Chapter 719: Chapter 29: Recruitment?

Thud, the air blast spread, and the muscle curved knife slammed into the counter shield.

Su Xiao’s legs sank deep into the ground, the surface instantly shattered. He just wanted to raise his hand to strike with his knife when a surge of enormous power gushed out from the muscle curved knife.

Su Xiao was a bit surprised. The cleaving power of the Resentful Orphan·Hughes had already been resisted by him. What was this second surge of force?

Su Xiao had no time to think more, he had already been hit by the muscle curved knife and sent flying.

Bang.

Protected inside the counter shield, Su Xiao crashed into a wall. Because of the barrier, the wall was unusually stiff, which wasn’t good as it caused collision injuries to him.

Su Xiao had just landed and hadn’t had a chance to stand up when the Resentful Orphan·Hughes rushed up again, raising the muscle curved knife in his hand with the stance of pounding Su Xiao flat.

Zi～

The boundary line wrapped around the Resentful Orphan·Hughes, freezing its motion of swinging the muscle curved knife.

Taking the opportunity, Su Xiao slapped the ground with his hand to get up, simultaneously leaping away from the Resentful Orphan·Hughes.

The Resentful Orphan·Hughes glanced down at the boundary line entangling it, and its arms began to exert force.

Crack, crack...

The boundary line shattered, falling at the feet of the Resentful Orphan·Hughes, with about one-third of the boundary line being discarded.

Su Xiao retrieved the remaining two-thirds of the boundary line. The enemy he was facing this time was so formidable it left people astonished, but luckily not to the point of despair.

Firstly, the Resentful Orphan·Hughes couldn’t break the counter shield in one hit, and its speed wasn’t so fast that Su Xiao couldn’t react at all.

The most crucial issue now was whether Su Xiao could injure the Resentful Orphan·Hughes. If the opponent’s defense was extremely strong, then Su Xiao basically couldn’t keep fighting; within half an hour, he’d be pounded into a pulp.

Blood dripped from the corner of Su Xiao’s mouth as he began to actively approach the Resentful Orphan·Hughes.

Seeing Su Xiao’s actions, Hughes was clearly a bit surprised. It hadn’t seen this kind of fearless human for a long time, so it boldly charged at Su Xiao.

Su Xiao’s pupils slightly shrank, trying his best to capture Hughes’s movements.

Boom!

The muscle curved knife smashed down directly, even with the counter shield defense, Su Xiao’s knees began to bend.

”Mortal, kneel!”

The Resentful Orphan·Hughes tightly gripped the muscle curved knife with both hands, trying to use brute force to press Su Xiao to his knees.

Upon realizing this, Su Xiao immediately shifted sideways, causing the surrounding counter shield to spread out. Without the counter shield blocking, the muscle curved knife smashed down.

Boom, stones splashed everywhere. Each strike from the Resentful Orphan·Hughes was immensely powerful, enough to take a life.

Taking advantage of the gap when the muscle curved knife swung down, Su Xiao slashed forward with a strike.

The long knife sliced through the air, instantly appearing before the Resentful Orphan·Hughes, causing it to immediately turn its head sideways.

Zheng.

The Dragon Slash barely grazed Hughes’s skull, slicing off a thin piece of bone.

Seeing this scene, Su Xiao’s eyes shone brightly. The enemy’s defensive power wasn’t as exaggerated as he’d imagined, which meant he could fight back.

Being slashed by Su Xiao, Hughes stood in place, looking at the piece of skull fragment by its feet, the mockery in its eyes disappearing.

If previously Su Xiao was like a struggling house cat in Hughes’s eyes, now he was as dangerous as a wolf capable of biting it.

”Mere mor-”

The Resentful Orphan·Hughes’s words were not finished when Su Xiao had already rushed forward.

This time, Su Xiao removed the counter shield around him. Although the counter shield could block enemy attacks, it also increased the area of enemy attack, especially when facing an opponent using blunt weapons.

From a certain perspective, blunt weapons somewhat countered the counter shield. Every time the counter shield was hit, Su Xiao would suffer from the concussion force.

Already having an aura that eroded 5% life value per minute, if hit by the concussion force several times, Su Xiao wouldn’t last even five minutes.

Instead of waiting for a slow death, Su Xiao chose to risk everything and actively removed his defense.

Su Xiao actively approached Hughes, whose eyes seemed to flash with cunning success. The muscle curved knife in its hand was not just a blunt weapon; this thing could devour the enemy’s flesh and blood, provided it directly hit the enemy. So it only needed to hit the enemy once to declare the battle over.

Hughes still used its original move, raising the muscle curved knife in its hand and smashing it down overhead.

This time, Su Xiao didn’t focus on the muscle curved knife but instead kept his eyes fixed on Hughes. The speed of the muscle curved knife was too fast, and using his naked eyes to capture it was unwise, so he started using his perception for early warning.

The muscle curved knife smashed down, and Su Xiao’s steps sidestepped.

Boom.

The muscle curved knife hit the ground, and Su Xiao barely escaped. The gale from it made his windbreaker flap loudly.

Though it looked elegant, Su Xiao was effectively dancing on the tip of a knife. Given the force of the muscle curved knife, being hit even once would be fatal, and it was very likely this thing had other abilities attached.

Su Xiao’s Dragon Slash flashed over Hughes’s ribs with a slicing sound, leaving a not-so-shallow slash mark on those ribs that even sparked, as the Blue Steel Shadow energy invaded Hughes’s body.

Hughes grunted from the pain, its eyes filled with rage; the Blue Steel Shadow energy had hurt it badly.

Having landed a hit, Su Xiao withdrew.

It was clear that Su Xiao’s decision to remove his defense and rely on his perception to dodge Hughes attacks before striking back was not wrong, although the risk of doing so was extremely high.

The roaring sounded continuously inside the main hall. Hughes, holding the muscle curved knife, chased after Su Xiao with a determination to fight to the death.

Meanwhile, Su Xiao was trying his best to dodge Hughes’s attacks, counterattacking whenever he got the chance and continuing to dodge when he didn’t. Previously, while he was being suppressed, somehow Su Xiao had gained the upper hand.

But was that the true situation? Not really, as long as Hughes hit Su Xiao once, the fight would be over, plus with the aura ability’s erosion, Su Xiao’s life value was decreasing faster than Hughes’s.

The Life Value in Reincarnation Paradise wasn’t like health in a game. In games, even if your health drops to just 1%, it doesn’t affect your state. After three minutes of battle, with his life value down to just 42%, Su Xiao’s speed had noticeably slowed, with sharp pains continuously emerging from all over his body due to the aura’s erosion.

Su Xiao had at least dozens of wounds on his body, all abrasions from being grazed by debris. The debris from Hughes’s attacks had power not less than that of a rifle bullet.

Hoo～

The muscle curved knife came smashing down, and Su Xiao crouched to dodge it. Just as he was about to counterattack, a burst of sharp pain erupted from within his chest, pausing his motion.

Uh oh!

Su Xiao’s pupils tightened; this momentary mistake could cost him his life.

Hughes also noticed Su Xiao’s error, immediately letting go of the strength-exhausted muscle curved knife and lunging with its bone arms that spanned three meters wide to grab Su Xiao.

If he was caught, with Hughes’s monstrous strength, Su Xiao would be dead for sure.

The reach of this grab was massive, with no place to dodge. At this critical moment, Su Xiao constructed a 300-point strength barrel-shaped energy shield around him.

Bang, Hughes embraced the energy shield surrounding Su Xiao, who then leapt upwards and exited from the top opening of the barrel-shaped energy shield.

Pale bone spurs protruded from Hughes’s arms and chest, these bone spurs were extremely sharp, instantly piercing the energy shield full of holes, a skill of Hughes, which had massive power but a long cooldown.

With a crack, the energy shield shattered, and the bone spurs on Hughes’s body started to shed.

Su Xiao evaded the disaster with a Golden Cicada Shell escape, at the cost of 300 mana points.

”You... are not bad.”

Hughes picked up the muscle curved knife from the ground and glanced at the slash marks on its bones, nodding.

”Human, I acknowledge your strength. I give you a chance to pledge loyalty to me and amend your past mistakes with your future actions.”

Just as Hughes finished speaking, Su Xiao unexpectedly received a notification from Reincarnation Paradise.

[Notification: The Hunter has been recruited by the ’Lord Level Creature’ Resentful Orphan·Hughes. If you agree to the recruitment, you will become the servant of the Resentful Orphan·Hughes within this Derivative World.]

[Notification: If you agree to the recruitment, the completion of the Talent Awakening Task will drop significantly.]

Since Reincarnation Paradise issued a notification, it indicated this was a chance to survive, albeit a degrading one.

”I refuse.”

Su Xiao brandished the long knife in his hand. Today, there were only two possible outcomes, either the enemy dies, or he himself falls.
