Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

As time went by, the attacks from the Secondary Demons toward Yang Yu and his team not only didn’t decrease but became more frequent.

The attributes of the Secondary Demons varied greatly, but even the weakest among them possessed the strength of Quasi-S Class adventurers.

The majority of the Secondary Demons had extremely bizarre appearances.

Some seemed like distorted, enlarged creatures; some were stitched beasts formed from several creatures; some resembled clay dolls, hastily made by a three-year-old.

Having different forms, the Secondary Demons’ methods of attack were even more varied and bizarre.

There wasn’t a single effective template to deal with these demons; everyone could only rely on their adaptability to handle the swarming demons.

”[Holy Barrier]”

”[Solidified Holy Light]”

The priests erected towering walls of Holy Light, intending to halt the demons’ advance.

Some Secondary Demons that touched these walls of Holy Light reacted as if they had touched searing flames, hastily withdrawing their hands.

However, some Secondary Demons were completely unafraid of the Holy Light. They raised their hands, hammering punch after punch upon the priests’ woven walls.

Regardless of the golden light burning their hands, those fearless Secondary Demons repeatedly swung their heavy fists, pounding against the shield, breaching the priests’ Holy Light defenses.

Members of the expeditionary team supported the priests, but the Secondary Demons moved too swiftly, grabbing several priests in their grasp, ready to devour them.

Iyas drew her bowstring, allowing a radiant Light Arrow to fly from her hands, aimed at the Secondary Demons holding the priests.

The brilliant Light Arrow split mid-air, exploding the arms of two Secondary Demons.

The priests grasped by the two Secondary Demons fell to the ground, scrambling away desperately.

Yet, not every priest was fortunate enough to be saved.

One Secondary Demon opened its gaping maw and threw an unresponsive priest into it, chewing voraciously.

Not only priests, but expeditionary team members also fighting Secondary Demons, if careless, could be seized and sent straight into the demons’ mouths, to be viciously bitten and swallowed.

Seeing their comrades, with whom they shared the days and nights, consumed by demons, some shouted in rage and charged at the Secondary Demons, hoping to rescue their partners.

But not everyone had the strength to resist Secondary Demons; expeditionary members rushing over were easily swatted away by the demons.

Not far off, Yang Yu lent a hand, catching the member who had been knocked away.

The situation was urgent; losing even one person added more burden on the expeditionary’s shoulders.

Those who could be saved should naturally be saved.

Ensuring no disruption to the formation, Yang Yu launched ferocious attacks against the Secondary Demons that had consumed humans.

However, even when toppling a Secondary Demon and slicing open its belly, Yang Yu seldom rescued any survivors.

Those consumed by the Secondary Demons endured continual damage in their stomachs, being completely corroded by the demons until...

A Secondary Demon, which had devoured an expeditionary member, inflated its cheeks and spat out the consumed member.

The Secondary Demon wasn’t returning Yang Yu’s comrades out of goodwill.

The expelled expeditionary member squirmed to his feet, his complexion a ghastly blue, eyes vacant and body stiffened, as he lunged at nearby people, mouth agape.

The Secondary Demons had turned those they devoured into zombies!

Luckily, Holy Light had an attack bonus against Undead Race monsters.

The priests quickly organized to purify the zombies, preventing them from further exacerbating the already tense battlefield.

Apart from demons, black spiritual bodies emerged from various locations throughout the city, joining the battle stealthily.

Those black spiritual bodies sometimes launched surprise attacks, sometimes grabbing onto the adventurers’ legs, disrupting with all their might.

The personnel engaged in [Corpse Collection Coffin] sought to annihilate these ghosts swiftly, but when faced with danger, the ghosts immediately sought shelter behind the Secondary Demons.

Dealing with the black spiritual bodies necessitated handling the Secondary Demons first, which was quite troublesome.

Scanning the surroundings, Yang Yu had yet to spot any disciples from the Curse Sect on the battlefield.

They might be participating in a demon summoning ritual or planning to act once the expeditionary team was exhausted.

Looking skyward, Yang Yu saw that Bai Jin’s Magician unit wasn’t faring any better.

Plenty of flying Secondary Demons performed vile and rapid attacks time and again.

The Mage unit was overwhelmed and couldn’t spare the effort to support Yang Yu’s team.

Sometimes, even when aware that the enemy was stalling for time, there was nothing they could do about it.

Immediately deciding, Yang Yu ordered the troops to stop advancing toward the cathedral and concentrate on the enemies at hand.

Unless the Secondary Demons were dealt with, they would be unable to advance even an inch.

The troops quickly responded to Yang Yu, bursting forth with great momentum, engaging in a deadly struggle with the Secondary Demons.

As time continued, Yang Yu fully activated the effects of [Blazing Blood] and [Fierce Battle Spirit]. Under the enhancement of the passive [Magic Resonance], Yang Yu’s current strength rivaled that of a few hidden masters.

The skills and regular attacks were executed seamlessly; navigating through every danger zone, Yang Yu used his [Dark Breaking Blade] to clear all enemies before him with all his might.

After the priests’ defenses collapsed, Lingshan from [Island Drifting] quickly summoned a massive water column, joining Luo Luosi to protect countless people.

Lang Yi and Luo Hasta seized the opportunity to practice the skills they learned from skill scrolls.

Lang Yi summoned a water stream avatar, directing it to a Secondary Demon with his will, using a Water Blade to block a demon’s claw.

Luo Hasta, like a squid, released an inky black smoke, temporarily blinding the opponent, reducing their defenses and speed.

Jiao Xi used Holy Light skills to attack that Secondary Demon, causing significant damage.

The coordination of [Island Drifting] was commendable; with teams like [Island Drifting] in place, Yang Yu’s line of defense did not collapse.

Time once again trickled by slowly, and Yang Yu observed the sudden decrease in supporting Secondary Demons.

These Secondary Demons were remarkably similar to the black creatures Yang Yu encountered in the Elf Forest, likely summoned by sacrificing believers as offerings.

The reduction in Secondary Demons’ numbers meant the Curse Sect had fewer people to sacrifice.

Not everyone should be sacrificed, though...

Some powerful individuals would only sacrifice themselves if they could not overcome their enemy.

Which means...

The true test might just be beginning.

As Yang Yu was thinking this, several humble bishops and archbishops of the Curse Sect surrounded Yang Yu’s team.
