Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 722: Chapter 721: The Unexpected Visitor

”Little guys, I’m back!”

Walking into his room, Fang Zheng spread his arms wide, only to see the Little Fire Dragon and the kitten that had been sprawling on the table suddenly run over with great excitement. The Little Fire Dragon, yelping joyously, flung itself into Fang Zheng’s arms and affectionately rubbed its head against his cheek. The kitten, meanwhile, reached out its paws to grab onto Fang Zheng’s pants and began climbing up until it settled on his shoulder.

”Oh, I’ve missed you so much.”

After petting the Little Fire Dragon on its head, Fang Zheng then picked up the kitten, feeling the warm and soft touch in his hands... This was truly Heaven on earth. After all, life was for cuddling cats, wasn’t it? What was the point of living without cuddling cats?

”Phew...”

Sitting down in a chair, Fang Zheng finally let out a sigh of relief. Indeed, no nest of gold or silver could compare to one’s own nest of cats. Returning home to leisurely pet cats and hug the Little Fire Dragon, spending days with the little girls, that was what life was all about.

But after relaxing, there was still work that needed to be done.

With this in mind, Fang Zheng quickly opened his personal terminal and then accessed the reports and evaluations that Nymph had submitted about the state of Heavenly Dao Palace during the recent period. According to the reports, everything at Heavenly Dao Palace seemed normal. Fang Zheng had made all necessary arrangements before leaving, and with Nymph and the others having sealed off the news, the internal order of Heavenly Dao Palace had not been affected.

However, that did not mean there were no issues to be addressed.

After reading the report, Fang Zheng frowned and then contacted Nymph through the terminal.

”Nymph... what’s this about someone looking for me?”

”Ah, Master... here’s the situation...”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Nymph hurriedly began to explain.

”A month ago, a young lady came to the outskirts of our Heavenly Dao Palace, constantly shouting your name, wanting to meet you...”

”A young lady?”

Startled by Nymph’s response, Fang Zheng paused.

”Who is it?”

”That... You should come and see for yourself.”

While speaking, Nymph reached out to activate the surveillance feed. Soon, a new scene appeared before Fang Zheng. It was one of the five ”islands” he had bought, relatively larger in comparison. Of course, being relatively larger meant it was just a ”small island” of around twenty square meters.

And on this small island, a girl lay facing the sky, on the ground... Wait, she wasn’t dead, was she?

Before Fang Zheng could figure out what was happening, he saw the girl roll from one end of the island to the other and then back again. She danced and hopped around, and then once more collapsed to the ground as if she were a salted fish, rolling back and forth until...

”Splash!”

She plunged headfirst into the water.

Then, five minutes later, the girl climbed out of the sea again and started stretching and kicking... Was she mentally ill?

”Fang Zheng! Come out!”

The woman rolled around while calling out loudly once more.

”Fang Zheng, I know I was wrong, come out! I’ll give you all the treasures!”

”Fang Zheng, are you still alive?”

”Fang Zheng, I have your child!”

”Fang Zheng, I’m getting married!”

The blonde girl continued rolling around the island, shouting and calling out, then rolling into the sea again, crawling out once more... Finally, perhaps tired of her antics, she closed her eyes and fell sound asleep. Wait, that voice sounded familiar...

Fang Zheng zoomed in on the surveillance image, carefully scrutinizing the girl’s delicate features and golden curls... Hmm? Wasn’t this the Acting Pope, the Golden Dragon Girl from the Kingdom of the Holy Church? What was she doing here?

”She’s been doing the same thing here every day since half a month ago,”

Nymph said, her voice carrying a hint of helplessness.

”Considering her emotional instability, I chose not to have anyone approach her...”

It certainly didn’t seem like the behavior of someone emotionally stable. frёeωebɳovel.com

”Have you asked anyone else about it? What does Black Katie say?”

Curious, Fang Zheng couldn’t help asking. It was understandable that Nymph hadn’t met the Golden Dragon Girl, but Black Katie had, so surely she had some suggestions?

”That...”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Nymph’s expression turned slightly awkward.

”Miss Black Katie said... ’Leave her alone.’”

”...”

That did seem like something Black Katie would do.

”Never mind, I’ll go and check it out.”

With a sigh of resignation, Fang Zheng had to admit that despite his wishes to stay uninvolved with such a Golden Dragon Girl, the fact that she had abandoned her duties as the Pope to come to such a barren place and stay for half a month meant she most likely had urgent business with him. Having just returned, Fang Zheng also needed to assess the current state of the Main World, so he made some preparations and then reached out his hand. With a ”snap” of his fingers, the magic was cast.

Instantly, in the next moment, Fang Zheng found himself on the island, and not too far in front of him, the Golden Dragon Girl was sprawled out like a dead fish, motionless.

”Aaaaah, why hasn’t that stupid dragon sent any message? Could it really be over for her? No, don’t... If you’re there, say something! How am I supposed to know you’re there if you don’t speak? Look, Miss here is showing such sincerity, so just come out and see me. I won’t eat you...”

”Cough cough...”

Watching the Golden Dragon Girl looking like a pitiful little wife, Fang Zheng felt somewhat embarrassed. He cleared his throat softly, and upon hearing the sound, the Golden Dragon Girl quickly turned her head to look at Fang Zheng. After catching sight of him, her eyes widened, and she leaped up to pounce on him.

”Wow! Mr. Fang Zheng, you’ve finally appeared! I’ve missed you so much!”

”Uh... Miss Kani?”

As he looked at the Golden Dragon Girl sobbing in his arms as if overcome with emotion, Fang Zheng was baffled. He had only met her once; their relationship couldn’t be that deep. It felt as though there was some sort of torrid affair or passionate romance between them... So, without hesitation, Fang Zheng took a step back and then scrutinized her carefully.

”Is there something you need from me, Miss Kani?”

”Of course! What have you been doing all this time? I’ve been running around for you and am completely frazzled! I’ve looked for you so many times! Why didn’t you respond? What have you been up to exactly?”

”I had a small issue before, so I was temporarily unable to reply to you.”

Seeing Miss Golden Dragon’s woebegone expression, Fang Zheng sighed. He glanced around, then gestured with his hand to the side, and in no time, the Mage’s Mansion unfolded beside them. He then gestured invitingly to Miss Golden Dragon.

”Let’s discuss inside.”

”Aren’t you going to show me around the Heavenly Dao Palace? I was really looking forward to seeing it... Never mind, we’ll talk about it some other time.”

Seeing Fang Zheng summon the Mage’s Mansion, the Golden Dragon seemed to guess that he didn’t want to take her to the Heavenly Dao Palace. Previously, she might have complained, but now Kani didn’t plan to say more and simply sighed before entering the Mage’s Mansion.

The warm hearth chased away the chill outside, and Kani trembled. The next moment, her clothes, which had been soaking wet, returned to normal. At the same time, the Golden Dragon Girl’s demeanor became lively again as she took bold steps to the sofa, sat down, and without any pretense, grabbed the teapot from the table and guzzled the tea inside.

”...”

Fang Zheng thought that if this scene were to become known, the faith in the Kingdom of the Holy Church would be completely ruined by tomorrow.

”What are you looking at me for? I’m not the Pope right now!”

Perhaps sensing the implication in Fang Zheng’s gaze, the Golden Dragon Girl glared at him. After belching contentedly, she finally put the teapot back down. However, Fang Zheng was more concerned with her words than her unladylike behavior.

”You’re not the Pope?”

”That’s right.”

At this point, the Golden Dragon Girl looked bitter as she spilled everything to Fang Zheng, holding nothing back.

After the assassination attempt against Fang Zheng ended, Bishop Carl immediately reported the matter through special channels directly to the Golden Dragon Girl. Upon hearing the news, she was furious. She had just assured Fang Zheng of his safety, only for him to be attacked on her turf?

Was this a sign of disrespect towards her as the Acting Pope or towards her as the Golden Dragon?

Either way, the Golden Dragon Girl couldn’t stand for it.

However, having served as the Acting Pope for many years, she knew this couldn’t be made public. After consulting with Bishop Carl, they decided to pin the incident on the Cultists, claiming they had tried to infiltrate the Holy City on the night of the festival to cause destruction but were discovered and thwarted by Bishop Carl (which wasn’t entirely false). To uncover the mastermind behind this plot, the Pope had assigned Bishop Carl to lead the investigation.

This way, Fang Zheng wouldn’t be implicated.

But the problem was... the Pope had found out about the incident.

And so, the Golden Dragon Girl found herself in trouble.

”The Pope sealed my lair, and she threatened to auction all my treasure if she didn’t get to the bottom of the incident or if anything happened to you!”

At this juncture, the Golden Dragon Girl’s face was the picture of misery.

”How could she treat a Golden Dragon so cruelly! She’s nothing but a Demon! A Demon! How could she just take my treasure? It took me centuries of hard work to save for my dowry... Although I may have been a bit careless, it wasn’t entirely my fault. Mr. Fang Zheng, you must see that she’s being unreasonable, right?”

”Uh... Well, that does seem a bit harsh.”

Faced with the Golden Dragon Girl’s lament, Fang Zheng’s face twitched...

”Let’s not talk about that now; it’s pointless.”

Perhaps having found someone to vent to, the Golden Dragon Girl seemed to calm down again.

”But thankfully, I’ve managed to find some clues.”

”Oh?”

At this, Fang Zheng focused intently. He had no intention of letting the mastermind get away, and now it seemed he might have a chance to strike.

”What clues?”

”Hm... Based on my investigation, I can confirm that the assassination attempt against you, Mr. Fang Zheng...”

The Golden Dragon paused for a while, then looked seriously at Fang Zheng.

”It must have been orchestrated by a Demon.”
