Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 313: Chapter 313 Do We Have a Choice?

Leaving the Central Hall, Yang Yu led his team towards the checkpoint, while the grand conference at the Library was in full swing, and there were few people on the road.

Upon confirming that no one was around, Iyas hastened to Yang Yu’s side, asking with some disbelief,

”Yang Yu, did you just say... that man is a Hero?”

Originally, Iyas thought Yang Yu was just joking, but Barona’s reaction had slapped her in the face, making it quite clear that what Yang Yu said was most likely true.

Yang Yu shrugged his shoulders, ”He seems to know nothing about many things in the outside world, yet he knows about the Hero.”

”Who wouldn’t know such a famous legend? That’s the great figure who saved the world.

Is that guy really a Hero? Is someone like that really a Hero?”

Iyas frowned deeply, her surprise not that a Hero appeared in this world, but that such an unreasonable person could also be a Hero.

Seemingly reminded of something, Bai Jin also asked, ”When we were captured and interrogated, you said that the Demon King of the Demon Clan was about to descend upon this world. At that time, I thought you were just trying to get us to escape quickly and were bluffing... Now it doesn’t seem that way at all. What else do you know that you can’t share with us?”

”It’s not that I can’t, since you’ve asked, I’ll explain properly.”

At this point, Yang Yu did not intend to hide anything and spoke openly,

”First, everything I said is absolutely true; that guy is indeed a Hero, and the legendary Demon King will also descend upon this world in the not-too-distant future.

You remember that I once told you that all the abilities I possess were learned in a certain Underground Maze.

When interrogated, what I said was half true; I had indeed seen the future. However, it wasn’t in the Underground Maze we previously ventured into, but in the one where I gained my strength.

The Demon King will eventually sweep across the entire continent, and no one will be able to stay out of it.

The reason why I set out on this journey, seeking to become stronger, is to be able to face the changes in the world with composure when the Demon King descends.”

Having said this, Yang Yu stopped walking and faced Bai Jin and Iyas who were following behind him,

”Now that you know the truth of the matter, what do you plan to do? Stay in the safe bounds of the All Things Library, or continue to adventure with me and become stronger?

The All Things Library is teeming with masters and is the most solid fortress of the Human race, staying there, at the very least, can guarantee the safety of your lives when the Demon King descends.

If you come with me, however, you don’t know what dangers you might encounter; the events in Fairyland were just child’s play, you must be prepared.”

Iyas sighed and crossed her arms, ”You say that, but realistically, do we have any choice? I have made a promise with you before; as long as you could safely rescue Hake, I would be willing to work for you, and I always keep my word. At this point, you may as well stop, trying to play the good guy here.”

Without any hesitation, Bai Jin spoke up, ”As long as you don’t abandon me, I am willing to stay by your side. If you hadn’t reached out to help me initially, I wouldn’t be able now to enjoy adventuring with you... I will become stronger, strong enough that even if facing the Demon King, I’ll have the strength to fight. That way, no matter what danger I encounter, I can turn peril into safety.”

”Defeating the Demon King isn’t my duty,” said Yang Yu with a smile on his face. ”However, should the Hero fail, that’s a different story. In any case, let’s aim for at least reaching a level where we can defeat the Demon King.”

With a half-joking tone, Yang Yu concluded the topic and continued on his way to the checkpoint.

After explaining the situation and paying a certain deposit, Yang Yu and his team smoothly passed through the checkpoint and arrived in the city area of the All Things Library.

They had only walked a few steps before Yang Yu and his companions came upon Ying Luo and Lotcar, who had been waiting for some time.

Last night, Lotcar had laid bare his situation to Ying Luo, including his identity, origins, and the reason for appearing in the forest where they had once met.

At first, when Ying Luo heard Lotcar speak, she was somewhat confused, thinking she had heard wrong or had seen an illusion.

But after seeing the serious expression on Lotcar’s face, Ying Luo knew she was not dreaming.

So, Ying Luo sat down quietly to listen to Lotcar recount his story.

”Persecuted by humans, forced to take the form of a beast, and leaving home out of necessity, our meeting was indeed incredible. The world truly holds such magical races.”

After hearing Lotcar’s story, Ying Luo felt indignant. She despised the actions of Lotcar’s cousin, unable to believe someone would persecute a fellow clan member for the position of Clan Leader.

Lotcar’s expression was one of firm determination. For many years, he had been constantly preoccupied with the affairs of his tribe, wanting to catch that guy and demand a clear explanation.

”If that guy becomes the Clan Leader, I fear he might indeed commit some outrageous acts.

The Old Clan Chief’s condition is now unknown. He had decided to abdicate in three years, but with this turn of events, even if he doesn’t want to retire, that guy will surely find ways to force the issue.

We absolutely cannot let him succeed. If he steals the position of Clan Leader, I will take it back.”

Having made up his mind to leave, Ying Luo knew that no matter how much she pleaded, it would be useless.

”Can’t I come with you?”

”This is my revenge. My tribe is in Wansheng Country, where they are somewhat unfriendly towards humans. You possess no strength; you would only be a burden.”

Without leaving any room for debate, Lotcar made his stance clear — Ying Luo would be a burden. Only in this way would she refrain from following him out of concern, and avoid being drawn into the whirlpool of his vengeance.

Naturally, Ying Luo was aware of the risks of accompanying Lotcar, yet she still wished she could help and stay by his side.

But Ying Luo also knew that Lotcar would never allow her to take such a risk.

Compared to Yang Yu and the others, she truly seemed quite ordinary.

If only I had the intelligence, courage, and strength of someone like Yang Yu, perhaps Lotcar would have shared everything with me sooner and sought my help.

Clenching her hand in frustration, Ying Luo tried to remain calm, returning to her usual composure as much as possible, not wanting to worry Lotcar,

”You’re right. This is your revenge, and you will surely face many dangers along the way. You’ll probably not have the leisure to protect me. I understand. I’ll stay behind and not follow you. I’ll take good care of myself, and please, you also take care of yourself. If there is a chance, we’ll meet again.”

With a forced smile, Ying Luo accepted the reality that Lotcar was leaving. She spent the entire night adjusting her emotions and escorted Lotcar to the city area.

As Yang Yu drew closer into view, Ying Luo felt an indescribable sadness in her heart.

She knew she had to let go. Lotcar had his own affairs to attend to, and she could no longer depend on him like a child. She couldn’t, as before, snuggle into his warm fur and frolic to her heart’s content.

Biting her lip, Ying Luo extended her hand, and an extremely complex Magic Array congealed in her palm.
