Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Following He Meng, Yang Yu and his party entered the city of slimes, striding boldly towards the palace under the curious gazes of countless slimes.

The journey towards the palace was not as smooth as imagined; their actions quickly attracted the slime guards defending the city and the nobles ruling it.

After a brief explanation and slipping some Clover to the nobles, Yang Yu and his party were able to safely pass through the entire city and enter the passage to the next city.

The slime city was not simple; it had plantations dedicated to vegetable cultivation, an academy city for learning, and burial grounds specifically for handling slime corpses.

Although called burial grounds, it actually involved exiling soulless slimes to the surface through special pipelines, leaving humans to deal with them.

Dead slimes would turn into slime zombies, which were very weak. Ordinary slimes could easily kill them, but strangely, handling them usually posed a risk of reducing the lifespan of the normal slimes.

The Slime Kingdom once experienced a zombie crisis where slime zombies relying on instincts occupied the living space of the majority of slimes, voraciously devouring the normal slimes’ food supply, leaving the normal slimes unable to survive, and temporarily relocated to the surface. Only after adventurers cleaned up all the slime zombies did they move back underground.

Listening to He Meng recount the story, Yang Yu became increasingly interested in the origin of slimes.

Demons once said that slimes are the most primitive magic creatures, and the first plant to tame magic in this world is the Clover Alfalfa that He Meng loves to eat.

As far as Yang Yu knew, a creature’s taste for food depended on its dietary habits, which in turn depended on whether the food it consumed could provide sufficient nutrition and safety.

Humans find some food delicious, but to other creatures, it might have a different taste or even be poisonous.

In human society, phenomena of reversing cause and effect often appeared.

People frequently ask why cats are so cute; it’s time to change your thinking.

If cats are cute, the reversed cause and effect is that all uncute cats have been eliminated.

Slimes might be in such a situation; perhaps all slimes that found Clover Alfalfa unpalatable have died, leaving those that adapted to its magic infection as the only survivors.

What did the people in the past do to create this world?

However, if slimes are truly very primitive magic creatures, how would they have such a culture?

The more Yang Yu thought about it, the more questions he had, realizing he could only try to find answers after meeting the Slime King.

After passing through one city after another, it took Yang Yu and his party quite a long time before entering a magnificent and grand passage.

At the end of the passage were four Level 160 Battle Slimes guarding the entrance to the palace.

The palace was frequented by slime nobles in pretty carriages.

Upon seeing Yang Yu and his party, the four golden Battle Slimes transformed into human shapes, though they remained uncolored, resembling little golden figures.

They could also speak human language,

”Humans, this is a domain that you cannot enter lightly. Please return.”

Their voices were unwavering, as if nothing could sway them.

Even when Yang Yu waved Clover before them, they remained unfazed.

Despite prolonged efforts to persuade them, neither He Meng was able to convince the four Battle Slimes to let them pass.

At this moment, a luxurious carriage stopped, and out sprang a slime resembling He Meng except bigger and wearing a custom-made red cloak.

He Meng and the slime stared at each other from afar, engaging in an encrypted conversation using the slime language.

A while later, the slime in the red cloak jumped alongside the four golden slimes and seemed to say something using the slime language.

”Since the Prince has spoken thus, there’s no choice. As per your command, Your Highness.”

The four door guardian golden slimes respectfully bowed to the slime in the red cloak, reverted to their original plump slime forms, and cleared the path.

He Meng took two steps forward, transforming into a girl:

”You can proceed now. Make sure to follow him closely.”

The slime in the red cloak leaped down from the top of his carriage, transforming mid-air into a human teenager and gave He Meng a helpless smile:

”As the youngest sibling in our family, I just helped you solve a problem, and yet you are still reluctant to call me brother?”

He Meng sheepishly averted her gaze, muttering: ”So you also understand human language...”

”Of course. As the Crown Prince, mastery of various knowledge is essential. I have dabbled in human history and human linguistics.” The teenager was immensely proud, turning to Yang Yu for introduction: ”Greetings, humans. I am Helot, the first prince of the Slime Kingdom and the Crown Prince, He Meng’s brother.

I have heard about the matter from my sister.

Thank you for escorting my useless sister home. We thought she had long passed away.

You seem to have some important matters you wish to discuss with my parents, the King and Queen.

As a token of appreciation, I will introduce you to my parents.”

”You’ve been a great help. I am Yang Yu, a human adventurer, and these are my companions...”

Yang Yu smiled as he introduced his companions to the Slime Kingdom’s future king.

After exchanging pleasantries, Yang Yu and his party followed Helot into the Slime Kingdom’s palace.

He Meng followed beside Yang Yu, seemingly unsure how to handle her outstanding brother, remaining silent during the journey.

Helot also said nothing, instead continuing to lead Yang Yu and his party through the narrow road into the palace.

The slime palace bore resemblance to the ancient imperial palace Yang Yu knew, with flowers, grass, and various unique buildings. Without guidance, one could easily get lost in this vast palace and inadvertently violate taboos.

Without taking detours, Helot led Yang Yu and his party straight to the main hall to pay respects to the King and Queen of the Slime Kingdom.

On the luxurious throne, two blobs of blue gel-like creatures, one bigger than the other, sat solemnly. They were much larger than average slimes, bigger than an adult man.

Using the crowns on their heads and the clothes they wore, even without revealing their status panels, Yang Yu could discern which one was the King and which was the Queen.
