Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 319: Chapter 8: Javelin Practice

After a lunch.

Chen Wen happily returned to his room, with Liu Yu staying across the hall.

”President, we’ve seen the animals. When are we leaving?”

Chen Wen leaned on Liu Yu’s door and asked.

Liu Yu waved his hand with a smile, ”No rush. Didn’t you mention before that you wanted to learn javelin throwing?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen’s eyes lit up, ”Yes, your javelin skills really impressed me. I’m not good at active hunting, and I’m quite lacking in this area, so I wanted to learn.”

”You can learn if you want. My javelin skills aren’t a secret, just a few techniques. I’ll teach you, and you can practice on your own.”

Liu Yu said, ”Let’s stay here for a couple more days; food and lodging are covered. We’ll just learn here.”

”There aren’t many people here, and the environment suits the wilderness. If fixed targets aren’t satisfying, there are moving targets. We have plenty of roaming roosters on the mountain; killing them would just feed other animals.”

Indeed.

Chen Wen thought about it and felt Liu Yu’s suggestion was quite good.

In the afternoon, Chen Wen and Liu Yu began practicing javelin throwing.

The practice process wasn’t as tough as Chen Wen had imagined; in fact, it was quite relaxed.

Because he was already strong, and with some technique guidance, he learned very quickly.

Just in one afternoon, he was getting the hang of it.

”Tsk tsk, young people really have good physical strength!”

Watching Chen Wen’s visible muscles in the air, Liu Yu couldn’t help but comment.

Sweating all over, Chen Wen wiped the sweat off his forehead and gasped, ”Good physical strength can’t beat experience!”

”I used a lot of strength and could barely throw less than seventy meters, and the lethality isn’t great. You can easily achieve effective damage around seventy meters. It’s really...”

Chen Wen felt a bit helpless.

Could it be that he met a naturally gifted athlete?

Liu Yu, listening to Chen Wen’s words, felt a bit disheartened, ”What do you mean my physical strength? My physical strength is quite good, better than Sun at least.”

”As for doing it easily, maybe it’s because I’ve been practicing constantly. As long as my feel for it is there, reaching seventy meters is still easy.”

Chen Wen sat in the snow, sipping warm water from his thermos.

Liu Yu continued, ”Actually, your progress is already fast. Your current skills are enough for the wilderness. In actual hunting, javelins are often used for ambushes.”

Speaking while sitting across from Chen Wen, Liu Yu explained scenarios for using a javelin.

”Most of the time, javelins are used when you’re very close to your prey or during a deliberate ambush. The long-distance sniping like in my videos is rarely used. In my twenty years of survival, I’ve only used it about ten times, with only a couple of successes.”

”You’re good at taming animals. You can use your trained animals to drive or lure your prey closer for a javelin shot.”

Chen Wen understood a bit.

He usually tames animals to act as scouts.

Or to delay the prey.

But driving and luring prey, he hadn’t tried yet.

”However, taming animals is quite unstable.”

Chen Wen said, ”If the animals in the area are aggressive, I can’t tame them.”

”Then ambush them.”

Liu Yu laughed, ”I’m actually best at ambush strikes. In the Amazon, I used to find some tall, lush trees, prepare bait underneath, and I’d hide up in the tree.”

”When the prey is attracted by the bait, I would launch a surprise attack, tossing the javelin from above for effective damage.”

”Most animals, unless they’re particularly large, will die quickly with one javelin. So this tactic works well. When you go to Caprivi, you can definitely try this method.”

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

There’s not much restriction on hunting animals during this trip to Caprivi.

Because, although Caprivi is nominally part of Namibia, it’s practically a neglected area at the border of four countries.

There aren’t many people living here, just the Ovambo and Lozi people chasing water and grass.

The tribes often have conflicts, which is quite a spectacle.

Due to a lack of natural resources and a harsh environment, Caprivi District is essentially a lawless land in reality.

Besides the occasional tribal conflicts between the Ovambo and Lozi, there are only numerous Nile crocodiles, hippos, and aggressive African elephants around.

During this survival trip, as long as you don’t hunt large, endangered animals like elephants or rhinos.

Game like Nile crocodiles or hippos.

Abel’s stance is that you can hunt as much as you want, and no one will care.

This is why Chen Wen decided to participate in this survival trip.

Compared to the leniency of such neglected areas, surviving in the domestic wilderness is much harder.

You could end up in trouble just for taking a bird’s nest.

”I already planned to hone my hunting skills on this trip to Caprivi.”

Chen Wen said, ”I rely heavily on traps for hunting, which is not a good habit. In previous wilderness survival videos, those who solely relied on traps rarely lasted until the end.”

”Right, knowing your weaknesses and addressing them in time is key.”

Liu Yu looked at Chen Wen approvingly, ”In this aspect, you’re much better than Hua Yun. That girl is straightforward and only trusts in her archery skills. Her survival is just one tactic — hunting.”

”As soon as she lands, she goes around with her bow and arrows looking for prey. Once she kills a prey, she’ll find a hidden spot to bury or make a portable cart to carry it, hunting until she’s satisfied or can’t go on.”

”Her method has high entertainment value, but it’s quite average in terms of actual survival. Without logistics support, no matter how much prey she gets, it can’t substitute for a shelter at the end. I’ve told her several times before, but she refuses to change.”

Chen Wen chuckled.

Hua Yun’s style is somewhat complementary to his.

In the previous Yukon survival, he realized that having Hua Yun hunt while he manages the camp is the most efficient and comfortable way to survive.

But unfortunately, wilderness survival is about being alone, not in a group.

Otherwise, Chen Wen and Hua Yun could conquer the entire wilderness challenge.

”Let’s not talk about her. That girl needs to find her training place too. Let’s not fall behind, continue with the pull-ups!”

Liu Yu stood up and patted the snow off his pants.

Javelin throwing demands high strength from the back, waist, shoulders, and arms.

Pull-ups are the best exercise for training these areas.

Conveniently, near the Da Xing’an Ridge, there’s no shortage of trees.

Chen Wen could only find a sturdy spruce to continue his pull-up training.

And so, amidst the vast snowscape and Liu Yu’s guidance, Chen Wen completed a five-day javelin training session.

Five days later.

Chen Wen finished his training.

Besides Liu Yu finishing his work here, Chen Wen was also getting restless.

”Then let’s go, it’s almost the New Year.”

Liu Yu said, hesitating for a moment, then looking at Chen Wen, ”This year...”

Chen Wen looked at Liu Yu in surprise, ”What’s up?”

”Nothing, I heard Lin Jiawei invited you to spend the New Year at his place?”

”Yes, he did.”

”You’re not going to go?”

”No.”

Chen Wen shook his head, ”He’s single, going home for the New Year. I can’t just follow him to his hometown, can I?”

”True.”

Liu Yu nodded, unsure how to offer further. He simply said, ”If you have nowhere to go for the New Year, come to my place. It’s just another pair of chopsticks.”

Chen Wen waved it off, heading straight to the car.
