Chapter 744: Chapter 54: Toshiomi’s Heartache

”Berserker, Saber, Assassin.”

The Conqueror King spoke as everyone fell silent.

”Continuing this standoff is pointless. Although a battle is inevitable between us, to fight now would be reckless.”

The Conqueror King implied that tonight should end here.

”Agreed.”

Saber concurred with the Conqueror King’s perspective. With her substitute Master present, the likelihood of any Master surviving a chaotic battle was slim.

”No objections.”

Hassan Sabbah (Faceless), in the Assassin class, also aligned with the Conqueror King. Having failed in assassination and having his aura locked by other Heroic Spirits, retreat was the best choice now.

All three Heroic Spirits turned their attention to Su Xiao because his aura was the most dangerous.

”End it here?”

Su Xiao hesitated for a moment, returning Dragon Slash to its sheath. He sheathed his sword but gave no verbal confirmation.

”If that’s the case, then we...”

Before the Conqueror King could complete his sentence, the image of Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) gradually faded. This was not the Heroic Spirit’s spiritualization ability, but the A+ ranked skill of Faceless: Breath Interruption.

Breath Interruption (A+): Completely conceals one’s aura. However, when entering attack mode, the rank of Breath Interruption significantly decreases.

The sudden use of Breath Interruption by Faceless made the Conqueror King and Saber wary. Saber, along with her substitute Master, promptly retreated and vanished into the abandoned factory.

The Conqueror King acted more directly. Blue lightning flashed, manifesting an ancient war chariot, his Noble Phantasm, Kamui Wheels + Thunder Bulls.

The Conqueror King grabbed his Master with one hand, and both jumped onto the chariot. With a flick of the reins, the Thunder Bulls raised their hooves and charged forward.

Rumble.

The chariot made an imposing roar, leaving two tracks along the road and blue sparks flickering along the tracks.

Faceless’s sudden aura concealment undoubtedly displeased the Conqueror King and Saber, whose Masters were still present. What did suddenly hiding his aura imply—an attempt to assassinate their Masters?

Only Su Xiao remained at the scene. Would he let all three of them leave? Certainly not.

The Eye of the Apostle floated in the air. As reconnaissance equipment of Light Golden Quality, it locked onto Hassan Sabbah (Faceless), even after he employed Breath Interruption.

Equipment Effect 3: Air Guard (Active): The Eye of the Apostle floats in mid-air or at high altitude, scanning a radius of half a kilometer. Any suspicious beings entering this range triggers an alert from the Eye of the Apostle.

Notice: Air Guard (Active) consumes 120 Mana per use, lasting 12 hours.

Notice: Air Guard (Active) can detect eighty-two stealth abilities, including invisibility, perception blockage, underground stealth, and magic energy shielding.

Notice: Cooldown for Air Guard (Active) is 24 hours.

...

Breathe Interruption might appear formidable at A+, but in reality, it isn’t. Had Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) used Breath Interruption in advance, capturing his trail would be challenging for the Eye of the Apostle.

Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) activated Breath Interruption while the Eye of the Apostle was scanning, so avoiding its detection was indeed improbable.

Su Xiao connected his spiritual power with the Eye of the Apostle, causing a red silhouette to emerge 300 meters away. It seemed Su Xiao had acquired X-ray vision, while in truth, it was the Eye of the Apostle relaying enemy position information.

For Su Xiao, with his ’X-ray’ vision active, the hidden assassin Faceless was in for a tough time.

...

Clad in all black, wearing a white skeleton mask, Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) moved through the night. Nighttime was his domain, whether in life or as a Heroic Spirit.

Under normal circumstances, Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) would rendezvous with his Master, Kirei Kotomine.

Kirei Kotomine was the son of Kotomine Lisei, also known as the Old Priest.

The Old Priest had once aided Su Xiao, and given their relationship, Su Xiao shouldn’t have targeted Hassan Sabbah (Faceless) first, as he was the Heroic Spirit of the Old Priest’s son, belonging to the Old Priest’s faction.

But is that the reality? Not at all. Kotomine Lisei’s son, Kirei Kotomine, has a flawed character. According to source details, Kirei Kotomine is not in the same faction as his father, the Old Priest.

Moreover, the source material reveals that the Old Priest was shot to death. When Kirei Kotomine saw his father’s corpse, he displayed no emotion. More absurdly, Kirei Kotomine even felt slightly disappointed, wondering why the Old Priest wasn’t killed by his own hand, as the Old Priest didn’t understand him.

Ridiculous? Whether it is or isn’t is uncertain, but Kirei Kotomine’s character clearly shows his only apparent faction alignment with the Old Priest. In truth, it’s a one-sided relationship where the Old Priest sees Kirei Kotomine as his trusted ally.

Currently, the Old Priest remains oblivious to his son’s true nature. To him, Kirei Kotomine embodies integrity, excelling in all areas, making him the ideal successor.

If the Old Priest were to obtain the Holy Grail, he might refrain from sharing it with his ally, Tokiomi Tohsaka, but would certainly share it with his son, Kirei Kotomine.

On the surface, the Old Priest’s camp includes himself (Holy Grail War Supervisor), Kirei Kotomine (Assassin faction), and Tokiomi Tohsaka (Archer faction).

Kirei Kotomine’s Servant is Hassan Sabbah (Faceless). Tokiomi Tohsaka’s Servant is the King of Heroes.

Adding up, the Old Priest’s camp appears the strongest in this Holy Grail War. Unfortunately, the Old Priest’s faction consists of two groups. ℯℯ𝑙.

One group: the Old Priest and Tokiomi Tohsaka, lacking a Heroic Spirit. These two, though not sincere collaborators, have a no-backstabbing agreement pre-final battle.

The second group: Kirei Kotomine and the King of Heroes. While Kirei hasn’t become the Master, he finds Kirei more intriguing than Tokiomi, constantly egging Kirei to kill Tokiomi. Interestingly, Kirei has recently apprenticed under Tokiomi Tohsaka, making them Master and disciple—a move suggested by the Old Priest to solidify the alliance.

Tokiomi Tohsaka is quite miserable, constantly harassed by ’Berserker’ Matou Yanye, not to mention his disciple, Kirei Kotomine, considering killing him.

The threat from these two is moderate. Tonight, Toshiomi used a command seal to order the King of Heroes to retreat, further strengthening the King’s resolve to kill Tohsaka. As Matou Yanye aptly put it, it was all Tooks’ fault.

Su Xiao wasn’t sure if Tokiomi had any faults, but he knew that Tokiomi would inevitably take the blame.

Under the watchful eyes of Matou Yanye, Kirei Kotomine, and the King of Heroes, it was uncertain how long Tokiomi could survive. Surely not much longer.

Who among them will strike first? Su Xiao favored Matou Yanye, since his persistence led his Berserk-provoked outbursts to focus solely on the words ’Tokiomi, Sakura.’

Trailing Faceless, the corners of Su Xiao’s mouth curled upward. The Holy Grail War was becoming increasingly engrossing. The Heroic Spirits weren’t fighting intensely, but the clash among the Masters was about to ignite.
