Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 329: Chapter 329: No Way, No Way

Lotcar strode swiftly, completing a journey in just over a day that was originally expected to take two days, allowing Yang Yu and his group to safely arrive at the first city with a Sunrise Chamber of Commerce auction house—Urasa.

On the road, Iyas and Yang Yu had little interaction, and their relationship visibly deteriorated at a rapid pace, quickly becoming rigid.

Noticing the increasingly awkward atmosphere, Bai Jin tried to reconcile the two, but despite numerous attempts, her efforts were in vain.

Bai Jin had been present during the conflict between Iyas and Yang Yu and understood a bit of the background; the main issue lay with Iyas.

Bai Jin had also tried to make Iyas realize her mistakes and apologize to Yang Yu, but the incident with her brother had completely consumed her reason, preventing her from thinking rationally.

As it turned out, even Yang Yu couldn’t handle it, and Bai Jin’s interventions were merely a waste of words.

Sitting in the carriage, Bai Jin became increasingly silent amid the tense atmosphere, holding He Meng tightly and praying silently that everything would go smoothly. She hoped that after rescuing her brother, Iyas would regain her senses and not be so impulsive in the future.

As they passed a checkpoint, the sky began to darken with black clouds that obscured the once clear sky.

In the summer, the warm, moist monsoon winds collect moisture from the sea, bringing frequent rainfall to Urasa.

Sometimes, large raindrops would pour down, forcefully striking the gravel, creating a ’bam’ sound, while at other times, small droplets continued incessantly for days, bringing a refreshing coolness to the hot summer days.

Seasoned weather observers could easily predict the kind of rain that was imminent just by looking at the clouds hovering over the city.

Despite the gloomy skies, the street vendors in Urasa were still devotedly selling their wares.

Closing up shop just before the rain was an utterly common occurrence for them.

Pedestrians on the road were unfazed as well, facing the chilly wind whipping up dust, continuing their leisurely strolls and chats as they were accustomed to such weather.

Yang Yu and his group had a very clear objective from the start.

They traversed the bustling streets and made their way towards the only auction house in Urasa.

After settling Lotcar, Yang Yu planned to head to the auction house alone to gather intelligence, but Iyas expressed her desire to accompany him.

Yang Yu sternly declined Iyas’s request. Aside from being auctioned there herself, she had never truly seen the auction house, and her presence might reveal their motives.

Iyas wanted to say more, but given the awkwardness between them, she merely managed a ”Please, be careful” before storming back to the inn in a huff.

Walking confidently into the auction house, Yang Yu approached the receptionist and inquired cautiously,

”Excuse me, I’d like to know where the hall for selling slaves is located?”

The receptionist eyed Yang Yu, whose clothes made him look like a poor boy who had wandered in from nowhere.

Slaves were a luxury enjoyed by nobles and wealthy merchants, and he didn’t believe such a poor boy could afford a slave, so naturally, he was disinclined to tell Yang Yu anything about the slave auction.

He figured someone like Yang Yu was probably unable to find a girlfriend and wanted to buy a slave to fill that role, a single man looking to ’free up his hands.’

The slave trade was no place for such people.

Thus, the receptionist dealt perfunctorily with Yang Yu, telling him that they did not deal in the slave trade here, and with an expression that ushered him away, told Yang Yu to get as far away as possible.

Yang Yu pondered for a moment, then pulled out a bottle of pale golden liquid from his System and placed it on the counter.

Despite deciding to be sparing with his use, in the end, he had no choice but to bring it out.

If possible, Yang Yu also didn’t want to resort to using the limited Revive Elixir he had.

But as someone with an unclear origin and absolutely no background, it was impossible for him to simply pass through the auction house’s scrutiny and understand the behind-the-scenes slave trade.

Yang Yu’s thinking was crystal clear; no matter how spick and span the disguise, an unknown origin was still unknown, and no one would assume he was an upper-class gentleman just by looking at his clothes.

Once even the slightest slip-up occurred, it would lead to endless suspicion.

The best strategy was to do the opposite.

Assuming an ordinary identity, he would present an item of incalculable value and occasionally hint at his own status. That way, if any slip-ups occurred, others would take them as deliberate to disguise his true identity.

Having drawn prizes so many times, Yang Yu already had countless ”treasures” at his disposal, but to blow these treasures up to mythic proportions required time.

Yang Yu wasn’t sure if the auction house receptionist in front of him would have the patience to listen to his blather and sweet-talk.

To make the receptionist in front of him take him seriously and to obtain the information he desired, he still had to bring out something that even the receptionist could recognize and be impressed with at first glance.

While there was the option of bringing out Rare Equipment, presenting such items at this location would likely see him treated as a poor adventurer trying to auction off his weapons and ignored even more.

After much consideration, the most suitable item Yang Yu could think of was the Revive Elixir.

To sell this item at an unprecedented price, the Silver Orchid Commerce had put in a great deal of effort promoting it, not only in the Tren Republic but assuredly in other regions as well.

In the commercially prosperous Serti, there must also be no shortage of Legendary tales associated with this potion.

Others could immediately grasp the item’s value, saving Yang Yu the trouble of explaining it.

Everything was left unsaid.

True to his expectations, as soon as the bottle of pale golden liquid was displayed, the receptionist’s expression changed drastically, and his heart skipped a beat—damn, could it really be that thing?

The receptionist’s demeanor shifted from his initial attitude and he began to scrutinize the pale golden liquid in the bottle with earnest care.

”Recently, my godfather’s estate has had some financial setbacks, and he asked me to convert this into cash, and then, to hire a few slaves.

I’m doing this for the first time, so I don’t know anything, which is why I hope to get information from you.”

Yang Yu said with a smile as he pushed the Revive Elixir towards the receptionist.

”You know how it is, nowadays the young people are unwilling to stay and work on the estates, all heading to the big cities; hardly anyone is willing to work on an estate.

The wages to hire one person, when calculated, are not as cost-effective as buying a slave.

You should know the value of this item, and if you’re unclear, please bother your Appraiser to take a look at it; he should know its true worth.”

The receptionist was half-believing and half-doubtful of Yang Yu’s words, carefully picked up the bottle of pale golden liquid, and headed into a partition to have the auction house’s appraiser give it a valuation.
