Chapter 739: Chapter 49: Slaughter

Su Xiao quietly awaited the transformation of his body. In the past, using an enhancement potion always came with severe pain, but after the baptism of talent awakening, now he would only smile slightly at the intense pain of enhancement, never flinching.

Five minutes later, Su Xiao suddenly smiled, startling Bubu Wang beside him. Its gaze seemed to say, ”Master, what’s wrong with you? Suddenly smiling like that is terrifying, don’t scare me.”

”Hahaha.”

Su Xiao laughed heartily against his usual demeanor, and Bubu Wang’s fur puffed up in fright.

”I’m... excited, probably due to the enhancement potion.”

This time, using the enhancement potion didn’t cause any pain. Su Xiao only felt a slight warmth in his body and a heightened sense of excitement.

Being excited was not too severe of a mental change. As long as he concentrated, Su Xiao’s willpower was enough to resist this excitement.

Half an hour later, Su Xiao’s expression returned to calm, the excitement faded, and the effect of the enhancement potion manifested. He clearly felt his body strengthened.

Clenching both fists, kakakaka~ a terrifying power surged within his body. Including equipment bonuses, his power attribute had already reached 65 points.

With a power attribute of 65 points, he could do many things. If he punched with full force, he could make a big hole in steel. Of course, this is the destructive power without skill and weapon bonuses.

Fists were not the weapon Su Xiao was adept at. If he used a blade, steel would be as fragile as tofu before him, showcasing the power of attributes + skills + weapons.

Not only had his strength increased, but improvements in agility and stamina attributes were also evident, more so in the increased nerve reflex speed.

A faster nerve reflex speed allowed Su Xiao to capture the enemy’s movement path, attack trajectory, etc., its importance self-evident.

Three items had all been put away or used. Su Xiao picked up the last item. It was a weapon, a short knife about 50 cm long with a cold glint.

The blade of this short knife was straight, without a guard. The handle was wrapped in some kind of animal skin, black in color. It felt handy in his grip, with the whole knife perfectly balanced and not lightweight, but with Su Xiao’s power attribute, it seemed very manageable.

...

Slaughter spun in Su Xiao’s hand, creating patterns in the air as if he disregarded the warning in this knife’s introduction. He was unclear on the specific value of his willpower but knew it must exceed 18 points. The equipment requirement for the Will of Fire was 15 points of willpower, and when he wore the Will of Fire, there was no rejection, indicating his willpower attribute was at least over 20 points.

The Slaughter dagger was very sharp. Although its sharpness couldn’t reach that of Dragon Slash, Dragon Slash was after all crafted by Su Xiao with hefty investment.

Nevertheless, the sharpness of this short knife was not to be underestimated, with sharpness +14, armor break +10, and penetration +9, which together significantly enhanced the knife’s sharpness.

”Throat cutting, huh.”

Su Xiao tossed the short knife in his hand. Although he used a long knife regularly, he was also proficient with short knives. His Sword Technique Master was at LV.30. If he couldn’t handle a short knife skillfully, that skill would be too useless.

Su Xiao decided to keep this knife because Dragon Slash was somewhat ineffective in close-quarters combat. Previously, he had obtained a golden quality dagger, but unfortunately, that dagger was not classified as a knife. The usage methods of daggers and knife-type weapons were vastly different.

This short knife was not his main weapon but a secondary weapon. A characteristic of secondary weapons is that they can’t receive the full bonus from basic skills, usually about 90%~95%.

While the attributes of this knife were astounding, other users might find the inability to fully receive basic skill bonuses frustrating, but Su Xiao didn’t mind this at all.

Secondary weapons have their own advantages. Most secondary weapons are easy to carry or enhance weapon-switching speed. For example, while he is fighting using Dragon Slash, this short knife might be stored in his storage space. If this short knife were not a secondary weapon, switching between the two would incur a slight delay. With bonus switching speed, this delay becomes negligible.

Normally, he fought enemies with Dragon Slash. However, when enemies got close, this knife turned into a lethal tool.

A cut to the throat, even if the enemy is tank, would be tortured by additional damage and bleeding effects enough to question life itself.

Su Xiao had experienced the awkwardness of being engaged in close quarters more than once. Just recently, the third-tier contractor Butterfly engaged in close combat with him. Due to Dragon Slash’s length, Su Xiao could only hold the knife in a reverse grip and was unable to slash effectively, merely being able to wound the opponent.

With [Slaughter] now, Su Xiao would find himself remaining much more composed if engaged in close quarters. Switching to a short knife, he could slash, cut, or stab as needed. Moreover, this short knife was a golden quality weapon, not weaker than the [Bian’s Dagger] he once acquired, and perhaps even stronger.

[Bian’s Dagger] featured toxin + penetration, whereas [Slaughter] featured instant death + sharpness. Both have their strengths, but [Slaughter]’s rating was 10 points higher than [Bian’s Dagger], and its attack power was also slightly higher.

Putting away [Slaughter], the benefits gained from the golden treasure box flash were truly astounding, enough to make Su Xiao’s heart race a bit. Where would his luck be exhausted with such a large gain? Could he choke on a sip of cold water?

Su Xiao heaved a long sigh. Thinking about it was meaningless; he had already received the benefits. Whatever happened afterward was left to fate.

Su Xiao looked at the Scarlet Card beside him. Given his current level of drained luck, the odds of drawing something good weren’t high.

”Bubu. It’s your turn.”

He tossed the Scarlet Card, and Bubu Wang caught it in his mouth.

Kaka~

A crisp sound came from beneath Su Xiao. The bed under him collapsed...

Bubu Wang was startled, subtly backing away while sitting on the ground.

”Is this when the bad luck starts?”

Su Xiao sat on the split-legged bed. He had no desire to sit on the nearby intact chair, unsure of what might happen if he did.
