Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 324: Chapter 13: New Year’s Eve Surprise

”So, Director, have you tried live streaming?”

Chen Wen asked.

Jiang Xue definitely knew about live streaming.

But she wasn’t quite sure about Chen Wen’s idea.

”Nowadays netizens are into cloud petting dogs and cats; we could totally create a buzz, get some live streaming equipment, and broadcast the daily activities of the animals.”

Chen Wen said, ”The streaming equipment can easily be hidden, which won’t affect the animals, and it could also provide an additional source of income for the zoo.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xue frowned and said, ”That’s all well and good, but... generally, nobody would watch it, right?”

”You’re underestimating just how idle netizens are these days.”

Chen Wen said, ”Just like that previously viral street cat? I think that’s what it’s called, just setting up some equipment to feed stray cats on the street. Not to mention the ethical issues with that, just the live streaming aspect, it attracted a lot of viewers, let alone our zoo with so many... unique animals.”

”Not to mention anything else, but the bobcat and scops owl are star animals and can somewhat draw in viewers.”

Jiang Xue nodded slightly, understanding what Chen Wen meant.

”I’ll think about it.”

Jiang Xue interrupted Chen Wen, who wanted to elaborate more, and expressed an apologetic look, ”I still don’t quite like making the zoo too commercialized.”

Chen Wen heard her words and didn’t say more.

As long as Jiang Xue realized he also wanted the zoo to improve.

The reason he was doing this was because he admired Jiang Xue.

Not in a romantic way, but purely admiring Jiang Xue’s patience and ability in dealing with animals.

Chen Wen was definitely going to leave here later to continue surviving.

To see more scenery, improve his abilities, encounter more special animals, and write his own story.

But the animals he encountered before couldn’t just be abandoned like that.

So, even if he bought an island, Chen Wen would need someone to take care of the animals.

Jiang Xue was the kind of person he wanted.

Someone who has patience for animals, even an untainted love, and strong abilities.

Just in this small zoo, being able to care for so many animals has already exceeded Chen Wen’s expectations.

If on his island, he could hire such a zoo director.

Then, when Chen Wen went out to survive, he wouldn’t have to worry about the special animals at home.

So, starting yesterday, Chen Wen began considering how to entice this female director over.

But so far, using money obviously doesn’t work.

The only option is to first express goodwill and become friends.

...

Just like this.

Chen Wen stayed at this small zoo until New Year’s Eve.

The bobcat also recovered during this period and returned to the glass house.

Mr. Li, the gatekeeper, and his wife lived at the zoo, and they were planning to celebrate the New Year there.

Without anywhere else to go, Chen Wen joined Mr. Li and his wife for the New Year.

Although Jiang Xue wasn’t very keen on leaving the zoo, she couldn’t resist family obligations.

She planned to leave on the afternoon of the 30th to go home for the New Year.

Before leaving, Jiang Xue reminded Chen Wen about the zoo’s emergency procedures.

Chen Wen noted down everything without being perfunctory.

Jiang Xue was quite touched.

”There’s nothing else that needs attention. I should be back around the second or third day of the New Year, others will return around the fifth day, and then you won’t have to manage everything alone.”

”Okay, Director, you can rest assured. I’ve already gotten familiar with the animals’ temperaments over these days.”

Chen Wen said.

However, he was a bit disappointed that, among so many unique animals in the zoo, there weren’t any special animals.

After watching Jiang Xue get picked up by a small car, Chen Wen walked back into the zoo with his hands behind his back.

He started his day’s patrol work.

This job was previously handled by Jiang Xue, mainly to check on the animals’ feeding and mental states.

Chen Wen carefully inspected everything, finding all the animals, except for the old Northeast Tiger, to be healthy and lively.

”Chen, stop busying yourself.”

Seeing that Chen Wen had finished his patrol, Mr. Li immediately waved him over to come inside.

”Come have some sunflower seeds, frozen pears, and sugar mandarins. I specifically went to town to buy these.”

Chen Wen replied, ”Okay, I’ll be right there.”

After confirming and signing the records, Chen Wen slipped into Mr. Li’s house.

After eating and drinking, they pasted up Spring Festival couplets.

The New Year’s atmosphere finally arrived.

As the sky was about to darken, Chen Wen took some fruits and went to the glass house.

During the New Year atmosphere, Chen Wen also wanted the animals to experience it.

The animals were quite unfamiliar and curious about the New Year.

Each of them turned into a hundred thousand whys.

Chen Wen patiently answered the animals’ questions.

But just as the animals stopped asking and started enjoying the food.

Chen Wen suddenly heard a low growl.

”That sound...”

Chen Wen glanced at the lynx and bobcat.

Both animals also heard the unusual sound.

”Human, it seems to be coming from the innermost animal.”

The bobcat reminded Chen Wen.

The lynx then confirmed, ”Yes, it’s it, and it’s in pain.”

Chen Wen was startled.

He quickly clapped his hands and said, ”You all stay here and don’t run around. I’m going to get someone to take a look.”

After speaking, Chen Wen walked out of the glass house, hurriedly heading towards Mr. Li’s house.

As soon as he entered, he said, ”Mr. Li, I just heard Big Orange growling, should we go and check it out?”

”Let’s go.”

Mr. Li didn’t hesitate, washed his hands by the sink, and grabbed a flashlight to lead the way.

Chen Wen quickly followed.

The two of them quickly reached the innermost tiger house and saw the old Northeast Tiger painfully lying on the ground, its body trembling unnaturally.

”What’s going on here?”

Mr. Li shined his flashlight on the Northeast Tiger’s body.

Chen Wen didn’t see any external injuries.

He frowned and said, ”It might be internal injuries or it’s sick?”

”It’s hard to say. I’ll contact the director.”

Mr. Li said, taking out his phone to call Jiang Xue.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen searched for the town’s vet number, planning to ask about the situation.

A moment later, Chen Wen shook his head and said, ”The vet can’t come. He’s just returned home.”

Mr. Li, shaking his phone, said frustratingly, ”Can’t reach the director, says she’s out of the service area, or something like that.”

The two looked at each other, a bit unsure of what to do.

Chen Wen anxiously scratched his head, observing the Northeast Tiger’s condition from outside.

A moment later, he actually spotted something.

”Hey, Mr. Li, shine your light over there on the feeding trough. The meat put out by the director today, is it all gone?”

Mr. Li heard this and nervously shone his light on the trough.

Just as Chen Wen said, the raw meat on the trough had disappeared.

”It really is, could it be this guy’s greed, eating too much?”

Mr. Li asked.

Overeating is definitely not the case.

Chen Wen slightly shook his head; the feeding was done by him, all of it was measured portions.

”Could it be choked?”

Chen Wen muttered to himself, suddenly widening his eyes, ”Damn, that’s really possible! The director said today that it’s New Year’s and wanted to give Big Orange a treat, so she put in half a chicken.”

Mr. Li shook at these words.

Chen Wen didn’t notice this, simply asking, ”Mr. Li, usually in this situation how do we handle it?”

After speaking, seeing Mr. Li remained silent.

Chen Wen and Mr. Li exchanged glances.

Mr. Li grinned, ”Chen, if a person is choked on a fishbone, what do they do?”

Chen Wen thought for a moment and said, ”Drink vinegar, eat steamed buns, and cough hard a few times?”

”And if it’s a bigger bone?”

”Use tweezers to pick it out then.”

After speaking, Chen Wen and Mr. Li looked at each other.

Then Mr. Li shone the flashlight on the Northeast Tiger, the implication was clear.

”Chen, I’m too old and timid, you go ahead.”

”Mr. Li!”
