Chapter 749: Chapter 59: Joy and Seeking

”This gentleman...”

Aoi Tohsaka wanted to say something, but just an hour ago, she had witnessed Su Xiao sever the limbs of another person. Such ruthless means, she had never seen in her life. Now, with Su Xiao bringing her daughter to the doorstep, she didn’t know what kind of emotion to express.

Sakura Matou looked at Su Xiao’s departing figure. For some reason, she suddenly recalled the moment when Su Xiao had lifted her from the worm pond.

”Thank you.”

Sakura Matou’s voice was very small, so small that Aoi Tohsaka, who was holding her, didn’t hear it.

Even if Su Xiao had heard it, he wouldn’t have cared. The reason he brought Sakura Matou to the Tosaka family was simply that Sakura was obedient enough. She didn’t cry or cause trouble while following him, ate whatever was given without being picky, and starved when not given food.

Su Xiao was indeed merciless when killing enemies, but he was not a killing maniac. If it’s not an enemy, killing without reason holds no meaning and could even lead to losing one’s mind, becoming a killing machine.

Su Xiao was not a killing machine. On the contrary, his will was very firm, not being swayed by slaughter. He didn’t need superficial reasons to kill; if one chose to be an enemy, then it was a matter of life and death. If the enemy was strong enough, they could kill him—it’s that simple.

”Bu Bu, where is the sea stench most obvious?”

”Woof.”

Bubu Wang led Su Xiao to the area where the sea stench was most apparent.

...

On the outskirts of Fuyuki City, in a castle.

Inside the study, dim candlelight flickered. A young man dressed entirely in black, a cross hanging on his chest, was seated on a wooden chair.

The man covered his forehead with one hand, his face full of a delightful yet sickly smile, as if some attribute within him had been stirred, fully awakening the evil beast in his heart.

Golden light dots shimmered in the dim study, and the King of Heroes, dressed in casual attire, appeared. His severed arm had not recovered.

”What, still reveling in pleasure?”

The King of Heroes chuckled softly. He was no longer Tokiomi Tohsaka’s Servant but that of the young man. Although this guy first committed patricide, then killed his mentor, the King of Heroes found this guy more interesting than Tokiomi Tohsaka.

”I actually have such tastes, hahaha, it’s truly evil, simply beastly. Such a me, to think I’m Kotomine Lisei’s (Old Priest’s) offspring? Hahaha.”

The young man, Kirei Kotomine, laughed heartily. As he laughed, a faint pink glow flickered in his eyes.

”Kirei, that woman’s ability still resides in you, are you sure about keeping that energy within?”

The King of Heroes laughed as well. He wasn’t particularly interested in the Holy Grail, just seeking to stave off boredom.

”Why remove that energy? It was precisely this that allowed me to see myself clearly. I’ve never acted in accordance with my will before, and the first thing I do when I do is kill my father? Perhaps I am inherently a beast devoted to all evils.”

The pink glow in Kirei Kotomine’s eyes faded. If Su Xiao were present, he would certainly recognize this energy; it was the telekinesis ability of Butterfly.

It seems Butterfly was quite crafty. While chasing down other Contractors, she also prepared to make a quick profit when leaving the Holy Grail. She left a seed within Kirei Kotomine, and as long as it activated, she could control him.

Butterfly never imagined she would die by Su Xiao’s blade before activating the energy seed within Kirei Kotomine. With Butterfly dead, the seed inside him shattered—it was a Charm Ability.

The seed shattering awakened the evil beast within Kirei Kotomine, allowing him to live by his own will instead of others’, which led him to seek out the Old Priest, and have a lengthy conversation.

The expression on the Old Priest’s face then could only be described as astonished; he realized he didn’t understand his 27-year-old biological son at all.

Thus, the Old Priest died, and in his final moments turned to dust, he said something like: ’In the end, I find myself unable to understand you, my...’

The unspoken words: my biological offspring.

Having achieved patricide, Kirei Kotomine was quite pleased, so he set his eyes on his next target, Tokiomi Tohsaka.

With the help of the King of Heroes, Kirei Kotomine stabbed Tokiomi Tohsaka in the back, successfully accomplishing the feat of killing his mentor and attaining ’dual achievements,’ bringing Kirei Kotomine immense pleasure.

It was at this time that Matou Gan Ye traced the aura of the King of Heroes and arrived. He wasn’t searching for Tokiomi Tohsaka, but rather following the aura. Initially, the King of Heroes intended to dispose of him easily, yet decided otherwise after meeting Kirei Kotomine.

When Matou Gan Ye saw Tokiomi’s corpse, he jumped forward, resulting in what Su Xiao saw: Matou Gan Ye beheaded and his body thrown into the fountain, creating the illusion that Matou Gan Ye and Tokiomi Tohsaka had perished together.

”Do as you wish, but...”

The King of Heroes spoke.

”Find out where Berserker is, he must die by my hand.”

”Sure.”

Kirei Kotomine rose from his seat.

”Kirei, you have pleased this King, but don’t become the next Tokiomi.”

The King of Heroes narrowed his eyes as Kirei Kotomine hesitated in his steps.

”King of Heroes, I still have many confusions, but as you said, someone like me should never stop.”

Kirei Kotomine rolled up his sleeve, revealing his arm densely covered with command seals, seized from the Old Priest.

”Hahaha, Kirei, you truly...”

The King of Heroes chuckled and shook his head. Though Kirei Kotomine wasn’t as subservient as Tokiomi Tohsaka, he was more optimistic about him, finding him much more interesting—not obsessed solely with the Holy Grail.

”If there’s nothing else, I’ll go look for Berserker’s trail.”

”Don’t underestimate him. With your abilities, should he find you, it would be your end.”

The King of Heroes, having had an arm cut off by Su Xiao, was determined to face Su Xiao in battle once more.

...

Drip, drip.

Sewage trickled at Su Xiao’s feet; he was deep within the sewers of Fuyuki City, the stench was overwhelming.

”Bubu, are you sure this is the place?”

Su Xiao frowned. Although he didn’t mind the filthy sewage around him, the smell inside the sewers was indeed suffocating.

Bubu Wang snorted, rolling its eyes from the stench. With its sharp sense of smell, it was as though residing in a ”Hellish Stench.”

Su Xiao took out a gas mask; the sewers’ overwhelming stench was beyond what ordinary humans could tolerate. It was definitely not normal.

Both man and dog donned their gas masks and ventured deeper into the sewers.

As they delved further into the sewers of Fuyuki City, Su Xiao noticed the walls stained with a biological fluid, carrying faint Heroic Spirit energy pulses and a strong scent of the sea, detectable even through the gas mask.

”This is unmistakable. Those two oddlings must be nearby.”

Su Xiao was searching for the Master of the Caster faction, a boy named Uzumaki Ryunosuke, who enjoyed experiencing death when killing others. Because of this peculiar interest, he unwittingly summoned a Caster-class Heroic Spirit.

Though Uzumaki Ryunosuke was a Master, he had little understanding of the Holy Grail War and virtually no participation in it.

Su Xiao tracked the biological fluid’s remnants and soon found a dead-end in the sewers littered with mutilated bodies—a crime scene of dismemberment.

”Already left, it seems.”

Su Xiao removed his gas mask and inspected around the corpses. Since Uzumaki Ryunosuke had been here and committed this dismemberment, finding something with his scent wasn’t hard. He soon discovered a purple coat, heavily stained with blood, in a corner—blood not from any of the nearby dead bodies.

The slaughter dagger appeared in his hand; Su Xiao cut a piece of cloth from the purple coat and retraced his steps.

Uzumaki Ryunosuke’s vigilance was low, and as for his Servant Gilles de Rais, he wasn’t very reliable either.

Su Xiao climbed out of the sewer exit and, to Bubu Wang’s disgusted expression, held the purple cloth to its nose.

Bubu Wang resisted the urge to vomit and sniffed.

”Track the scent on the clothing.”

”Ugh~”

Bubu Wang gagged, eyes watering, seeing this caused Su Xiao’s mouth to twitch.

Tears in its eyes, Bubu Wang began tracking the scent on the cloth, aware of the urgency and ignoring the stench. The man and dog began circling Fuyuki City.

After two whole hours, Bubu Wang led Su Xiao to a somewhat secluded part of Fuyuki City, a small wooden house by the street, presumably a storage shed.

Shua-la~

Sounds emerged from the wooden house—it sounded like meat being cut.

Su Xiao closed his eyes to perceive the surroundings. There was no Heroic Spirit nearby, only a faint Heroic Spirit energy emanating from the wooden house, weak enough to be ignored.

Su Xiao forcibly pushed open the wooden house’s door. Inside, a boy was dissecting a little girl with a scalpel, her limbs bound to an iron bed, already deceased.

The boy was startled by the door’s abrupt opening but quickly regained his composure, flipping the scalpel in his hand with a flickering cold gleam.

”Ah, discovered, huh.”

The boy was Uzumaki Ryunosuke.

”Now that you’ve found me, you’ll be my next toy, although I do prefer dissecting children.”

Uzumaki Ryunosuke grinned wickedly, sizing up Su Xiao, as if searching for the ideal place to make a cut without a source of confidence.

A white snake quickly slithered towards Uzumaki Ryunosuke, formed from an alchemy bomb.

The white creature leaped up from the ground, its triangular head darting into Uzumaki Ryunosuke’s mouth; though he was indeed a Master, he was but an ordinary human. Su Xiao didn’t even bother to use a knife to kill him.

”Ugh!”

Uzumaki Ryunosuke fell to the ground in pain, clutching his throat as his body convulsed like a fish out of water, the alchemy bomb-formed white snake burrowing fully into him—a most excruciating ordeal.

Su Xiao turned and left. Uzumaki Ryunosuke, such an unwary Master, was best dealt with swiftly. His Servant wasn’t nearby, but even if he was, Su Xiao could handle him.

Time was pressing, the truly troublesome enemies were yet to come, and he couldn’t waste time on a small fry like Uzumaki Ryunosuke.

Boom!

The wooden house by the street exploded into splinters and flames skyward, a scalpel hurtling up to land skewed into the ground.

Uzumaki Ryunosuke was blown to bits, earning Su Xiao no rewards; as a Heroic Spirit Master, he was just too weak.

Su Xiao checked the hidden task status: Current Master survivors: 3 people, remaining command seals: 33.

Su Xiao could have used Uzumaki Ryunosuke to lure out Gilles de Rais, but the mission time was too tight; he had to quickly find the other Masters’ hideouts.

From his storage space, he took out a tablet. Don’t underestimate Su Xiao’s gaming tablet; it was a high-tech product. Using it to hack into the Holy Grail World’s network was absurdly easy.

Su Xiao browsed the tablet’s information, looking for the second Master, Webber Vervitt, the Conqueror King’s Master.

According to the original novel, Webber Vervitt used magic to hypnotize an elderly couple, residing with them as their grandson.

From Su Xiao’s memory, the couple lived in the remote countryside, aged between 70 to 80, and their home wasn’t too far from Fuyuki City to avoid impacting their participation in the Holy Grail War.

Thus, the clues became clear. The problem was that the Conqueror King almost always stayed by his Master Webber Vervitt’s side.

”Found it, a small village near Fuyuki City, huh.”

For Su Xiao, familiar with the original story, defeating all the Heroic Spirits was challenging, but locating some Masters through clues wasn’t hard, of course, excluding crafty ones like Emiya Kiritsugu.

Finding Webber Vervitt means the locations of the remaining two Masters can be tracked using temporary skills, greatly increasing the probability of completing the hidden task.
