Chapter 716: Chapter 26: Successful Breakthrough

Swoosh～

A howling wind rushed from behind Su Xiao, making his pupils shrink. Instinct told him it was too late to turn around now.

The Counter Shield formed around Su Xiao the instant it did, that bone spear stabbed into the Counter Shield.

Thud!

A deafening sound rang out, echoing in Su Xiao’s ears, and a shockwave spread behind him, accompanied by an irresistible force.

Su Xiao’s body flew forward at an incredible speed, as if hit by a speeding train.

Bang.

Su Xiao crashed into a room in the Main Hall, but that wasn’t the end; he immediately crashed out the other side of the room, yet even then, his momentum didn’t stop, continuing to fly uncontrollably forward.

Bang, bang...

After crashing through three buildings, Su Xiao landed in a flowerbed. Dirt and grass clods flew several meters high, and his forward momentum finally ceased, leaving the flowerbed in deathly silence.

At the gate leading from the Dharma Hall to the Main Hall area, the Resentful Servant Leader slumped on the ground, his right side already shriveled. Even so, he commanded the nearby ordinary Resentful Servants to help him up, eyeing the flowerbed where Su Xiao was from afar.

”Master, the invader should be dead.”

”I hope so.”

The Resentful Servant Leader stared intently at the flowerbed, worried the enemy wasn’t dead because he couldn’t enter the Main Hall himself, as per his master’s orders.

”Ha!”

Flat Head Brother paced at the shattered gate, seemingly wanting to go in and chase Su Xiao. Just as all the Resentful Servants focused on the flowerbed, a hand reached out from within it.

Although the Counter Shield offered comprehensive protection, Su Xiao was still dizzy from the impact. Without the shield blocking, his flesh and blood could never withstand such a blow; that bone spear just now could even potentially one-shot kill a Heroic Spirit.

A burning sensation spread across his back, and his whole skeleton felt as if it would fall apart. Despite feeling terrible, Su Xiao had to shake off the pursuers quickly, or he was doomed.

As Su stood up, preparing to delve into the Main Hall area, he noticed the Resentful Servants only watched him from afar, not stepping into the Main Hall area.

Seeing this, Su Xiao quickly speculated on what was happening: something in the Main Hall area frightened the Resentful Servants, or it was the Resentful Servant Leader’s command.

Su Xiao leaned more towards the latter because one of Flat Head Brother’s front paws had already crossed into the Main Hall area.

”Sharp Tooth, what are you doing, are you trying to...”

”Ha!”

Flat Head Brother turned and bared its teeth at the Resentful Servant Leader, stepping both front paws into the Main Hall area.

”You...”

While the Resentful Servant Leader and Flat Head Brother faced off, the ordinary Resentful Servants weren’t idle, generating various projectile weapons with their exoskeletons and hurling them at Su Xiao.

The Counter Shield floating around Su Xiao was pounded with clangs, showcasing the benefits of a strong defense ability.

Ignoring the Resentful Servants, Su Xiao quickly headed deeper into the Main Hall area.

Seeing the rapidly departing Su Xiao, Flat Head Brother, pacing at the gate, was enraged, recklessly charging into the Main Hall area in pursuit of Su Xiao.

”Daring to defy the master’s orders...”

The Resentful Servant Leader sprouted a bone spear from his left hand. His whole body muscles bulged, though he was near exhaustion.

Flat Head Brother, quick in its chase of Su Xiao, stopped, turning to look at the Resentful Servant Leader.

Swoosh～

A bone spear with a terrifying howl flew towards Flat Head Brother.

Boom!

Debris flew as the bone spear struck the ground beside Flat Head Brother, creating a huge pit. The debris grazed Flat Head Brother’s fur as it flew past.

The Resentful Servant Leader staggered a few steps before collapsing, unable to defy the master’s wishes, though he ’missed the shot’ intentionally.

Flat Head Brother nodded to the Resentful Servant Leader, turned, and dashed in Su Xiao’s direction, declaring that today, only one could survive, and even God couldn’t save the other, as Flat Head Brother put it.

In the center courtyard of the Main Hall area, Su Xiao arrived but wasn’t immediately sure where to go; the mission information was too vague, and he had to find the specific location of the Soul Lamp himself.

The good news was that the courtyard of the Main Hall area was eerily quiet, with no trace of enemies.

Just then, footsteps turned behind Su Xiao. He looked sideways, finding Flat Head Brother already in pursuit.

Flat Head Brother abruptly braked, flicking its tail and stopping not far from Su Xiao, baring its sharp teeth.

Su Xiao and Flat Head Brother stared at each other for a few seconds before both simultaneously charged towards one another.

According to Su Xiao’s estimate, Flat Head Brother should be a creature of the same level as the Resentful Servant Leader, with the Resentful Servant Leader in charge of the Main Palace area and Flat Head Brother responsible for guarding the Dharma Hall.

The Counter Shield drifted beside Su Xiao as Flat Head Brother, tiger-sized, was enveloped in exoskeleton. Unlike ordinary Resentment Creatures, Flat Head Brother’s exoskeleton was black, covering its entire body, with only its eyes exposed.

Peculiarly, Flat Head Brother had a spot of white exoskeleton—its head.

Su Xiao and Flat Head Brother closed in, and Dragon Slash cleaved forward, creating a light gold slash mark in the air, aiming directly for Flat Head Brother’s head.

Flat Head Brother was substantially startled by the speed of the strike, hurriedly ducking.

Ting.

A piece of white exoskeleton was sliced off, precisely the piece atop Flat Head Brother’s head. Now, Flat Head Brother’s white fur was cut down, truly making it a bald head.

Ordinary Flat Head Brothers, even the size of medium-sized dogs, dare to fight fierce animals like lions and hunting dogs, let alone Flat Head Brother as a Resentment Creature.

This Flat Head Brother was not only larger in size but had strong attributes and was, at the very least, not weaker than Su Xiao.

The long knife slashed past, and though it almost sliced its head off, Flat Head Brother was indifferent, biting towards Su Xiao.

The Counter Shield rushed to meet it, and Flat Head Brother bit into the Counter Shield.

With a crunch, Flat Head Brother bit through a chunk of the Counter Shield, surprising Su Xiao slightly.

Undoubtedly, Flat Head Brother’s bite force was terrifying, managing to pierce a 400-strength Counter Shield, spelling disaster if it were to bite muscle or bone.

Su Xiao became more cautious, sidestepping as he began his standoff with Flat Head Brother.

Flat Head Brother spat out the Counter Shield fragment, touching its head only to find its iconic white fur was chopped, enraging it to tremble.

”Ha!”

Flat Head Brother bared its teeth at Su Xiao, eyeing Dragon Slash intently.

Su Xiao didn’t waste any words with Flat Head Brother; he needed to find the Soul Lamp quickly to complete the Talent Awakening Task.

Flat Head Brother extended its sharp claws, and with a push, charged straight at Su Xiao.

Su Xiao stepped back two steps, not wanting to get bitten by this creature, as being bitten off at the limbs would be troublesome.

As Flat Head Brother closed within two meters, Su Xiao made a tentative strike, planning to push Flat Head Brother back; once it dodged his cleave, he had already thought of his next few attacks.

Just as the long knife slashed at Flat Head Brother’s neck, a sudden change occurred—a mutation, as Flat Head Brother turned its head to bite into the blade of Dragon Slash, intending to bite it off. Unfortunately, the Dragon Slash, reinforced to +12, was extremely tough. Upon realizing this, Flat Head Brother curled its entire body around Dragon Slash like a ball, wrapping it tightly.

Su Xiao was stunned for a moment, internally wondering what kind of move this was?

After a brief hesitation, Su Xiao swung the knife towards the ground, intending to cleave Flat Head Brother, which was biting Dragon Slash, into two.

Boom!

Dragon Slash struck the ground, creating a large pit. When the dust settled, Flat Head Brother was unharmed, still coiled around Dragon Slash, like a black ring wrapped around it.
