Chapter 1424: Chapter 1423: The Times Have Changed

”This is... modern warfare...”

Standing on the Mage Tower, staring at the pitch-black land before him, the Chief of Shaping Type couldn’t help but take a deep breath. The effect of such an attack could be achieved by mages too. He could, with the amplification from the Mage Tower of the Shaping Type, if he used all his strength, he could similarly turn this land into rubble.

But the problem is, this is a one-time thing. If he uses such a Legendary Rank spell, he estimates he’d be paralyzed for a hundred or eighty days to recover.

However, for the Heavenly Dao Palace, this was just a round of bombardment from near-Earth orbit.

”What’s wrong, kid?”

Just at this moment, an immature voice came from beside the Chief of Shaping Type. Turning his head, he saw the Chief of Necromancy Class, with white hair and red eyes, appearing barely over ten years old, staring at him.

”You look half-dead.”

”Master Colette...”

Hearing the words from the Chief of Necromancy Class, the Chief of Shaping Type displayed a bitter smile, rubbed his bald head, and once again gazed at the battlefield in front of him.

”It’s nothing. I just feel... the times have changed...”

Speaking of this, the Chief of Shaping Type sighed deeply. Shaping Type spells value power the most, and because of this, the scene before him affected him the most. As the Chief of Shaping Type, one of the most powerful Legendary Mages on the continent, he only possessed his current abilities. But even for him to create the scene before them would require all his might.

However, for the Heavenly Dao Palace, this was just an ordinary attack. If they wanted, they could come with another round, ten rounds, or however many they pleased... And these warships were still outside the continent...

The Chief of Shaping Type knew the position of those warships, and precisely because of that, the scene before him became even more shocking. He also had a Mage Tower on the near-Earth orbit for observation and experimentation, so he knew how high that was. It’s hard to say if there’s any existence on the continent that could pose a threat to those warships.

If the Heavenly Dao Palace became their enemy...

Thinking of this, the Chief of Shaping Type’s mind was immediately filled with scenes of scorching energy beams descending from the sky, the ground cracking, seas boiling. Soldiers in panic jumping off their horses, desperately raising their longbows towards the sky, but no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t even see a shadow of their opponent...

Even he, in such a war, would likely play no role at all...

The Chief of Shaping Type stared dazedly at the scene before him, slightly lost. He had confidence in the Magitech Nation; doing magitech and research is quite similar; it’s mostly about figuring the right direction, and once that’s found, everything else isn’t an issue.

Like his ”observation station” in near-Earth orbit, previously, the Chief of Shaping Type didn’t know it was possible to reach such heights. But after seeing Fang Zheng’s fleet, he was able to easily use his magic knowledge to mimic and create a ”space station.”

However, in this kind of war, there’s very little a mage could do. At that time, where would Shaping Type Mages go?

Unlike the Chief of Shaping Type, who contemplated the future of life, Colette looked at the battlefield with great interest. As the Chief of Necromancy Class, she wasn’t worried about any impact of such developments on her. In fact, at the soul level of research, even the Reaper and the Pioneer couldn’t compare to Colette, this Chief of Necromancy Class. The Forerunner made a recombination device for soul reconstruction that ultimately failed, but in Colette’s hands, creating a divine artifact with the same function wasn’t hard, and the success rate would still be 100%...

For Necromancy Mages, extracting souls and injecting them into inorganic bodies was practically a required course.

Without considering moral risks and safety issues, the success rate would be a thousand percent.

”Alright, we’ve seen enough commotion; it’s time we make a move too.”

As she spoke, Colette’s petite body slowly floated up.

”We can’t attack those above, but we can handle the ones below. Otherwise, when the Twilight Frontier is reclaimed, people might say the Magitech Nation is full of good-for-nothings.”

Hearing this, the Chief of Shaping Type’s expression was somewhat complex.

At first, they truly believed themselves to be the main force in this war. After all, throughout history, mages have always been indispensable core figures in a war. Some powerful mages alone could determine the outcome of a war, but in this place, that rule lost its effect.

Even with Fang Zheng’s abilities, having already touched upon Nine-Ring Spells and relying on support from the Origin and the Third Magic, Fang Zheng could cast spells not inferior to those of a Legendary Mage, yet had no effect on the Chaos Knights. The outcome facing those Chiefs against the Chaos Knights was foreseeable.

Conversely, the Holy Knights of the Kingdom of the Holy Church, relying on their strength, could somewhat withstand the Chaos Knights’ onslaught.

This left the Chief of Shaping Type somewhat embarrassed. Traditionally, on the continent, wars were fought with the mundane soldiers against mundane soldiers, mages against the boss-level entities, and now had evolved to mages clearing mundane soldiers...

Let alone, even in clearing mundane soldiers, they couldn’t do it as fast as the Heavenly Dao Palace.

If before personally participating in the Twilight Frontier war, the chiefs of the Magitech Nation were contemplating how to turn the tables, now their only thought was not to be marginalized...

Otherwise, as Legendary Mages, they would lose all face!

Of course, the Prophecy System, Enchantment School, and Transmutation mentors might not care since these magic schools don’t primarily serve combat purposes. But as the Chief of Shaping Type, if he couldn’t perform in this area, where would his old face go?

Thinking of this, the Chief of Shaping Type gritted his teeth and flew forward.

Meanwhile, the battle in the sky continued.

”The third one!!”

Accompanied by Fang Zheng’s roar, the pitch black greatsword in his hand swung forward again, slashing toward the Chaos Knight in front of him. Faced with Fang Zheng’s attack, the Chaos Knight didn’t dare to confront it head-on. He directly flipped from his horse, rolling off while discarding his long spear, and drew a sword from his waist, thrusting it toward Fang Zheng.

”Yukiko!”

As soon as Fang Zheng’s words fell, he saw Shizaki Sachiko appear silently behind the Chaos Knight, reaching out to cover the Chaos Knight’s eyes. At the same time, Fang Zheng raised his sword and brought it down, slicing off the Chaos Knight’s arm. Yukiko immediately dodged away, and Fang Zheng’s greatsword smoothly thrust forward, directly piercing the opponent’s throat. With the explosive Primordial Fire, in the blink of an eye, the Chaos Knight in front of him was incinerated completely.

After being blessed with ”Destiny,” the battle between Fang Zheng and the Chaos Knights became relatively simple. Although he still hadn’t encountered the Knights’ Order leader he fought to the death with that day, until now, Fang Zheng had cut down three Chaos Knights in a row and had gained some understanding of them.

To put it simply, these ordinary Chaos Knights, apart from having a ”Main World Order Attack Immunity and Damage Reduction” buff, didn’t have anything particularly powerful. Their physical qualities and combat strength were around Legendary Rank, but due to the chaos corruption, they couldn’t use the ”Domain” and ”Rules” attacks of Legendary Powerhouses, which significantly reduced their threat.

However, this is only relative.

Don’t underestimate these ordinary Chaos Knights. Apart from a little strength of their own, the rest are chaos enhancements, and even so, they had the eight Chiefs of the Magitech Nation scrambling for cover. They even had to seek the help of High Tier Paladins from the Kingdom of the Holy Church to save their lives, which shows how terribly strong this ”enhancement” is.

And through this period of battle, Fang Zheng gradually figured out the strength of the Chaos Knights.

Simply put, as long as you are blessed with the destiny of another world, you can battle the Chaos Knights. However, even so, this ”battle” has its levels.

Take Fang Zheng, for example, endowed with the main character aura, coupled with his own strength, he directly cuts through opponents as if they were vegetables and ignores the Chaos shelter as if it were nothing.

But if you’re a bit weaker, like a support character or a secondary protagonist, the destiny’s favor decreases, requiring your own strength to make up for it.

Take Anzu and Akemi Homura, for instance. Both are Magical Girls from the Magical Girl World, yet Akemi Homura can suppress those Chaos Knights with an AK47 until they can’t lift their heads, whereas Anzu opens up big but can only trip the opponents.

This is the energy difference between ”main character’s destiny” and ”support character’s destiny.”

Further down, those less well-known magical girls find it even harder to fight. Often, it takes six or seven of them to barely hold off the attack of one Chaos Knight, and many can’t even withstand it.

But conversely, if you have the main character’s destiny from another world, even if your own strength isn’t strong, you can fight the Chaos Knights.

Shizaki Sachiko is the best example.

That’s right, when the battle started, Fang Zheng was surprised to find that Shizaki Sachiko, like himself, had the main character’s destiny!

By the Main World’s standards, Shizaki Sachiko, this Evil Spirit, doesn’t even meet the Lich’s standards. Strictly speaking, she’s just an Advanced Banshee. In the church, an Archbishop like Carl could purify her with ease, yet here, she could actually fight the Chaos Knights!

Of course, Shizaki Sachiko’s own combat power isn’t strong, but she can impose debuffs on the Chaos Knights. During battle, Shizaki Sachiko occasionally pops out from the side to blind the Chaos Knights. This coordination with Fang Zheng makes the battle fairly easy.

”Hah!!”

With a roar, Fang Zheng swung his greatsword again, scattering the burning Chaos Knight remains.

At this moment, Fang Zheng seemed to sense something and suddenly turned around!

At the same time, a dim gray radiance abruptly pierced through the clouds, shooting straight at Fang Zheng.

”Clang!!!”

The sharp long spear didn’t hit Fang Zheng’s body. The azure magic shield activated at the last moment, stopping this deadly strike. Simultaneously, a Chain Magic was triggered in front of Fang Zheng. He saw a fireball the size of a basin mixed with countless Magic Missiles bursting forth, bombarding the assailant ahead.

”Boom!!”

The pitch black figure couldn’t withstand this attack, narrowly retreating. When the smoke cleared, the first thing Fang Zheng saw was his old acquaintance, clad in black-grey armor, riding a unicorn.

”Yo, it’s been a long time, hasn’t it?”

Looking at the Chaos Knight in front of him, Fang Zheng slightly curled his lips, then raised his greatsword.

”I wonder if you like this welcome gift?”
