Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 349: Chapter 20: Shelter Construction Completed, Hunting Nile Crocodiles

Chen Wen had no idea how things were back home.

Right now, as he was eating grilled fish and drinking hot water, he was contemplating today’s action plan.

”For now, I’ve managed to gain a foothold, and today’s plan isn’t complicated; it’s to further construct the treehouse shelter.”

Chen Wen spoke to the camera: ”I plan to finish building the treehouse today and seal the roof.”

”Although it’s the end of the rainy season and the dry season is approaching, I still need to consider the possibility of rain. My greatest strength is to plan ahead and prepare in advance.”

”So, sealing the roof of the treehouse is my main task right now.”

”Therefore, this morning I’ll gather materials, get ready, build the treehouse in the afternoon, and by evening, I’ll try to find some Egyptian Catfish to see if I can catch more.”

This plan aimed for steady progress.

At least Abel, who came over with a cup of coffee, didn’t find anything inappropriate.

Chen Wen had water, fire, and a shelter.

With stable food resources, everyone relying on the Kuanduo River didn’t have to worry about food.

As survival continues, food will become more abundant.

However, the only thing Abel was concerned about—though it wasn’t really a concern, more like interest—was that another malicious survivor named Brad was approaching Chen Wen.

Although his direction was a bit off, Brad would definitely find Chen Wen within two days.

The tools Brad carried were highly aggressive.

A machete, canned meat, waterproof fabric.

The machete, needless to say, was made for combat.

The canned meat could replenish stamina, allowing Brad to remain full of energy and strength even after a long journey.

The waterproof fabric served as a simple shelter.

In Caprivi’s environment, setting up the waterproof fabric at night would create a tent.

Therefore, Brad was actually the second-best survivor in terms of current status.

The first, of course, was Chen Wen.

If these two meet, there would definitely be a fierce battle, and the show would be eventful.

As for the outcome, Abel naturally hoped Chen Wen would win.

But survival always requires considering unexpected situations.

What if Brad discovered Chen Wen in advance and launched a night attack, or stole the satellite phone when Chen Wen was away?

This round of contestant eliminations still relied on calling the opponent’s satellite phone.

That would be costly.

After all, Chen Wen hadn’t started taming animals yet, and the real show hadn’t even begun.

...

Back to Chen Wen.

He began his work for the day.

The side of the treehouse also needed four main beams.

However, since Caprivi wasn’t particularly cold, there was no need for four walls on the side.

He only needed two walls where he slept.

The rest just needed a roof.

So, the task of gathering materials wasn’t very burdensome for Chen Wen.

In about an hour, Chen Wen found suitable main beams and a large pile of fine branches.

After transporting the materials back to the shelter, it was still early.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and decided to take action to move these materials up the tree and start construction.

After two trips with his backpack, all the materials were on the tree.

Chen Wen climbed the tree and started building the main beams and framework.

He erected four straight and sturdy main beams, securing their ends to the tree branches with knots.

At the side where he would rest his head while sleeping, he used thin sticks to build two walls.

It wasn’t until around three in the afternoon that Chen Wen finished building the two walls.

”Finally done.”

Chen Wen sat cross-legged inside the makeshift treehouse, gently leaning against the walls he had built, feeling quite content.

This was a shelter he had crafted with his own hands, full of a sense of accomplishment.

After lying down for a while, Chen Wen decided to seize the remaining daylight and try to find more Egyptian Catfish.

See if he could catch some catfish for dinner.

...

He arrived at the Kuanduo River.

It was still early, and the Egyptian Catfish had not yet emerged.

But Chen Wen noticed several Nile crocodiles leisurely swimming in the river not far away.

Seeing this, Chen Wen suddenly had a bold idea.

”The Egyptian Catfish haven’t come out yet, and it’s not possible to catch them by going into the water now, especially since there are Nile crocodiles roaming around. It’s not safe to go in the water either.”

Chen Wen rubbed the stubble emerging on his chin and analyzed, ”So it’s not the time to go into the water, but I plan to try fishing.”

Fishing?

Lin Jiawei, upon hearing this, instinctively glanced at Chen Wen’s equipment.

But there’s no fishing rod?

Even if a stick could replace a rod, there’s no line or hook either.

How could he fish like this?

Could it be that Chen Wen has some hidden fishing skills?

Like fishing with bare hands?

But as Lin Jiawei speculated, Chen Wen took out a spear.

Seeing this, Lin Jiawei suddenly felt an uneasy premonition.

Fishing... can you use a spear to fish?

...

”Perhaps everyone is saying now that you’re just making things up. You don’t even have a fishing rod, so how can you fish?”

Chen Wen smiled and said, ”But let me put it this way: as long as you have bait, you can fish!”

”And the fish I’m aiming to catch isn’t small fish like the Egyptian Catfish; what I want to catch is the Nile crocodile!”

Upon hearing the name Nile crocodile, Lin Jiawei smiled knowingly.

I knew it, Chen Wen has something big planned for today.

The Nile crocodile is the second-largest crocodile in the world, only after the saltwater crocodile.

It’s also Africa’s largest crocodile.

They are protected by many countries, but in this survival show, they are allowed to be hunted.

However, the production team does not allow crocodile egg collection or hunting of young crocodiles.

Chen Wen’s intention to catch Nile crocodiles was entirely within the rules set by the production team.

Listening to Chen Wen’s words, Abel showed an expression of anticipation.

Chen Wen had been busy all day with the foundational work, and now, finally, there was some action.

...

”Fishing, especially for big fish like the Nile crocodile, requires careful preparation.”

Chen Wen said, inspecting the tools he had on hand.

”The spear can serve as the primary weapon for hunting Nile crocodiles. Although they are enormous and almost invincible in water, their vulnerabilities are quite noticeable.”

Holding the spear up to the camera, Chen Wen solemnly declared, ”First, let me clarify that the Nile crocodile, with its unique ecological value, is part of the global family. My hunting of the Nile crocodile is within local government permissions and does not impact the local ecological environment.”

”Protecting wildlife and maintaining ecological balance is everyone’s responsibility. Hunting, killing, eating, trading, and dealing with wildlife and its products are all criminal acts.”

Hearing the familiar universal disclaimer, Aberton instantly felt relieved.

”Additionally, as a professional survivalist, I dare to hunt Nile crocodiles. Non-professionals should never approach wild Nile crocodiles, let alone mimic my actions. I hope everyone takes note of this.”

Feeling there were no oversights, Chen Wen continued his analysis.

”Nile crocodiles are formidable in water, but when they come ashore, their agility and strength decrease significantly. This is our best opportunity to hunt Nile crocodiles.”

”Some might say getting a Nile crocodile on land is easy, and don’t many sunbathe on the shore?”

Chen Wen spoke with a mysterious smile: ”If you think that way, you’re wrong. Crocodiles on the shore are actually highly alert. When you approach, they are likely to retreat into the water, denying you the chance for a close-range hunt. If you attempt a long-range attack, their scales deflect most projectiles. So, they’re quite challenging to hunt.”

”But today, seeing me is your lucky day, as I happen to know a method to lure Nile crocodiles ashore.”

”Next, watch me in action!”
