Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

”This guy, isn’t he just too strong?”

A stocky middle-aged Beastman with three scars on his face watched helplessly as his companions were knocked down one by one, gritting his teeth unwillingly.

Up till now, he still didn’t know how that man managed to accurately find every Beastman from within the bushes.

But he had to take action; this was the battlefield, and not fighting meant death.

Ayoy admitted that the man was strong, but with just him and his giant wolf for movement, it was only two of them.

If he could lead them into a trap, using numbers to compensate for the disparity in strength, there was definitely still a chance to defeat him.

Ayoy rhythmically tapped on the tree trunk, sending signals to organize the team to unite against the enemy.

But the man weaving through the trees was already moving so fast that they couldn’t catch his traces.

In the span of a few breaths, the Beastmen who tried to join forces were scattered by that man.

Any Beastman attempting to approach Ayoy fell into pools of blood.

Ayoy couldn’t see clearly what was happening, but he knew that the man hadn’t used any Skill to defeat them.

With no one left to fight around, the man finally aimed his Sword Blade at Ayoy.

A cold light flashed as the sharp sword blade thrust forward. Ayoy drew his sword to engage, only to find the man cleverly sidestepped Ayoy’s blade and thrust the sharp sword into his shoulder, pinning him to a nearby tree.

The difference in their strength wasn’t even on the same Level, like clouds and mud.

Having painstakingly learned the commander’s tactics from others, hoping to accomplish something, only to be defeated so quickly made Ayoy’s heart brim with emotions.

If the commander hadn’t abandoned them back then, but instead led them on the Task at Qinghe Volcano, they might have learned more things.

If the commander were here...

He would surely find a strategy to deal with this man.

Is this the end?

Ayoy closed his eyes, accepting this outcome gracefully.

Even though surrender was still an option, he just didn’t want to surrender...

Everything since he joined the army flashed before him vividly.

The decisiveness of Humans slaying Beastmen left him bitterly disappointed.

He was also someone who had seen Humans and Beastmen coexist peacefully.

Originally, he had thought Humans were no different from them, but Humans let him down time and again...

With the two races at each other’s throats, surrendering was futile.

Rather than surrendering, he preferred to die honorably as a warrior.

However, contrary to his expectations, the young man before Ayoy did not immediately pull out the sword for a fatal strike.

A very familiar scent wafted slowly through the air, one he could never forget, the scent only that revered commander had.

His commander should have become the Hero of this war, yet he completely vanished without a trace.

Rumors in the country claimed he let the assassin go, ultimately leading to the tragedy.

Ayoy would never believe his commander would do such a thing. Though their time together wasn’t long, he knew the commander’s character extremely well.

Ayoy had also inquired about the later events. If the commander intended to sabotage the King of Wansheng Country, why bother finding a cure?

Thinking that if he entered the Luo Ze Empire, he might see his commander and understand his thoughts, that’s why Ayoy was here.

He wasn’t the only one with this thought.

A previously unknown soldier emerged the winter before last, saving the winter troops from danger; in spring and summer, he imparted unique combat strategies, reclaimed Qinghe Volcano; in autumn, he systematically pushed humans back to the borders; last winter, he showcased overwhelming strength, sealing the deal decisively and quickly becoming a General...

The majority of Wansheng Country’s people and soldiers had, from one victory report after another, regarded Yang Yu as the true Hero.

They did not believe such a Hero would let them down.

They wanted to know the truth, where the Hero who once gave them hope had gone.

Slowly opening his eyes, Ayoy looked at the spirited young man before him, speaking with uncertainty:

”Potato Thorn, commander....”

The young man wiped the blood from the drawn sword, sheathed it, and without denying his identity, greeted:

”Ayoy, long time no see...”

Hearing this voice, Ayoy pinched his face bitterly, straining to control his emotions, but a tear still trickled down his cheek:

”How could it end up like this...

Commander, could it be true that you are Human and abandoned us for the Luo Ze Empire’s side?

...If that’s true, what have all your efforts been for?

I’ve heard quite a bit about you.

I truly can’t imagine that you, who wholeheartedly devoted yourself to the Beastmen, now stand against us.”

Yang Yu took a few Recovery Potions out of the System and tossed them to Ayoy, replying:

”Ayoy, I am indeed Human.

You can tell this to others and convey my words...

Regardless of whether I am Human.

From start to finish, my only goal has been to end this war.

This war should have ended long ago. You shouldn’t be here, shouldn’t cross borders, turning from victims to aggressors, fighting until one side is completely annihilated.

Very soon you’ll know my true intentions, realizing how foolish this war is.

Before understanding my true thoughts, please lead your troops away from here.

I left enough breath in the Beastmen I attacked.

This time, I’ll spare you; next time we meet, if you strike at us...

It won’t be as merciful as this time.

Likewise, as long as the Beastman Army does not strike at the Human Army,

I will ensure my army never strikes at you.”

Yang Yu’s words carried no coldness, instead revealed a unique gentle warmth. He turned and left.

”Wait, commander... even if I am dull, please tell me.

Commander, what exactly should I do to reach the peaceful end you speak of...

Commander, I absolutely obey your orders.”

Ayoy reached out to Yang Yu, hurriedly, stumbling while trying to catch up to him.

Yang Yu turned back and said, ”I am not your commander now.

If you want to help me, convey what’s in your heart to others.”

After speaking, Yang Yu leaped onto a branch and whistled, Lotcar came over to assist.

They left the forest, returning to the recruit squad.

Afterwards, Yang Yu reported to the leading Grand General that he temporarily repelled the Beastman ambush unit but couldn’t stop the Beastmen from calling for reinforcements.

Yang Yu advised that they must seize this rare opportunity and swiftly advance to the battlefield.

The leading Grand General dared not delay at all, immediately ordered the troops to advance rapidly.

Left in the jungle, Ayoy, looking in the direction Yang Yu departed, seemed to make a firm resolution, tightly gripping the potion bottle in his hand.
