Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 309: Chapter 132: Abel’s Invitation

After a simple conversation with the three animals.

Chen Wen headed back to the production team for recording.

He needed to record quite a lot of audio, which was also the most work.

When Chen Wen arrived, Abel greeted him with a beaming smile.

This enthusiastic director pulled Chen Wen aside and said, ”There’s not much to record this afternoon; primarily, I have something to discuss with you.”

Chen Wen was slightly taken aback and said, ”What’s the matter? Just go ahead and tell me, director.”

Hearing this, Abel rubbed his chin, somewhat embarrassed, and said, ”I’ve secured another investment to shoot a pure wilderness survival show. Are you interested?”

Pure wilderness survival?

Chen Wen laughed and said, ”Are you traumatized by what happened this time?”

”I really am.”

Seeing that Chen Wen didn’t object, Abel hurriedly said, ”So this time, I found investors who won’t interfere with the filming. I’m in charge of the time, location, everything.”

Chen Wen nodded, ”Do you have a place in mind, Director Abel?”

”I do, I do. The place I’ve tentatively chosen is near where we filmed with Teacher Dynasty back in the day, not very famous; it’s the Caprivi Strip in Namibia.”

Abel quickly explained, ”Although this place is in Africa, it’s relatively peaceful. The area we’re filming in is under government protection, so you can rest assured.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen frowned.

He really hadn’t heard of this place.

”And the timing? You know I need to prepare for wilderness solitude.”

Chen Wen asked, ”Starting from July next year, I won’t participate in other wilderness survival projects.”

”July... perfect! The place I’m planning to go is in the Southern Hemisphere. We’ll go at the end of summer, around March.”

Abel was thrilled, ”It seems like we’re really destined to work together!”

Chen Wen chuckled, ”Hopefully, yes. We do have phones, right? I’ll think about it after I get back and let you know.”

Hearing this, Abel immediately nodded, ”Of course, let’s start today’s recording.”

...

As Chen Wen entered the meeting room to start recording.

In the same building, but on the floor above.

Belmont was listening with a frown to the report from Jiao and Dio.

”We can’t find it, neither the gold nor the map, it’s all missing!”

Dio frowned, his face also filled with worry.

Jiao glanced at Belmont’s expression and cautiously said, ”But we found traces of the remaining mercenaries.”

”Are they still alive?”

”Dead.”

Upon hearing this, Belmont slapped the table, ”What use are dead men? I need someone alive! I need someone to tell me where the map went!”

Dio tentatively said, ”Didn’t the mercenaries say a winged bear took it away...”

He hadn’t finished when he saw a smile appear on Belmont’s face.

It was a laugh out of anger.

Belmont said in exasperation, ”Oh Dio! After all these years of study, have you made no progress at all? Do you believe in these ridiculous tales?”

”A winged bear, that story was definitely made up by those two sentries! Who else besides them saw it?”

Dio didn’t dare to speak.

Belmont continued, ”Nine times out of ten, those two sentries saw the map in the captain’s hand, got greedy, killed the captain, and stole the map.”

”Then the two concocted such a story to divert attention, just like those four guards fabricated the story about the demon’s arrival!”

The four mercenaries guarding Chen Wen were still alive.

They were questioned separately by Dio about the so-called demon arrival.

In the end, they confessed and revealed the truth about the demon’s arrival.

Hearing this, Dio found it laughable and could only truthfully relay the so-called demon arrival to Belmont.

Seeing Dio’s sheepish expression, Belmont couldn’t bear to blame him.

This trusted aide of his had been running around for so many days; even without accomplishments, his hard work was evident.

He sighed and said, ”The so-called demon, the winged bear, are just little tricks by these mercenaries to get to the treasure or avoid punishment.”

”In such environments and situations, it’s too easy for mercenaries to create some paranormal events. A single lie from them can vividly bring a paranormal event to life, with no reference value at all.”

”Are there any other traces at the scene? Find some forensic experts from the police to take a look, maybe they can find more clues.”

Hearing this, Dio wiped the sweat from his nose and said, ”No, sir, it was still snowing at the time, and many traces were covered.”

Belmont let out a long breath, his eyes somewhat disappointed, ”Ah, maybe I really am not fated with these treasures. You all keep working on it; I’ll think of other ways, off you go.”

Dio and Jiao slightly bowed, quickly leaving.

...

After completing the recording.

Chen Wen took his leave.

While going upstairs, he happened to run into Dio and Jiao in the elevator lobby.

Seeing Chen Wen, the two nodded at him.

”Are you two heading up?”

Chen Wen said warmly, pressing the button for the floor his room was on.

Jiao, somewhat familiar with Chen Wen, shook his head and said, ”Your tasks are over, but we still have plenty to do.”

Saying this, Jiao seemed to recall something: ”Your Hua Country people seem to believe in ghosts and spirits. Do you think a winged bear really exists?”

Chen Wen was taken aback, not expecting Jiao to ask this.

He thought for a moment and honestly replied, ”I think it’s impossible. Take my Golden Eagle, for example; it weighs a bit over four kilograms, but its wingspan is nearly two meters. A large gray bear’s wingspan would need to be immense to lift it.”

”Even if it had a wingspan capable of lifting it, how would it avoid wind damage to its eyes during flight? You know, most mammals don’t have nictitating membranes; their eyes can’t withstand wind damage during flight.”

”And if such a bear really existed, why wouldn’t it steal food instead of a map?”

Chen Wen’s counter-question left Jiao with an epiphany.

”So you’re saying, a winged bear doesn’t exist at all?”

”Absolutely not! If it really existed, the entire biological sciences would need to be overhauled.”

Chen Wen’s gaze was as determined as someone pledging allegiance to a party.

Jiao nodded, ”Maybe you’re right. Like Mr. Belmont, he doesn’t believe in the so-called winged bear either.”

Chen Wen laughed, ”Great minds think alike; the lower the education level, the more they believe in such nonsense.”

Upon hearing this, Dio’s face turned sour.

Damn, who’s he calling uneducated?

Chen Wen smiled and said, ”I didn’t mean anything offensive, just wanted to tell Mr. Jiao that if you’re looking for the map, you could follow the direction those mercenaries retreated in. In this weather, they’d move slowly, leaving lots of traces in the snow.”

Hearing this, Dio interrupted, ”We found those mercenaries, but there’s not much trace left.”

Found them? That fast?

Chen Wen was a bit taken aback, pretending to be puzzled, ”If you found them, why are you still asking this? Shouldn’t the map be with those mercenaries who left?”

Dio shook his head, ”Not a trace of the map, not even the gold.”

”That’s unfortunate; take care.”

Chen Wen showed a sympathetic expression.

As the elevator was about to reach Chen Wen’s floor, Jiao wrapped up the conversation: ”Thanks for your response, Mr. Chen. Now we know where to focus our efforts next.”

Chen Wen nodded, ”Good luck.”

The elevator bell chimed lightly, and Chen Wen cheerfully stepped out, ”Goodbye, gentlemen.”

”Goodbye!”
