Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

The number of Curse Sect bishops and Secondary Demons around was dwindling, and Yang Yu and his team were moving faster toward the Curse Sect Church.

All of this was witnessed by the Pope of the Curse Sect, Gasque Loren.

”Still couldn’t stop them?”

Gasque Loren murmured to himself, his once spirited face filled with worry.

The chants of the believers reciting spells continuously reached his ears, and Gasque Loren looked at the black pool before him. The light from the Goddess Sect Saintess had completely seeped into the black pool.

The surface of the still black water was like a mirror, with several shadows swimming beneath, waiting for the gate to open.

Yang Yu and the expeditionary team he led were completely beyond Gasque Loren’s expectations.

When Modesty died, Gasque Loren already had a bad premonition.

And that premonition seemed about to come true.

Even though they had come this far, even though they were just one step away...

If only he had eradicated Yang Yu at all costs back then, would the outcome have been better...

No.

Gasque Loren concluded that if he had acted recklessly then, perhaps the Goddess Sect would have discovered them already.

Ever since the hunt for the Holy Maiden began, there was no turning back.

Now, there was no point in talking about regrets.

If there were regrets to be had, they should be for earlier mistakes.

”Mentegro, perhaps I should have told you our true ideals long ago.

You already know that everything the Demon has done is deceit, and Demons are not something to be completely trusted.

Our association with Demons was also out of sheer necessity.

If not, you pretended to believe in the Demon while I failed to see through your true intentions, you wouldn’t have chosen to steal the Abyss Gate and have your daughter destroy it. Our plan could have begun long ago.

The fault lies with me, for genuinely believing that your obsession with your wife led you to be seduced by the Demon, and thus, I thought you had no right to witness the new world’s arrival with us.

The lamp in my hand failed to illuminate your path.”

Looking at the chandelier in his hand, Gasque Loren lamented bitterly.

Those staying in the church to chant were true Curse Sect believers; all those sent out were Demon followers.

The Demon’s followers, supposed to fall in battle with the goddess, were being wasted in such a place.

Honestly, even though the true Curse Sect followers here were ready to sacrifice at any moment, Gasque Loren didn’t want any more sacrifices.

Moreover, with every person lost, the ceremony would delay a bit more.

Is there really nothing that can stop the expeditionary team?

Suddenly, at the bottom of the black pool, pairs of eyes lit up.

A deep voice sounded beside Gasque Loren’s ear, it was the whisper of the Demon.

”Oh my, it seems there are some issues with your summoning ritual to bring us forth.”

”Lord Baal... As you can see, some formidable pests have assaulted our ritual, and the people we dispatched are dying one by one at their hands. If this continues, the ritual may fail.”

”Hmm. I did sense a great number of deaths in this city, and the Strength we dispersed is slowly returning.”

”Lord Baal, what should we do next? We can’t dispatch more people to delay them, and even if we did, they would be utterly annihilated before the ritual completes.”

”I know. I have a piece of good news and a piece of bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”

Gasque Loren hesitated for a moment and then said, ”Let’s hear the good news... first.”

”The good news is that you only need a bit more time to open the gate to summon us.”

”And the bad news is?”

”Because your ritual isn’t complete, we cannot all come through.

Of the Demon Army I lead, only three can come out from the gate.

You know, some of our Demons require guidance, as their lust for play exceeds their sense of duty.

Beelzebub is such a being.

Using the Catastrophe Witch, he was summoned once and left a gate in the outside world to easily return.

Since it’s his gate, he demands that everything centers around him and frequently engages in dialogue with you, leading you astray.

We initially intended to use the gate he left to expand the exit with one burst of Magic Power to descend into this world.

Unfortunately, the gate was stolen and ultimately destroyed.

You can only use other methods to contact us to descend into this world.”

”Can only three Demons descend?” Gasque Loren furrowed his brows.

”I’ll send my most reliable confidants; they won’t indulge in play like Beelzebub.

Three Demons are enough for the current situation.

No, two should suffice.

My suggestion is to dispatch two of my confidants worldwide to create chaos, thereby buying you and us more time.

Leaving one Demon to deal with them will be sufficient.

Don’t worry that one Demon’s Strength won’t be enough.

Even if only three Demons can descend, we can reinforce more Strength through the exit.

I can sense the intruders’ capability outside.

If you cannot repel these intruders with the Strength we provide, it only means your skill is too low.

Even with such deficiencies, with my confidant’s help, you will undoubtedly annihilate them entirely.”

Gasque Loren let out a sigh and asked:

”So... Lord Baal, what is the price of summoning those three Demons?

I have somewhat perceived it...

If this summoning proceeds, who knows how long it will take to reopen the gate.

I’ve waited a long time and don’t want to wait any longer.”

Baal chuckled, ”No rush!

Merely a month.

You cannot imagine; we’ve waited thousands upon thousands of years.

I cannot forget the look of utter disappointment from our creator.

They sealed us into this world.

Initially, I puzzled over our creator’s actions.

But later, I realized, and eventually worked out, what it’s all about.

Among us, some Demons don’t follow our creator’s will.

Their reckless behavior led to the repetitive failure of Tasks.

Ultimately causing our creator’s utter disappointment in us.

Time flies by, and the world has changed beyond recognition.

Our creator no longer exists in this world; repentance is in vain now.

The only thing we can do now is to complete our mission and utterly defeat the false goddess.

In preparation for that day, I’ve reformed my Demon Army, learned to think, and grown more cunning.

This time, we will undoubtedly dethrone the goddess.”
