Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 719: Chapter 718: Upgrade to System Version 2.0 is Launched!

The Vortex of Origin.

It’s the place that Magicians spend their lives striving to reach, the ultimate pursuit of all they desire.

However, if you asked Fang Zheng to describe what was there, he would have only one thing to say.

There was nothing.

This was the origin of everything and also its end. Because it had everything, it also had nothing.

”This really seems like an utterly desolate place no matter how you look at it,” Fang Zheng muttered.

Suspended in the endless void, Fang Zheng looked at the scene before him. Below his feet was a dim, endless sea, and above his head was another dim, endless sea. Only two vague lines distinguished up from down, left from right, and Fang Zheng was positioned between the two. The moment he confirmed he was here, he appeared here.

If it were an ordinary Magician, they probably would have gone utterly mad the instant they entered. Every thought would receive countless responses, every question would get countless answers. It was as if someone had forcefully crammed a truckload of thoughts and knowledge into their brain. In the end, they would lose themselves in this infinite information and become part of the origin.

But Fang Zheng was different. As a Prophet Mage, he had long learned to carefully control himself and seek answers from countless fragments of future prophecies. Maybe for the Type Moon World’s Magicians, this was a brand new experience, but for Fang Zheng, it was merely like increasing the game difficulty from normal to hard.

More importantly...

[Would you like to install and restart?]

Of course, I would. Haven’t I wasted so much time just for this?

”Yes.”

Looking at the system prompts before him, Fang Zheng gave his affirmation.

Following that, the interface before his eyes suddenly vanished, and at the same time, a bright radiance emerged within Fang Zheng’s body.

”—————!!”

As the light appeared, the seas above and below Fang Zheng’s head suddenly began to roar and tremble; they connected instantaneously, completely engulfing Fang Zheng’s body within them.

His body was disappearing.

Fang Zheng could feel that as he was being devoured by the Vortex of Origin, his physical form was being dismantled and vanishing once again. However, he was not panicked in the slightest, for he had already learned the operating rules of the Vortex of Origin, and knew the current situation he was in. The disintegration of his body was not about melting away completely, but about filtering and upgrading once more.

A sound soul dwells within a sound body.

When Fang Zheng opened his eyes again, he was back at the Firelink Altar of the soul.

”Lord of Ash.”

The Fire Keeper stood before him, bowing respectfully.

”Everything is ready for the next step, isn’t it?”

”Yes.”

As she spoke, the Fire Keeper turned and reached out her hand. Behind her, several burning soul flames leapt in Fang Zheng’s eyes unceasingly.

Located at the center of the altar was Fang Zheng’s core—his Primordial Soul Fire, ignited through the absorption from the Blood Source World. That roaring blaze, akin to the radiance of the sun, brought warmth and the power of life.

On the far end of one side burned a vivid red flame on a pitch-black stone pillar; this was the emblem of the body in the Vampire world, the source of strength Fang Zheng had ignited.

On the opposite side was the deep blue flame that Fang Zheng had kindled in the Elf World. It symbolized knowledge and magic, the source of Fang Zheng’s wisdom and reason.

And regarding the final focal point...

Fang Zheng turned his head to look behind him, where a golden flame danced on the stone pillar. This was the last focal point he had ignited in the Type Moon world. Order, rules, the origin of all things.

And...

Fang Zheng lowered his head to look at the flickering shadow cast by the firelight.

”So far, it seems to be a success.”

Fang Zheng nodded, then turned his gaze back to the Fire Keeper. He could feel the Primordial Fire within his soul beginning to merge gradually. The Primordial Fire that symbolized life took control at the core, while the Flames of Strength and Knowledge obediently spread out under the guidance and regulation of the Fire of Order, flowing to their destined places. Meanwhile, the Fire of the Abyss burned in the shadows, accumulating power, always ready to be unleashed.

Three mass points formed a triangular guardianship and seal, protecting Fang Zheng’s Primordial Fire of Life while sealing his Fire of the Abyss.

”I can feel that your soul has grown much stronger, Lord of Ash,”

The Fire Keeper turned around and held out her hands.

”But... please remember, the flame... will eventually extinguish one day, no matter how far away that day may be... Should you misuse the power of the flame, then darkness... will descend upon us.”

”Of course, I will bear it in mind.”

Fang Zheng nodded, fully understanding the Fire Keeper’s meaning. In plain terms, Fang Zheng’s system used to be powered by the ”electricity” of the world, but now, the cables had been cut off, and he had to create his own reactor to generate electricity and become self-sufficient. Theoretically, the reactor’s energy could certainly sustain the consumption of the system, but if the fuel was not replenished and replaced in time, it could still ”shut down.”

As for Fang Zheng, he was not concerned; after all, to live, one must eat and drink to survive, and all this meant was that... well, he had a bigger appetite.

The core components and facilities of the ”reactor” were essentially complete, and it would be fine as long as routine maintenance was carried out. Next was... starting up and running.

”Huff...”

Standing in front of the Primordial Soul Fire, Fang Zheng took a deep breath and then slowly reached out his hands to cradle the dazzling flame, like a miniature sun.

Forthwith, the flame cascaded down Fang Zheng’s arms like liquid, enveloping him in the blink of an eye.

The scorching energy filled Fang Zheng’s body, and when he next opened his eyes, he felt as though everything about him was somewhat different. Although there seemed to be no difference on the outside, Fang Zheng could feel that from his soul to his body, he had undergone a qualitative transformation.

More importantly... the system that had restarted its upgrade was completely different from before.

Fang Zheng extended his right hand, and soon, following his motion, the Dimensional Codex reappeared in his palm.

But the current Dimensional Codex had undergone considerable changes from its previous incarnation. The former cover of the Codex featured a pitch-black night sky with several planets swirling around it. Now, its center was emblazoned with golden flame patterns, and where previously the cosmological diagram floated above, there were now three candle-like flamelets, forming a triangle that enveloped the core within.

And when Fang Zheng opened the Dimensional Codex again, he found that his personal information had also changed.
