ”Luckily, I noticed something was off and hid in time, otherwise being spotted by any of them could have severe consequences.”

”At the least, I’d be chased away; at worst, I’d be attacked. How thrilling, how risky.”

Then, Chen Wen poked his head out from the reeds.

He noticed the hippos were quite close but hadn’t noticed him.

The Nile crocodiles were a bit further away and also hadn’t noticed him.

”I’m safe for now, but not indefinitely. As time passes, this small delta in the river will surely attract some animals, perhaps hippos coming to relieve themselves, or tired crocodiles coming to rest. In short, I can’t stay here long.”

After explaining, Chen Wen said, ”Therefore, my most urgent task now is to escape this delta. But as soon as I leave the reeds, the hippos and Nile crocodiles will spot me. Hippos have very strong Territorial Consciousness, and their temper is quite fierce, so if I appear before them, they would attack and drive me away at any cost.”

”The situation is very complicated now; I need to think about how to escape from here.”

Saying this, Chen Wen took out his gear and began thinking about how to escape.

...

”Bro, how do we escape from this situation?”

At this time, Lin Jiawei struck up a conversation with a guide.

The guide gave a simple smile and said, ”It’s simple. Wait for the crocodiles and hippos to fight.”

Huh?

Lin Jiawei was full of questions.

What in the world? Did I hear that right?

What does it mean to wait for the crocodiles and hippos to fight?

This is simple?

The guide pointed at the Nile crocodiles over there: ”Although the relationship between Nile crocodiles and hippos is like that of two water sources that don’t interfere with each other, in some very special situations, Nile crocodiles will actively invade the hippos’ territory, particularly at the end of the rainy season and the onset of the dry season.”

”During this time, Nile crocodiles will look for land near the water to dig burrows, and this land is often next to hippo territories. At such times, conflicts between Nile crocodiles and hippos can easily erupt. It’s exactly that time now, and these Nile crocodiles are looking for suitable land.”

After carefully observing for a while, the guide said, ”It seems your contestant is called Chen Wen? The land under his feet is exactly the kind that Nile crocodiles favor.”

”But this land is within the hippos’ territory. These Nile crocodiles gathering together is likely an attempt to occupy it.”

”If Chen Wen is lucky enough, he might wait until the Nile crocodiles and hippos face off, which is more likely to happen around noon. But if he’s unlucky, then this scene won’t happen.”

”In that case, the only way to leave this land is to forcibly cross one of the animal’s territories. I recommend crossing the crocodiles’ territory, as their Territorial Consciousness is much weaker than that of the hippos.”

After hearing a lot from the guide, Lin Jiawei summed it up in simple terms.

”So basically, if he’s lucky, he waits for the hippos and crocodiles to fight, then leaves. If not, he must cross the crocodile territory?”

”Yes, that’s what I mean.”

”Is it dangerous to cross the crocodile territory?”

”What do you think?”

Their conversation was heard by many.

Many contestant assistants and some new staff showed some disdain on their faces.

This person boasts so much, why does he rely on luck as soon as he lands?

Only the old staff who have been through Yukon remain quite calm, even expecting Chen Wen’s upcoming performance.

...

Over on Chen Wen’s side, after a brief moment of contemplation, he came up with an idea.

It’s not about relying on hippo and Nile crocodile behavior to gamble on luck.

Chen Wen was aware of what the guide mentioned.

But he isn’t someone who likes to leave fate to luck.

He prefers to rely on what he has to change his fate.

So, Chen Wen took out the equipment to control a drone.

For this survival event, besides three tools, Chen Wen also brought some not-so-light filming equipment.

The first-person camera was a given, along with batteries, a satellite phone, and other equipment.

Most notably, he had a drone.

The drone replaces the heavy traditional cameras usually used in survival settings.

To provide the contestants with some autonomy, the production team allows them to control and use the drones.

As someone who loves to play, Chen Wen has a knack for drone control.

And this gives Chen Wen a chance to exploit the program’s bugs, which is to survive using the drone.

After taking out the drone control equipment, Chen Wen successfully regained control from the staff through an application.

The staff, an old hand from the Yukon, decisively handed over control to Chen Wen.

Intending to see what this amazing person could pull off.

Soon, Chen Wen was flying the drone above himself.

With the screen, he could clearly see the surrounding environment, the situation, and the distribution of the animals.

”Hmm, hmm... as it appears now, the Nile crocodiles are concentrated in the southwest. They are currently basking in the sun to warm up, which isn’t especially dangerous. The hippos are in the northeast, opposite the Nile crocodiles, forming a sort of diagonal spread. They are soaking in the water and are currently quite active, hence more dangerous!”

Analyzing the situation, Chen Wen addressed the camera: ”Now the situation is clear. I plan to lure away the hippos and head north to cross the water and land.”

Hearing this, Lin Jiawei at the program’s base was taken aback.

Hippos are dangerous; why head north?

It seemed Chen Wen foresaw this.

He smiled and said, ”You might wonder, why go north where the dangerous hippos are? But I want to point out that while the danger of hippos is on the surface, the danger of crocodiles is lurking. In the southern waters, other crocodiles might be hiding, difficult to spot or lure away. Hippos, however, are different; they all stay near the water’s surface, and it’s absolutely impossible for crocodiles to be in the hippos’ territory.”

”Look, among this group of hippos, there are seven or eight baby hippos. To ensure the young ones’ safety, the hippos are very vigilant against crocodiles. Therefore, as long as they can be lured away, this water area becomes extremely safe.”

”Additionally, it’s important to note that crocodile Territorial Consciousness is weaker than that of hippos, and hippos are more ill-tempered, hence easier to anger and lure away with the drone. Thus, although the north seems dangerous, handled properly, it’s actually safe.”

Listening to this explanation, Lin Jiawei suddenly understood.

Indeed, the Nile crocodiles can linger underwater for long periods, while hippos prefer to stay on the surface.

Moreover, hippos are large and easy to spot.

Overall, as long as the hippos can be lured away, the north is indeed safer.

But is it feasible to lure away hippos with a drone?

This question arose not only in Lin Jiawei’s mind but also puzzled other contestant assistants around.

Even Abel was stupefied.

But he was confused about why a drone could be such a tool in Chen Wen’s hands.
